Yes, we're waiting for the webspace Tyf has generously setup to filter it's domain changes through before it works. Hopefully wont be long now.

I have d/led the 2002Monaco track from Tyfs site - is this the same one? If so, when I try to use GTRManager to install it, it says its not a GTRManager addon file ???

No it's not quite the same. UKGTR's one includes AI updates and a tunnel fix. The layout of the track is the same though if you want to practice/
Tyf's files are not GTR Manager compatible.

When the UKGTR one is available please uninstall any you have and install this one. It is also GTR Manager compatible.

This sounds like fun. A very hard track with not so fast cars can give close battles. Never driven the Beamer tho.

Thanks to Zacari for testing Monaco and finding out a good car to drive round it.

If the link isn't up soon, I may need an emergency hosting location (probably right here on the SimRacing website).  :-\

Just downloaded the track and installed it with ModMan FWIW.

Am I stating the bloomin obvious when I say, boy, this is one difficult track? ;)

Any set-up tips for the Z3? I can't seem to get enough grip at the back and am tending to lock and slide when braking occasionally.

Well Paul, If its anything like racing at Monaco in GPL its all slip and slide  :o

Post by: PaulW on May 22, 2006, 03:36:13 PM +0100
Actually, I'm slowly cobbling something together that's quite stable- if anyone wants to make use of the set-up then just shout. Frankly, the better prepared for this we all are the more chance we have of more than one car finishing ;)

If it can stick to the track then yes please! ;D

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Zacari on May 22, 2006, 03:41:09 PM +0100
All I changed from the default setup is to move the brake balance forward 3% to get it more drivable.  Ignore the black racing line around most of the corners and definately ignore the AI line as there both not that great.  I'll end up changing my setup more than that eventually but moving the balance forward stops the car pitching itself into the barriers under braking.

I'll post a setup/hotlap too once I've got one sorted. (you should try the Elise if you want to see how much worse it could be! :P)

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Colin Paxton on May 22, 2006, 04:56:30 PM +0100
Well I changed the brake balance forward and managed a 1:59  ::) Need more grip!

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Zacari on May 22, 2006, 08:30:57 PM +0100
Ok, messed around with the setup a bit:

Monaco Setup (http://www.vampiricnation.com/GTR/downloads/setups/BMW-CP-Monaco_Qv3.svm)

Monaco Hot Lap (http://www.vampiricnation.com/GTR/downloads/replays/Monaco_Zacari_1-47-6_Qv3.Vcr) (in-game replay)

The replay lap is lap 3 of a stint, it will take a couple of laps to get the front & rear grip levels up.

I fluked a 1:51 but am more usually in teh 1:53's matey. Takes such a lot of learning but I'm finding I can take surprising liberties now I know the ins and outs.

Jyust noticed- you're 2nd and I'm 3rd in the World (out of 7) Zacari  ;) ;D

Cool! :D No idea why more people haven't done laps in the BMW there though, it's much more drivable than the Elise and there are 29 for that! :o

oh, i'm so envious of you lot cos i'm gonna miss this one. :'(  I love Monaco and have pounded around a thousand times in my Geoff Hammond GP series days, so could hopefully have been pretty competitive here.
Hopefully the track works well for online racing and we can chuck it into a sprint series along the line :-\

Happy racing chaps  8)

Never driven it before! There is unfortunately one dodgy corner in the Marina section where you supposedly leave the track whilst still on it. I bet a fair few people get caught by it and get unfair stop/go's as a result. It's a shame but not a show stopper if you just adjust your line a bit.

I've done about 150 laps round there so far in various cars and never seen this ??? do you mean the chicane out of the tunnel or the swimming pool complex?  I cut lumps off the curbs in the swimming pool complex and have never got any penalty for it.

It's the corner just by the top left corner of the N on this map-

http://www.f1-monaco-grand-prix.com/Formula_1/track_diagram.htm

The first of the two there, not the second which is very (nicely!) cuttable without penalty. If I approach that first corner wide and then swing in for the corner I never get the track cutting warning whereas if I try to straighten that section out and approach quite straight on and more to the left, just clipping the inside left kerb of that first corner I trigger the penalty every time. It isn't physically possible to leave the track there because there's a dirty great steel barrier all the way along. It can't be just me can it?!!!

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Don on May 23, 2006, 07:41:31 PM +0100
Funny, I haven't had any warnings there yet! Could be that I'm just too slow ;D

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Zacari on May 23, 2006, 08:10:53 PM +0100
Ok thanks Paul, I'll check that later on this evening.  I have clobbered that curb on the left but always from out wide and never got a warning for it :-\

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: PaulW on May 24, 2006, 11:41:46 AM +0100
Funnily enough I was unable to trigger the cut penalty during a few laps last night, yet I did have it 4 or 5 times yesterday. Very strange.

And you buggers Zacari and Paul.... I put in what I thought was a great 1:50.5 and uploaded it only to find you are BOTH in the 1:47's now!  :P

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: PaulW on May 24, 2006, 12:53:26 PM +0100
OK all- just to be clear, there IS a dodgy 'cut track' area on the Monaco circuit. It's at the corner I described but actually a little way forward from the turn on the left hand side of the track. Keep your left front wheel on or to the right of the darker racing line mark at this corner and you're safe.

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Zacari on May 24, 2006, 01:34:51 PM +0100
I still can't trigger it ??? ::) :D I'll try again after lunch but even running totally over the curb on the left I can't manage it.

When you get the warning, have you already set a fast time?  Cut track thingies only happen if you cut through an illegal section faster than you've gone beforehand.

Oh, and I've got the world record now :P at least until Ruskus/CJ/some other alien does a quali run this evening!

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: picnic on May 24, 2006, 01:41:42 PM +0100
The server is running this as a practice session just now, might be worth trying the server to check you are running same version and that it exhibits the problem or not.

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Zacari on May 24, 2006, 02:22:11 PM +0100
OK, I've found the dodgy bit of track!  So it's not a myth :D but it is way off the normal racing line so hopefully no-one will cut over it and get a warning in the race.  I could only trigger it once and I had to be a long way to the left before the corner for it to happen, and anyone on that part of the circuit will be beside the barriers on the right before the turn-in there.

Why it's 'cutting' the track on entry and not the exit of that left-right 'S' I have no idea!

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Jeffrey on May 24, 2006, 02:53:55 PM +0100
Pff, I just did about 20 laps or so, and ended up sweaty :D. Did a 1:46.5 but there is room for lot's of improvement.
To be fast at this track it's just a matter of cutting as much as possible, without getting a penalty, and that's a shame. The chicane after the tunnel is such an example, where you can cut like mad.
The most important thing about this track is trying to survive. I think the race could be a mess. ;D

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Paul968 on May 24, 2006, 03:14:57 PM +0100
I wondered how much you could cut there. So far I've stayed on the curbs at least for all my laps. Can you go far inside them? Did your 46.5 lap cut much?

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Zacari on May 24, 2006, 03:36:49 PM +0100
I've never managed to cut that chicane with any real benifit, maybe a few tenths by going partly over the kerbing.  Can't cut the exit much or you'll get a cut track warning.

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Simon Gymer on May 24, 2006, 04:08:48 PM +0100
Ok, not to be a party pooper, but blatent cutting is going to be frowned upon. Normally we let the game cutting code be the judge but as this is a special and by the sounds of it slightly dodgy addon track if there are clear unadulterated shortcuts at Monaco please be a gentleman and not use them.  :angel-wings:

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Paul968 on May 24, 2006, 04:34:58 PM +0100
It's a bit like the cut on the final chicane at Nurburgring Simon. I need to experiment to see how much you can take, but the nature of the chicane means that people are bound to overshoot there so it may be hard to enforce. If the cut check is on the exit as Zacari says then it wont be too bad as you line will be bad if you cut the first bit. I'm not sure there are other obvious places to cut blatantly.

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Zacari on May 24, 2006, 05:16:15 PM +0100
The major one is in the swimming pool complex, where you can run totally over the exit with no fear of a cut track warning.  If we're having to obide by that kerb we need to make it very clear as it gains a good second a lap!

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: PaulW on May 24, 2006, 05:44:02 PM +0100
Yup, the chicane following the tunnel possibly even penalises you for cutting it early because that then leaves your car pointing straight at the arnco. As Zacari says cutting the chicane at the swimming pool makes a massive difference though. Ah well, point taken Shark, time for a bit of fairplay driving  :)

Title: Re: GTR Special - Monaco BMW - 24th May
Post by: Paul968 on May 24, 2006, 05:46:29 PM +0100
OK - there are two places. The first at the chicane after the tunnel can be cut quite a bit but it is risky as there's no reference to guide you. It is certainly worth a good fraction of a second tho. The 2nd one is the curb which sits in the middle of the track as the 2nd part of a left right flick. You can effectively ignore it. This is also worth a good part of a second.

I did a test, and within half a dozen laps I had a 1.44.5. This would probably drop to a 43 with a bit more time.

I'm not sure there is much point trying to legislate against it as there is no easy way to enforce it. Like all the other tracks we do (esp in GTL) finding out how much you can cut is part of the game (or has been up to now anyway). I'd rather it wasn't that way, but since it is I reckon it's easiest just to accept it.

I somehow loaded the wrong setup and I coudn't stop it or turn it very easily - which kinda comes in handy at Monaco.
Great battle forming between the top two  - hope you all have fun

Really enjoyed that and was pleased to finish a place up on Qualifying on such a nightmare track. Thanks to simracing for putting on a nice refreshing race with a different car and track choice to normal- tempted me back to GTR after a very long break!

The race for me was against the track, not the others. I lost Zacari and Paul968 in the horizon in front of me quickly.

I was aiming for a 30 minute race, or 13 laps, but it was over after 11 laps ???.

I agree PaulW, it was fun to be on a completely different track, with a car I've never driver before.

That was fun, so few turning up though removed much of the magic of the event.

Quali'd in pole and struggled throughout not to cut the chicane after the tunnel, cost me alot of time in the race and didnt do the tyers any good!  Ended up shifting down twice rather than once coming out of Massanet and went into the barriers, rear tyers were far too hot after that and took the rest of the race to cool down.  Good battle at the front with Paul though, shame there weren't another 15 or so turn up :-\ ::)

It was 13 laps on my screen Ruskus :P

Yes, I enjoyed that too. XZacari nicked pole by a 10th or two, and the first half of the race were very evenly matched. When he had a spin at Casino square I was handed a nice 5 second cushion and managed to hold it till the end. Really intense driving but very satisfying not to have an off.
