This is gonna be tight, tighter, tightst. I just hope it all works out better than at Mondello. That was a mess.
Because Peter didn't score any points in race 1, all I need to do now is finish every race in the top 3 to win the champiponship :D. He took my clean sheet in the TC65 class and must now pay >:( :P ;D

30 laps of this li'l beast should be a good laugh, that little chicane is a real pain even in a TC65 car :o :-\ :D

Great fun as usual with GTL and thought the track suited the cars very well. Am constantly amazed by how fast you can take T1 and still get away with it!!

Got a tap and spun about half way through but grabbed back the lost places evewntually and wnded up going 18 to 11. Fairly pleased with that. The racing is great these days, right through the field. No matter wher you qualify you know you're going to get a good race.

With the greater server capacity now and the healthy turn-out I think it's worth looking again at spreading the points further down the field. The discussion eventually died on its arse last time but the point is still very much valid.

B'ah what a disaster. ISP went down between 8.20 and 9.04, so missed all practise and qually sessions. >:(
Literallly joined just as the game announced 'next session' for the race. ::)

Didnt even have a setup for this track and had to use my mondello setup and hope for the best.

Had a couple of laps getting to know the track at the start of the race, then gradually joined into a tussle with Jamera, Paul968 (what was you doing back there?) and Adam P.
Sorry to Jamera for tapping you mate, your car was disapearing and reapearing  :o....at one point i drove right through what was i thought you dis-coing, only for you to appear about another 50 yards down the track :-\

Carried on and closing down Picnic, Dave G and one other with Paul chasing me hard, who then got by me cleanly in one of the turns. Just as i was looking forward to a good 4 way fight, i suffered some weird 1fps shite that made the car undriveable and i ended up all over the place, losing about 10 seconds to everyone. It did it again later in the race and scuppered any chance of enjoying the race :'(
Must have been the ISP playing up again or bloody Norton doing some of its black magic ???
Wasnt really worth me turning up....but i tried!

Bit of a boring race for me , i was hoping to be able to stay with Shark after the start  but after two or three laps he was gone.  Nearly Spun and TYf got past but i managed to drag my self up to him but then he spun which i was dissapointed with as it would have been a good battle. For the last 7 or 8 laps i had Greg130 a couple of seconds behind but i think he got caught up wth a lapper and dropped back a little. :)

Great driving by everyone,  Grats to the winners. ;D

Cheers

Qualified on pole, so I was pleased :D.

Race all went well. I kept increasing the lead on Peter every lap and the car held pretty well during the whole race.
Not much happened, not even Adam spinning infront of me....lol ;D.
There was some hairy moment with Locutos, because he wanted to make a fair move and let me pass, but I didn't expect that so I almost went off avoiding him :).
I don't know if I hit you Eddie. I was very close behind you before I overtook you, but when I looked behind you were a bit in the grass. I didn't experience an impact, but that could be the faulty impactphysics. If I did hit you, I'm sorry for that.

The rolling ranking/ladder system which will replace Season 1ish when its over gives points to everyone, so the point [sic] will be moot then. :P

That was a bit of a 'nearly' race for me. I nearly did some practice. The car was nearly undrivable despite the usual setup tweaks; massive understeer mid-corner, followed by massive power oversteer - most un-Cortinalike. :( Nearly had a good race with Picnic until a warped car took us both out. Nearly had a good race with Bernie Lomax until a pair of tank slappers (one each) ended that one. Eventually spun in frustration as Zacari lapped me, then nearly got mugged on the last lap by Eddie Meyer.

Not sure if I'll be at next week's penultimate round as there's a works do in London which I may or may not attend (depending on who else goes ).

Paul968 (what was you doing back there?)
I did the same as last week, joined at the very last minute with no practice or setup and no time to qual. Started at the back in twenty somethingth. Took several laps just to get on the pace and then started working my way forward. Has some great tussles with Adam, Mark, Picnic, Bernie, L.UKKGTL and Dave G to name a few. Got tapped from behind and lost a few places at one point, and when the leaders came round it was very confusing - no warning and right in the middle of the constant battle for the lower places. Finished 12th in the end, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Personally I would not choose to race at that track tho - too narrow and too few straights to make a pass safe. Turn 1 to 2 was the only real option for a pass.

I believe I was also a victim of said warped car  :o  as I tried to avoid the spinning cars ahead of me and then the poxy game gave me a stop go for it  :censored: , after that I became the mobile bus stop that a few people passed   , lately I'm beginning to think I am crap at this, don't know why I'm bothering tbh, just another thing in my life that's F**KING me off  :taz: , rant over , well done to all the other guys who had good races, at least I didn't ruin any of the leaders races.

That was hard work and very lonely, with Ruskus and Pero scampering off into the distance.  Quali went well taking .2s off PB for 3rd, then for the race 30 laps actually went faster than I expected.  Amazing pace by Ruskus as usual  :)

Replay (http://ukgtl.simracing.org.uk/Hockenheim%20Short%20-%20Season%201-ish%20060518.zip) and provisional results posted.

Wasn't going to do the race as I was meant to be doing something else. But other things got in the way so I found myself suddenly free at 8:45 so I joined in :)

Sadly no practice meant I was a bit erratic but the race was going ok until I got a stop go for going the long way around a corner  :-\ Daft game. Sort of messed me up and I quit after a silly accident caused through loss of interest.

Great battles before then, very clean too. Amazingly consistent pace up front too. Good stuff.

in next race GS will try to be more competitive.

Great race again peeps!

Not praccied, but managed a decent 1,18, 14th on grid. Had some great battles with Minton for a bit, then Greg for laps, spun, managed to be 7th at some point, spun again, I guess ;) and then battled it out with JohnnyD till the end, which was great racing. Tyres were ice in last couple of laps, so quite happy to finish 10th :D.

Grats Rusk (and answer ur PM! ;) :P ;D)

On to the next 1!

P.S. For me it was Locutos that warped around after T1 which made me brake a bit early (scary as heck when a car does that 50 yrd jumping, lol) and prolly caused some probs behind me, hehe.

Great race, good fun. Never been accused of being a warp car before, my net is always solid. Even more worrying, twice during qual & race all the cars on track disappeared for 3 or 4 secs, was very scarey not knowing if it was safe to turn in, brake or what.

Ouch, just watched the replay, my car sinks into the track on S/F str8, then stops just before T1, thats exactly where everyone disappeared. Sorry for the ensuing mayhem, wasnt aware of it here obviously.

Yep - another fun race, and not much spinning on my part for a change.  Lost time in T2 a couple of times.  Had some great tussles through most of the race, just got a bit lonely at the end of the race.

Haven't got a clue how you guys at the front do the laps you do .... well, other than bothering to practice, getting a decent setup and having a bit more driver skill and experience :D :D :D :D.

Grats Ruskus on the win - fraid there was nothing I could do to spoil it this time  :P.

I was very pleased to qualify 8th and could even keep the position for some laps. And then the mistakes started, as most of the races due to lack of experience and concentration. Worked my way back to 13th and even 19th.

No worries Ruskus, there was contact but with no consequences.

Is there anything more annoying than a ridiculous stop/go penalty (other than our Euro song contest entry) ? Fair enough running wide on first corner got me one, but then I got two running wide into little chicane that follows hairpin. Where I lost a lot of time and a couple of places anyways  :taz:.

Great fun apart from that. Surprising fun in the Cortina, still prefer mini  :), and new wheel. Great comedy moment, laughing at Gregs (badly) botched overtaking move I ran wide and and he snuck back through. Great move mate   ;). And it was a little scary trying to hold up a pack of hungry Alfas, amazing that one of the GS boys was up front in Cortina. Hopefully us humans can be more competitive in it as well.

LOL! I was 1 of those Alfas. Can remember thinking 'who the heck is holding us all up?! >:( >:( >:( , bloody hell, pass him then, EGGS!, he's in a Cortina! FFS! ;D'
TBH u helped me a lot there Gin, gave me time to catch up with Greg and the others and when u finally cracked, I had some great other battles as well :).

I got a bloody stop go for running wide at T1 & the last turn, sooooo annoying. Anyway was so far down the field I decided to ignore it and wait for the DQ  :P

Gotta say that was a fun race until that point, but I am a little disheartened that I seem to be so far off the pace in GTL (not that I'm the quickest in GTR, but the guys tell me I'm improving. Mind you I think they just tell me that so they won't be the slowest team driver :-\ )

Anyway, practice, practice, practice, though that's proving difficult with so much BF2 action going on   ;D ;) ;D

Once again, confusion on the formation lap!  I did read the rules, BTW; missed that section the first time through because I never knew we would be doing rolling starts.  On this one, I could not understand what the cars in front of me were doing ???; a gap would open and we would race ahead -- attempting to catch up, I thought -- only to have brakes slammed on again.  Without a steady pace to lock onto I was unsure when it was safe to warm the tires versus trying to get back with the leaders and keep up.  Going into the final turns the leaders got so far away from us that there was a push to catch up, but when we arrived at the s/f line, more brake lights came on??  :o ??? :(  I ended up tapping Eddie Meyer in the rear, sorry for that :-[ (no harm, fortunately), when he slowed down again for Dan Minton who still had a gap to make up.  Basically, we lost our orderly line somewhere.  Perhaps it's better in the last turns to concentrate more on the orderly line and less on tires/brakes??  We really should not have to be playing catch-up at all on the formation lap.

That little holdup at the s/f line gave ginsters the chance to get a drive on me at the start, but I got the spot back in T2.  I bobbled a lap later and gave the spot back after which a furious battle ensued while the rest of the pack was getting away.  I finally got the drive out of the last turn and going into T1 we were side-by-side, but ginsters stayed over to the right a little bit, pushing me to the inside and causing me to bobble the braking and jump the curb (cut track...) which then pushed me wide coming out of the turn.  ::)  I know there's plenty of room for two to make it through there and I think that could've been much cleaner.  But I got by and started re-catching the field.

A few laps later, making progress but dripping with sweat, I made an error and rejoined in the middle of an ongoing battle between Tyf and Greg130.  Greg130 really wanted to get back that spot behind Tyf and made a braking error going into T2 from way to the inside (which I was trying to defend going into the turn...); I was spun and my car was not the same after that (perhaps minor damage) so I was unable to catch the field again. :(

Much later in the race I was able to get behind Tyf for some really great battling: I would catch up, try to set up a pass, get thwarted and drop back, then do it again. :D Great stuff! ;D Two laps from the end with our tires in flames, Tyf had a hot-tires-moment under acceleration :o which was just enough to give me the spot, onto which I was able to hang for the last laps despite some really heavy driving on his part. 8) If you watch the replay, you can see how misbehaved our cars were at the end , especially going into T2 for the last time as I totally bobbled the braking.

A very good race that could've been even better!

   -=> J <=-

PS -- I see Tyf describes our tires at the end as "ice" ... fire and ice, LMAO!  I can also see cars lagging at the start in my replay which could have been a factor in my confusion during the rolling start as I remember seeing some cars jumping around a bit.  MUCH better to have the GTL start lag problem on a formation lap than a hot race lap!!

Thanks. Yup, I tried some new things for this vid. Slow-mo parts with slow music, and action scenes when the music kicked up. Also near the end, the screenshots at the rythm of the drums. That was very hard, because it comes very precise, and movie maker isn't.
For me this video is more fun to watch than videos that show comment and just overtaking action.

LOL. Are you sure you wasn't in? That screenshot of that Cortina in the pits, doing a S/G ;D.
I can share you the setup I use. Not made by me, but it's very usefull for the Alfa at just about every track, and very consistent during the race. I was doing low 1:16's the whole race long (except with backmarkers ofcourse).
That picture would look awesome at the side of a car. But instead of the smileyhead, the helmet of the driver ;D. Too bad I can't paint, or else I would make something like it :D

I enjoyed that Johnny  :). I thought your overtaking move there was a beaut, brave stuff, and surprised the hell out of me. Really, I was just holding you and the Alfas up as much as I could, and enjoying every minute of it.

Edit-Looked pretty good in video as well. Christ quite a lot happened around me  ;), best video so far.

Oops sorry. Can you see how many times the video was downloaded. Would be interesting to know, because the others were around 60-80 times downloaded.

Vette Daytona.wmv   299

UKGTL S1 Race 201.wmv   132

UKGTL Hock short.wmv   75

UKGTR Magny Cours_0001.wmv   29

Fun race UKGTL.wmv   16

Not all those are completed downloads I might add and the stats are a bit vague on what that figure is actually referring to.

Gonna keep a careful eye on it, but for now just don't upload anymore as hopefully the downloads on the current videos will drop off massively anyway. If not I'll block the links.
