Title: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1967 F1 - Keimola - Aug 19
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on August 17, 2018, 11:12:06 PM +0100
Season 33 Graduates Cup – Round 8 – Keimola

UKGPL has used this track a few times, but not with the 1967 F1 cars. The track was used in the 1960s for Formula 2 races but it never hosted a Formula 1 race. Originally opened in 1966 the track was abandoned in 1978. The pit exit is a bit unusual in that it isn't near the start line.

Both Works & Privateers drivers will participate on the same grid. All drivers have the same tokens allocations. We will, however, run two championships, & separate points will be scored for each. A Privateer may finish the actual race 5th, but still win the Privateers race. The race will be moderated as a combined grid. Privateers are asked not to hold up a Works driver whilst being lapped, but you may race fairly for track position.

The important difference is that Privateers are permitted one reset with a compulsory Stop & Go (taken within two laps). Although the race setting is “Intermediate” Works drivers are not allowed to take a reset.

Server = UKGPL4
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 19-08-2018
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Link (http://personal.inet.fi/private/kaskia/keimola/)
Race length = 37 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the Championship Standings Page  (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=637&theme=6)

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works / Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Check all cabels first to have good connection!!! Outside and inside the PC, remove all dust...

Do you make restore points? to backup Windows?

Try to start in save mode by pushing F8 button and set it back to "last working version"

Do you make regular system backups? I schedule them every monday 12:05...
I make a "system snapshot" so I can restore my full system if the HDD is broken.
You are asked to make a rescue CD when you set it, so you can start the PC and restore the system.

Overheard in the Ferrari paddock, pre-race:

Quote
"Know what would be funny?"

"No, what?"

"If we replaced one of the V-12 race cars with a Fiero."

"Wouldn't they notice the power difference?"

"Nitrous. We've got that kit from E-Bay we used on the LaFerrari to keep up with the P1 and 918."

"Yeah, and if we set it for fullshot allatime they won't notice the boost...but the biggest bottle we've got won't last more than *checks notes* half-race".

"Even funnier. One of these asshole arrive-and-drive-never-even-say-hi-the-mechanics rich pricks is getting disappointed."

"Ha. Let's do it."

And guess which car I picked? :P

Grats Tris, Fulvio, Clive. Had some fun 'til the bottle was gone. Hope I stayed out of the way for the rest. Two cars that caught me on pit straight, 5 or 6 laps to go, you caught me by surprise, sorry I didn't move sooner.

Well, that was a seriously intense race!!!
I got a good start and found myself in 3rd place behind Tris and Fulvio ...and that is how it stayed for the next 38 laps  :-\. That makes it sound like a boring race, but it was anything but.

I was stuck to the rear end of Fulvio's Ferrari and only managed to make 3 or 4 attempts to pass in the whole race because we were so evenly matched. Thanks to the backmarkers who allowed us through as our battle continued as this track is twisty in places and it is not easy to get off the racing line.

Tris was favourite to win with his pace in the Brabham, but Fulvio and myself probably helped him by battling between ourselves for lap after lap.
 Thanks to Fulvio for a great race  ;D

Not easy to race here with the Honda, but I'm satisfied with the final result.
If I am not mistaken, I should have enough points to win the Privateers championship.
That's a good thing because I will miss the next race and probably the last one too !

The "Hondola" was nice to drive on the long staight and had very good brakes, but on the twisty parts it wasn't funny.

All going well until about the half way point. The Repco engine gave me enough drive up the big straight to stay ahead of Andreas for several laps. I lost concentration checking where Tristan was on Prib & ran wide. After that I had several other off track moments. Apology to Phil on the rejoin near the end. I thought there would be enough space to take the last corner on the inside. The replay shows a decent gap between the cars but there appeared to be a reaction where the GPL crash boxes touched. Glad to see that you straightened up.

I think you are right David.  Even if Billy wins the last two rounds and you don't race he still has to drop his 2 lowest scores (0 and 28). So subject to moderation that makes you champion.
Congratulations  :clap:

Same for me.  Trying to move off line to let someone lap me was a disaster.  I'll just have to stick to my racing line in future until I can pull over without compromising myself too much. That is what it says in the rules but I can't help myself, I find it very uncomfortable getting in the way of lapping drivers.

No problem Bill. I noticed you had gone off trying to let Tristan by. I didn't want to take advantage. There is no satisfaction in overtaking if it isn't in a fair fight.

Really enjoyed that one, Qualified in 6th about where I expected looking at the opposition.

Was gifted 4th at the start when Cookie put 2 wheels on the grass and Dean hesitated. I didn't need anymore of an invitation and dived past on the inside down to Etalakaare persued by Arf. Arf got the inside line so tracked him around the outside and was able to outbrake him down into Varikkokaarre. A lap or so later I could see Cookie had also jumped Arf and was making his desire to take his spot back very obvious He got me with a copybook pass into Varikkokaarre on lap 4 and then promptly spun at VW-Mutka to gift me the place back.

He didn't lose any spots though and was back on my tail within the lap and tried the same move again on Lap 5. Unfortunately we tangled on the exit. I've checked the replay and I'm happy I didn't stray onto his line but his speed caused him to drift across so for me it was a racing incident. We both spun, but I was able to recover and found myself on the inside of Arf at VW-Mutka and was able to maintain my position. Shortly afterwards Dean appeared in my mirrors and we had a battle similar to Solitude where he was obviously faster but I was able to defend. Problem was both our lap times were suffering and the Clive/Fran battle was getting away from us so I let him through past the pits on Lap 17 as he was obviously faster than me and I figured he might drag us both up to the battle ahead. Unfortunately he blew it into Etalakaare a few laps later and I was back into 4th. Even in clear air I couldn't make much headway into Clive or Fran. I did close the gap when Clive had a small spin putting me within a few 100yds but that was as close as I got.

Cookie disappeared, Dean had engine problems and I ended up quite lonely for the latter part of the race. Then a bit of excitement as I cross the SF line with 2 to go, My engine began to splutter and a quick check showed 0.5g left. WTF! I had done several full race runs and was sure I had enough fuel.. :(

So dropped into the pits for a splash and dash. Still coming back out in 4th where I remained until the flag.

A tough track with not much time apart from the main straight to rest. Another new one for me reminded me a lot of Surfers Paradise, seemed to have a similar track surface (Slippery).

Congrats to Tris, Fran and Clive for the podium. Commiserations to the retirees.

It was a blast as always.

Thanks guys.

TTFN
John.
