Title: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Aintree - Sep 11

Season 33 1966 F1 - Round 9– Aintree
The 9th race in the 1966 F1 series finds us in the outskirts of Liverpool in the north of England. Aintree is undoubtedly famous for the iconic Grand National horse race but for several years it reverberated to the sound of horses of a different kind. The circuit was built in 1954 and hosted the Formula One British Grand Prix five times, in 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1962. Stirling Moss, driving a Mercedes, won his first British Grand Prix at Aintree in 1955.  It was the first time a British driver had won his home Grand Prix. The first British driver / British car victory in a British Grand Prix was also at Aintree in 1957, when Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks shared a Vanwall. Quite why Grand Prix racing stopped at Aintree is unclear.  The close proximity of housing may have been a factor but the circuit would no doubt have needed to improve safety standards.  The original track can still be seen, and driven on, today. The lack of any run-off areas in the section to the west of the Melling Road all too apparent. The section to the east of the Melling Road which is wide open and relatively safe is still in regular use for motorcycle racing.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the 1966 F1 will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice, 2 litre or 3 litre, for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=640&theme=6). Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement.  See below.

Looks like I'm missing this one, as well.  :(

The good news is that I have a couple of lines on a place to stay, at least for short term. Nothing awesome, but a roof is a good thing. And I'm going to keep the championship lead going into the final round (pending a mod report  ::)).

GL those who can take part, and watch out for the chicane!   :)

Sorry mate I tried to make sure I didn't roll back onto the racing line but I do appreciate trying to avoid a spinning car is very distracting. Sorry it ruined your race.

Very difficult race for me.I have substituded my old ACTlab gear box broken during the race at Syracuse with the thrusmaster.
In the test of the mornig all is ok but online all the gear are scaled by one in position and without reverse gear ???
Big confusion during the gear change. In the test i was able to go under 1,50 but in the race was impossible.

I think you are favourite for the championship Dean. Even if Evil wins the last round you will only have to finish 9th to be champion.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Starting from slot2 i have big difficult with the gear change,is a question of memory into the brain.

never mind, you were too far away, no danger for me.
the old distraction problem and misjudging the situation, was not so difficult, was just not breaking enough for that line on the corner

Grats to Tris on the win, and to Dean for
a) Finding a Wi-Fi connection
 b) joining the race....
   c) finding Ferrari tricycle in which to complete the race!!!
     d) and preserving his hold on the 66 Championship  ;)

I was tempted to take my favourite car ( BRM 2ltr V8 ), but thought that the old Wazamobile should have a run. It's been a long time since I drove that car in anger.
I used an old setup from Albi that was ultra twitchy, but with a few adjustments to the diff, it became quite driveable. Tris and Alex appeared intent on fighting for pole position, and when the race started the battle continued. I decided to stay just second or so behind, but could not allow any more of a safety gap because Andreas was hunting me down  :-\. As long as Tris and Alex were disputing the lead I had no problem staying with them, until they tangled wheels and offered me the chance to take the lead.
The setup I was using was very slow at warming the tyres and it was difficult to push in the corners on cold tyres as the rear would just break away...which it did and I dropped to 4th as Andreas took the chance to sweep past.
Set off after the leading trio and gradually was reeling in Andreas when I came across a recovering Axel. This meant that Tris was alone up front and able to run his own race and pull away whilst Andreas, Axel and myself dispute the other 2 podium places.
Axel dragged me along with him until we caught Andreas, then he made the power of the Ferrari count and made the pass into 2nd place, before easing away. The Honda felt quicker than Andreas wanted to go, but I could not find a safe pass for several laps until I got a better drive out of one of the slow left handers and got myself on the inside line for the next right.
Axel was ahead but just in sight and I thought I might have a chance of catching him. He had a minor "off" and the gap was closed. Then I half spun and let him go again.
Not sure what happened to Axel as he just vanished when he was a few laps from the flag?, but I just had to keep a safe distance from Andreas and sweep up a comfy 2nd spot.

Best news yesterday was that I've found a place (for now). Staying with an old friend (whose wife, well, we've never really "clicked", so the sooner I'm out, the better for relations all 'round) who only has room because a kid is off to school. So my rig was set up on their kitchen table ("I'll be done by 5:30, disassembled and cleared by 5:45, PROMISE!! Now go away, luv ya, bye. :D" with bare minutes to go before qually started.

First few laps all ended in the wall because of pedals slipping, got that sorted, put up a decent time (accounting for almost no practice, and I really should have used the Brab 2.7 for stability's sake but had the points to spend and love that V12 sound too much), started at back anyway because I hadn't run in traffic with this wifi. Connection seemed pretty good from my end, some flickering but nobody disappearing for seconds.

Pedals slipped again going down to T2 on lap 1, almost managed to recover but wheels on grass, clipped the barrier putting me into half-spin off track but forcing Fran to take avoiding which meant Billy got involved, too. Sorries to both of them.  :(

Plan for the race was just to get some good points, so got my head down, started reeling off laptimes good enough to accomplish that, but my wheel turned out to be attached to the table not quite as securely as I thought, leading to missing the chicane many, many times. Then one of the cats that lives here decided that my feet and the pedals were absolutely intriguing. So between slipping wheel, pedals, and really not wanting the lady of the house to come investigate why her cat is screaming in pain with me in the kitchen, I'm quite OK with being two laps down after this disaster of a week. :)

Dean,

Your post was more entertaining than my race.

Hope you get sorted soon - but keep on with the 'trials & tribulations of a GPL racer' in the interim!

Because of this my car went in spin and, with the problem with Fairshift and without rear gear, was a problem to regain the race. The only way to return on the right direction was to bounce against some obstacle :D:Anyway not a big problem,i'm not fast on this track.
I hope you can find soon a stable accommadation.
