Anything I should know about pitstops? I see you can have a pitstop preset & it appears you have no option but to change tyres. Also the game takes control of the car during the stop, can this be changed.

It's RACEDAY  :)

The practice server is up and running

Not sure about the pitstop details, I haven't done one for ages in RRE. It used to be a manual process where you could set the pitstop options before the race and also change them on the fly during the race, but the thing that caught people out was that you had to make sure you mapped the function buttons so that you could activate the pitstop when you stopped at your pitbox. I will definitely have a play before the race tonight

I thought they were manual too. You can get done for speeding so make sure you know where the pit limiter is as well.

Maybe there's a setting to change between Manual or if the game takes control?

I think it has been updated since we last used pitstops

Are the results correct? I thought I was behind Spanner, but Geoff and Riccardo were in front of us?
And why was Eck and Frex black flagged?

not sure what happened in that race (several disqualifications?). I will have a close look at the server settings during the week to try to work out what happened. Could the people who got disqualified please let me know what they were for?

Think I have found the answer, in GT3 races (not sure about other classes) with mandatory pitstop, you must change at least 2 tyres. That is why Riccardo & I got penalised, we just refuelled.  ::)

Speeding in the pit lane? Its not an automatic limiter i believe.

Is that how Raceroom has been set up Geoffers?

Apparently, I found this topic at RRE forum:
https://forum.sector3studios.com/index.php?posts/120891/
You have to change at least 2 tyres at mandatory pit stops. Riccardo & I both got 90s penalty for not changing tyres.

Anyhow was a good race, battled with Matt & Eck for the first few laps, got past Eck more by luck than judgement, was actually trying to avoid rear-ending him  :o. Eck pitted shortly afterwards but before pit window opened leaving me harrying Matt, got ahead when he made a mistake only to lose it the next lap when I ran wide at the hairpin. Pitted shortly after but overshot my pit & lost time deciding what to do, so tried reversing & approaching again & that worked, just added fuel. Rejoined & was about 5s behind Riccardo & in 2nd place after everyone had pitted, I think the McLaren was quicker than Riccardo's Porsche because I caught him at about 1s a lap & easily passed on the back straight & pulled away for what I thought was my first RRE win, wrong! ::)

Congrats to Spanner & Matt.

Mandatory pitstops is a setting on the server. It does not have to be on.
It's Stephens choice whether to just make it a rule, or to force it in game
Personally I hate pitstops, and our lack of understanding spoiled the race
for some.

Yeah, I messed up the stop and got DQ'd, though it was my fault for not giving myself any time to get the procedure down properly. I did a quick practice race just before I joined the server, and in that the AI took over control of my car and turned on the limiter automatically, so I figured as long as I came in slow enough I didn't have to map a button for the limiter. That was wrong, as in the race I had full control at all times and got done for exceeding the pitlane speed limit. I guess that's why I got DQ'd as I left the pits, although I would have thought I would have just got a penalty rather than an immediate DQ? Maybe not. I also couldn't work out how to take on fuel, despite confirming it as an option, as my car would only change tyres.. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, so will spend more time on it if we have pitstops in again. Was a fun race up to the stops however..

Congrats Mark, Matt and Geoff.

Like FREX I tried a practice race offline before the race to check out the pit procedure and experienced the same as him with the AI taking over, so thought the pitstops would be trouble free. One point to note about pitstops:

when you select your tyre choice or fuel amount, you must also make sure the box turns green other wise it will not carry out the command. (caught me out a few times in the past where I set the fuel to 30L but forgot to turn the box green)

Returning to pitstops in the Sunday night GT3 series. People got disqualified last night for exceeding the pitlane speed limit, I am not sure whether this always happens or whether it was because I selected the mandatory pit stop option on the server. I will investigate later this week. If it is not possible to remove this rule then I will stop using the pitstops, in my opinion you should just get a drive through as in real life.

I will post more on the subject later in the week

Yes, I'm aware of ensuring the options are green, setting custom strategies and putting them into the correct order etc etc. However, one thing that has just occurred to me - do you have to switch off the engine when you refuel?

I remember an NSU race from sometime back where I was going to run out of fuel so I pitted with a couple of laps left to get some. I sped in the pitlane and got a drive through. I didn't get DQ'ed having served that drive through on the next lap. Did people get DQ'ed as they completed their pitstops or because they didn't server the drive through in a timely manner?

I didn't last night & it must have refuelled the car because I only started with enough for 20 laps.

I got notification of being disqualified as I drove down the pitlane. I was able to complete my stop, but then got immediately thrown out of the race as I exited the pitlane. No drive-through, or any option to serve some other penalty as far as I could tell.

I didn't last night & it must have refuelled the car because I only started with enough for 20 laps.

Ah ok, thanks.

It may be that if they are not mapped the game automatically takes care of starting/stopping the engine ? (I un-mapped mine so that if I skid off during a race I don't waste time restarting the car)

Eck got DQ for pitting before the pit window was open I think.

Indeed, stupid me.

I didn't pay full attention to the pit time message (I may well have gotten a little perturbed, between it and the end of the lap, too  :-[). Thought, I'm getting out of this mess. Entered pit with Mark telling me, very calmly, its not open for three minutes... "oh joy" or similar, might have crossed my harried mind, just as the game reported I'd pitted too early and I been dq'd. I proceeded to leave in, much less than the "minute and, a huff" Groucho Marx mentioned.

So this enforced pitstop window appears to be a disaster then. You should still be able to pit outside the window and should only be DQ'ed if you didn't pit in the window. Also where did the drive trough penalties go for speeding, no real world series will give you an immediate DQ for speeding.

Absolute madness

Post by: SRW on November 07, 2018, 01:10:49 PM +0000
I did some testing on the server last night:

1. You CAN pit before the window opens (but you would still need to carry out a pitstop during the official window)

2. The pitlane speed limit is 60kph, if you travel between 60 & 100 kph you get a drive through penalty

3. if you travel over 100 kph you get disqualified

I suspect the people that got disqualified probably braked late on pit entry and didn't get their speed down before the start of the pitlane.

I introduced the pitstops to make the races more exciting and a bit tactical, now that we have a better understanding of the procedure I can write some instructions for future races. I would like to continue using pitstops for some of the races, but if the majority don't want them then I will stop using them. I think it would be good to at least try one more race with pitstops. What does everyone else think?

Post by: frex on November 07, 2018, 02:45:25 PM +0000
Thanks for spending time on testing Stephen. However, I was pretty sure I didn't enter the pits too fast, and didn't exceed 100kph, yet still got an instant DQ. I guess it's likely I am mistaken, but I will check my race replay and see if I can work out what was going on.

What does everyone else think?

Now that I know to map a button for the limiter, and assuming I can get the procedure down properly, I'd be happy to give it another try.

Yep, thanks for doing the testing SRW.

Like Frex, I am happy to give it another try as long as we all know how it works & what to do & what not to do. I thought before the race it was just me that didn't know how pitstops worked!  :P
