Title: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1967 F1 - Mosport - Sep 16
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on September 13, 2018, 10:55:41 PM +0100
Season 33 Graduates Cup – Round 10 –  Mosport

Season 33 really does seem  to have flown by. The season will close on familiar territory at Mosport which hosted the 1967 Canadian Grand Prix, so a Papyrus original. Thanks to all those that have taken part. The mixed grid of Works & Privateers has been a different challenge but we seem to have co-habited the same piece of tarmac reasonably well. The Championship titles have been won quite convincingly won by Tristan (Works) & David Rainier (Privateers).

The registrations for this seasons Graduates Cup are not sufficient to support separate grids. Therefore, both Works & Privateers drivers will participate on the same grid. All drivers have the same tokens allocations. We will, however, run two championships, & separate points will be scored for each. A Privateer may finish the actual race 5th, but still win the Privateers race. The race will be moderated as a combined grid. Privateers are asked not to hold up a Works driver whilst being lapped, but you may race fairly for track position.

The important difference is that Privateers are permitted one reset with a compulsory Stop & Go (taken within two laps). Although the race setting is “Intermediate” Works drivers are not allowed to take a reset.

Server = UKGPL8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 16-09-2018
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Papyrus
Race length = 36 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the Championship Standings Page  (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=637&theme=6)

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works  / Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I could see the practice server on iGor earlier & can see UKGPL_8 on the racelist now with the same IP address as previously advised.

But presumably racepost will be updated with details.

Cheers,
Dave.

 :(

Tried registering early today for the race, just realised I voted in works not privateers, but I guess would have been the same. I didn't get the password in time.

I'll have to try again next season maybe

After a long break from GPL I try to return & it went really great in qual  :D
...but that this race should end this way ARGH, my pedals disappeared under the table. Tried to go to Pit & get them back, but only to see them slide away again...I had to give up.  :'(

My worse race.At first problem with the gear box,no one gear in function.Exit from the game and check more than one time.After problem also with the wheel and is not the first time.There was an incident and i had a collision with a Brab. found in the middle of the track crosswise.After this incident the engine was not the same and again few laps i had an explosion.Shift-r and the engine return normal but again strange feeling with the wheel and many error.Finished only for the honor  :laugh:

I was 8/10ths of a second faster in qualifying today than my PB in a Cooper yesterday, and for my patience, dedication, and good cheer I was rewarded with a 13th on the grid of 16 total. I've said it before, but this league is a place where guys like me come to get their feelings hurt. A lot.

Anyway, the first ten laps were predictably ragged, but soon the dust settled and I managed to ease in for a reasonably comfortable ride through the woods. I did perform a 180-degree spin coming up out of the hollow early on, collected two cars who had the misfortune of following me, and for that I am sincerely apologetic. In more than 200 laps of practice for this event in the last ten days, I didn't come close to losing the car there on a single occasion. In that regard Mosport has always seemed to me to be a bit like tightrope walking: 99% boredom and 1% panic.

I told my wife that I'd be overjoyed with a top ten finish. I'm overjoyed, by a whisker :D.

Lost a lot of time untangling my car after the incident at the beginning a lap 2. Jack & I got ourselves wedged together. Quite busy after that, even though I suspect connection issues were slowing down Dean enough for us to have a race. I also managed to stick fairly tight with Jeep for several laps - after he had lapped me. My PC has developed a severe dislike to IGOR. I am getting an error which removes the program from GEM. Fortunately Cookie posted an IP address but I can't get IGOR running at the moment.

I still have no idea how I bagged 2nd at this one. Obviously Trist and Pelle having issues helped but it still wasn't one of my finer races. Fortunately managed to miss Greg's spinning Lotus on L2 which seemed to slow most of the field. Then Pelle went wide at T8 so I think I was 2nd. Trist as usual just drove off into the distance until he disappeared. Clive was in close proximity for a while and I soon had a hard charging Greg closing fast. It might sound defeatist but I was already planning on the best place to let him past as I knew he was nearly 2s a lap quicker then me in clean air. As it was I messed up all on my own, bottoming out through the dip just before Moss and stuck it in the barrier. By the time I had got everything pointed in the right direction Greg was but a distant memory and Bastian had also squeezed through. Had a great few laps following Bastian, I was quicker into the corners but he was quicker on the exits so I was never able to get close enough to attack him into one of the breaking zones. Then he spun at T3 and I found a way through on the outside while he gathered it all back together.

For the remainder of the race I managed to extend my advantage until with about 6 to go I started to notice my fuel state with some concern. Backing off and short shifting didn't seem to help much and as the tyres cooled down I started to get a bit ragged and I was watching Basian's progress on Prib trying to keep the closing gap to as little as possible By the time I had 3 to go I was convinced I was going to need a splash and dash and sure enough exiting Moss the Brabham started to splutter. I thought I still had another lap to go but as I reached T8 I saw the gap to Greg was dropping quickly. He had either crashed on the last lap in which case I needed my splash and dash or he had finished. I took a chance and didn't pit and was so very relieved to see the guy waving the chequered flag as I came out of  Whites corner. Finally crossed the line with 0.2g which became 0.1g as I rolled to a stop at the end of the pit lane.

Really enjoyed this season and stunned to have got 2nd in the championship even allowing for a few notable absentees this seasnon.

Thanks guys, it was a blast as usual.

TTFN
John.

Congrats John and Bastian!

My apologies to everybody. I'm the one that started all the chaos at the end of lap 1. Add a slight mistake from Andreas, and we got a real disaster. I did better than I thought I had. I thought I might have clipped John as he passed but I didn't. It's good to see that Clive slipped by just before Andreas's car could roll back into him.

It looks like I finally have my new computer running GPL 60fps well. I was getting video tearing when I joined the server. I went ahead and ran one stint. I'm glad I was able go offline and find the gpu setting that needed to be changed. It looks like I might be able to enjoy some driving at 60fps now. GPL and my hardware has been annoying me for several months to a year or two.

I thought Tristan was driving better than I was. I don't know how to make the Brabham go as fast as he did in qualifying. I thought the only reason I might beat him was my excellent car. It was nice to drive the Lotus. I don't get many opportunities to drive it and it would get boring to run away from the field more than occasionally. I had it moving good late in the race. I wish we'd have had one more lap. I had enough fuel for one more lap. That might have got me a new PB.

You guys are good gentlemen. You all showed good discipline while being lapped. A lot of you actually did more than you needed to let me lap you. It looked like Dean and Dave C did far more than they needed to do. With Tristan out of the race, I had every intention of being patient while lapping. Thanks Jack for leaving me some room at Moss. I was trying to hold the car beside the curb on the right. I slid across to the left side exiting Moss. That was the only time I made a mistake when lapping. Pepe might have thought he was driving brilliantly at one point. He was keeping up with me when I slowed late in the race to let Andreas and Clive finish without me interfering. Sorry about that spin in front of you. I lost my rhythm when I slowed.

I can't say I drove well. I spun 4 times and I went off the track twice. Tristan should have beat me.

As it was I messed up all on my own, bottoming out through the dip just before Moss and stuck it in the barrier.

I wondered what you were doing. I thought, "don't drive off the track for me". Eventually, I'd have probably beat you down the back straight.

Thanks for letting me race with you guys.

Pepe might have thought he was driving brilliantly at one point.

I rarely think such things.   :P

Still, during the last two-thirds of the race I wasn't being actively homicidal. My standard deviations and on-track laps were a little above average, IIRC. I can't complain about that. But for a while yesterday Mosport looked like Tombstone, Arizona with a replay of the gunfight at the OK corral. It was pure Wild West.

Well, I'm still in the same place mentioned in my previous race report, just not at HER kitchen table. ;)

Wheel is now very solidly attached to a rather wobbly desk, and the chair I was in kept slipping back when I hit the brakes, if anyone's wondering why I was near 2 secs. off my normal Brab pace. Between those issues, I just wanted to finish my race, and NOT finish anyone else's.

So I managed to do those things, and even kept 3rd in the championship. Hope I can get stuff sorted and give a better fight next season.

Final race has been moderated, so Season 33 67's is now closed off.
Congratulations to Tristan for a convincing championship win & David Rainier, 6th overall but Privateers champion. There were some extra challenges with a mixed grid (for both those lapping cars & those being lapped) but overall this did not seem to cause to much of problem. Whether we run two grids next season will depend on the number of registrations.

Many thanks to all who participated. Have a great Christmas & look forward to seeing you on the grid for Season 34.
