Just downloaded track mod and has a culturalogical shock!  :o
This track is SO professionally made, so accurate in phisical mesh and small details of it , very fine tuned in walls surfaces, nature scene graphics is TOP balanced in view, i just fully amazed this track update ( comparing to earlier version) Best FPS. IMO, this track mod is one of top track mods i ever seen. Better than Kunos!  ;)

The car need to be just slightly, smallest slightly tuned here.. Very small amount of setupping , needs just 133+ percents of time  to make a car drivable  ;D
But it will be very interesting way for me  :P

I chose the no-chicane layout so you can stay flat out longer  ;) less corners to get wrong  ;D

Only tricky section is the two midfield down-hill left handers, easy to fall off onto the grass there if you carry too much speed or lock up.

Practice server is up if anyone gets a bit bored over the festive period :)

Is your style  was : Braking straihgt line, jump to change direction and flat out ?

These are tricky to setup.
I've never found a safe/grippy setup for them (They're lethal at Le Mans when running no wing for example :hammer: ), and the same applies here.
You can almost ignore the gearing, I wasted nearly an hour trying for better ratios - but the options in the 917 are so awkward I only ended up going slower.
You can lengthen the gearing to make the cars safer on corner exit, but you will loose considerable speed onto the straights - it also has the effect of removing some engine braking, which is critical in these beasts if you actually want to stop ;D

All I can advise is try to create enough stability that when the car moves around under you you feel safe and in control. If it stops moving under you then it'll be dog slow based on my own practice laps.
Also remember that the wings only affect the tail end of the car - max wing and you'll be very slow through T1 as you won't be able to turn. No wing and you'd better hold damn tight! :laugh:

As for my own style in these - pretty much the same as always. Just with less sideways.
Braking upto and into the turns, balancing on the throttle through them and only flooring it when I know the car can actually make the exit.
For wings, my current fastest lap is with a moderate degree of wing - I can't be sure exactly what as I'm still playing with flaps Vs Wing angle, they affect the car differently and I'm still trying to find the best balance point.
I also still need to do a zero/very low wing setup to see how the car behaves - I'm expecting T2/3 to incredibly dangerous like that though.

You can expect roughly Jeffrey's lap time without touching the wings and through making only minor changes to the setup.

I was eating panettone.
As FMG I lost a lot of time testing the gears and the wings. In the end I think that mid wings is fine.

Oddly the 917-30 is much easier to drive here.
It's also 10 seconds a lap faster too on full boost :angel:
Needs 75l of fuel to do 5 laps mind.....

On the subject of fuel Mark:
Are you planning on leaving the distance as it stands? I make a full tank out at 38 minutes with my setup.

As it's a fun race I'd recommend we either increase the distance to 50-60 mins if we have enough drivers, or shorten it to 30 as per the last race.
Although that would definitely feel wrong with these cars.

Or leave it as is - it would introduce the possibility of multiple strategies again like in the 962 series. (although it would ruin my fast setup :P )

I will have burn 117 liters in 24 laps in my current (slow) pace. So, same things like in holy P962ST times. Dilemma ;).  For FMG with his pace, 120 litres will not be enough if he ( or Fabri) will brings us in 24th lap ;)  They will need an economy, hohoho!  ;D

is 1:42 your regular laptime or a peak qually lap time? I was quite happy banging in regular mid-44's and only using 102L of fuel  ;)  I'm only a tenth or two off in sectors 1 & 3, its the middle sector i'm dropping a whole second  :-\

I think this is a great combo, the only dangerous corner is the (do I take it flat) T1 kink  :o

For some reason I can do only 22 laps and half with full tank.

The race with the 962 was a good battle with 3 cars, from the first corner to the last one. We hope it will be equally fun with the 917.

No, 40 mins. About fuel, just pray.

With a race pace of about 1 min and 43.5 seconds we should make 24 laps.

Il the leader will keep a pace of 1.44 dead there's a chance that we will make only 23 laps, considering the first lap that will be slightly slower than the others.

I'll make some laps later to see what my fuel gauge suggests :D

What a cracking race that was  8). Loved it

Well done to the hairy chested 9 of us that raced  :thumbup1:  those that stayed away, you missed out. This track so suits sportscar racing and old f1   :wub:

Amazingly I qualified a fine 3rd with a new pb  :o

That lasted about 50m at race start when both Matteo and Alexey got past me (seriously need to get my clutch adjusted)  :(
Still, I got back past Alexey on lap 2 or 3 and then re closed on the top 3. They had the edge but I was able to keep about 4 secs behind them for 15 minutes and loving the spectacle of a gaggle of 917’s I action.
Then disaster struck! As I whacked another downshift for the hairpin my gearstick clamp fell off  :'( and as I had a rift on I couldn’t see it  ::) I had no choice but to pull off track and re-fix it. (I blame these balsa wood gearknobs on the 917  ;) )
I lost 35 seconds and two places  :'(
But I put the hammer down rueing my bad luck and re caught first Tudor for a good multi lap dice and then cut 13 secs off Alexey  :o
We had a great tussle for many laps for 3rd place but I overcooked one of the downhill turns and lost 6 secs  ::) but re-closed again for a fantastic fight to the end and a photo finish  :fencing:

I was grinning like a mad man  ;D

Ohh it was one of a hardest challenge for me. Finally, I dont' like this car so much but i love the track and company  :D  In testing,i was found the wings 10 10 10 bring the car most stable and predictable for me. Qualified in 5th and race start was lucky. But i know that my pace is slow and i don't need a close battles here with MarkJ and others faster guys. I've let Matteo correct his mistake , Mark for take his place and just drive, drive, drive. Was done only 3 mistakes with gears. I saw the Mark's heroic evolutions in race, but i've just drive. He begun to fight closely in approx 10 minutes to race finish. It was best moments in race when red lion fighting a blue turtle. It was very interesting to see Red Lion car coming from hell darkness on my mirror closer and closer . It takes me to defend my possible podium  :o ( due Matteo's gearbox was gone and he stopped his race in pits.) Last 10 min of race was a very hard to both MarkJ and me but  i've save my podium in very last meters of distance. :P

eheh, i guess it was a combo for the purist, but i thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. I actually dont think it was that hard to race these cars here, yes you had to focus but it was otherwise great. When i was fighting Tudor and Alexey it was like scenes from the Le Mans movie and the sounds were amazing too. 8)....though not sure if that was a flat 12 snarling or Alexey gnashing his teeth  :laugh:

Just wish there were more of us who loved racing these historic race cars, i'd love to run a proper historics series using these as one class racing amongst a field of gt cars in another class, especially at Le Mans.  :wub: but will probably never happen due to low turnouts.  :'(

If anyone knows of any well attended historics racing servers, let me know  :)

I would definitely have supported this event, but was never going to be available due to visitors pre-booked for 2 Jan.  Shame.  Love this car and this track.  Try the 917K at Riverside International Raceway  :)

Love racing this era of cars especially on historic tracks. I was way off pace and rusty so decided to drive within my limits with the aim of not falling off just retaining my quali position without getting lapped.

Had a few chases but never really felt able to attack and relied on others' mistakes to make places. Enjoyed the little battle with MJ but I was clearly holding him up and wasn't able to put up much of a fight unfortunately.

Congrats to the podium and well done to all who gave it a shot.

Hope to make some races next season but always hit and miss for me.....do we have to declare skins before events or can we just turn up on the night? Never did understand the server situation with AC  ::)

Depends on the event/series. Fun races like these you just turn up and get appointed a skin but regular series we tend to have a pre-picked skin pack that everyone installs (including the server) so you should always get your chosen skin.
Depending on numbers we often have spare slots allocated for turn up on the night drivers but obviously you would only get what skins are left available unless you had previously joined the driver roster.

@Ceolmor, did wonder why more of you historic f1 fans didnt attend a 917 race, same eras same auras  8)

Yes, I agree, these cars are from external cameras really cool, but onbard the driver has less adrenaline, no idea why.
This is probably also a factor for which some players prefer classic-F1s and not these cars (me too). I did some online races (there were also Willian and Mak) with F1 67 on this track, and the adrenaline was much higher. I mean above all the feeling of speed, and partly the reactivity of the car.

About my race, I was simple slower than FMG (and maybe than Matteo too). At last 10 mins I became very tired and I started to do some small mistakes and one big, going to do a run on grass to watch a cow. I lost a ton of seconds for that.
I finished second, having much luck.

Here's the on-board from my Pole lap - fairly sure Alexy or someone had asked for it.
From experience the mistake on the pen-ultimate corner probably cost me 0.1-0.2 secs, which is annoying as I thought I had that corner sussed by then...

Also a thank you to whoever it was that pulled out of my way a little over halfway through the lap  :)
