Practice server is up with some weather variation for your delectation.

Cadwell only has 18 pitboxes so make sure you're signed up nice and early!

Thanks Pete. We have 14 drivers signed up so far, so should be okay re pitboxes  :)

Now temperatures is 15\19.  :o
Mark, please, clarify  admins rule for server sessions temperature management.
I prefer static ( as it was earlier). Please, read server documentation about track\ambient temperatures possible settings first  :)
BTW To set random temperatures is bad way here.

Settings I 'randomly' picked are

BASE_TEMPERATURE_AMBIENT=16
BASE_TEMPERATURE_ROAD=7
VARIATION_AMBIENT=3
VARIATION_ROAD=5

So I read that as track temp is min 18 to max 31, ok this might be quite a large range but the base temps are much more akin to a Spring day here in the UK. If you want today's then I bet track temp is in single figures ;)

I have no particular affinity to these settings so I'm sure everyone can make suggestions and MJ and myself will listen to them. However I can already tell you not everyone's going to be happy.

Practically, any such kind of experinents will not bring good things to most of pilots because it will takes olny a more longer time for practice and measuring PSI. Ppl, just need a build own temperature\ PSI dependency to use it in races. I have no interest to build such kind of headache for pilots here. :-[
Better way here is to make fluctuations 1-2-3 celsius , in GP oficial sessions, not more. ( just for randomizing it in GP race). In practice server it must to be a fixed temperatures ( without fluctuations).

Not having things perfect can also benefit you if you get it better than the competition.

Not sure if it's wise to implement it already on short notice and with reversed grids.

We don’t need to go mad on variance, just a smaller window for temperature variation will do. As a baseline something more akin to spring temps as it looks like we’ve been racing mid summer track temps so far circa 33 degs!  :o no wonder tyres suffered in some series.

OK I've restarted the server with

BASE_TEMPERATURE_AMBIENT=16
BASE_TEMPERATURE_ROAD=7
VARIATION_AMBIENT=0
VARIATION_ROAD=2

So track temp is between 21 and 25. Better?

P.S. Anyone want some wind? Always windy at Castle Combe.

Can we make the races 5 minutes, I keep breaking my gearboxes  :-[.

I've put a setup on stracker. It's the only one I tried, but it's the one I used. There is still time to be found, but I need to pit every 4 laps for a new car  ::)

still, hopefully i'll pass some of your gear cogs later in the race  ;D

'If in doubt, arse out'.
A mantra to live your life to. :angel:

More seriously though, I'd take that with at least a pinch of salt. As with random settings on the server we can't fully compare laps anymore.
However, that setup feels bloody good ;)

I'll have to give Jeffreys setup a go too, as from looking at his lap trace he's taken a totally different route to me.
It's also 5 degrees warmer on his current session, but I'm not sure if that's faster or slower in these....

Ive talked earlier that in week Practice session we do not need temps randomizator at all. We need it only for official wed GP session  :)
Hope it will be fixed by Pete .

Yeah but the temp variance is only going to affect tyre psi a bit, by one or two psi, not really fazing laptimes that much  :-\ at least not by seconds

Careful about that a*se hanging out mantra if you visit certain parts of London  :laugh:

I agree. In my opinion:
practice with a stable temp
qual and race with random temps.

In AC temps have a great effect on laptimes, maybe for speeds and grip. This is not a psi problem; at least I have never cared too much if the temperature varies a little.

I have no idea about your setups (I ve not stracker cause shuttering/fps on my PC). I'm, simple, slow in this kind of cars (like on 250 GTO too)  :)

It's not possible in AC.  :)
Just for whole server launch
In overall i agree- this car and track is more about luck and skill, than temperatures 1-2C  ;D

Temps make a difference to my tires ;)

I don't see any point in having stable temps to practice with, if we than have a random race/qually condition.

At least with a random practice server you can pop on for 20 mins a couple of times before the event to see how your car behaves in different conditions.
If you're really serious you can conceivably adjust your setup to suit the conditions and then save them specifically - and then just pick the right ones on the night.

Or just do what I do - which is set the car up as a rally car so it doesn't matter. (mistake by you there Mark, these cars are supposed to be driven sideways :P )

There is not an open server for practice and than one, with password, for the race day (so qual too)?  ???

In overall i agree- this car and track is more about luck and skill, than temperatures 1-2C  ;D

I probably have not been clear before. I was simply referring to the temp/laptimes.
Lower temperatures make you faster.

We have 2 servers configs- for open practice in week and other server config- for wed official event.
The weather can be set for whole server started, not for each session ( p,q,r).

Open server (practice server) with a stable temp, for having an idea of laptimes.
Race-day server with random temp, there are also some minutes for practices and adjust something.

 ;)

Still a few who havent given me a favoured skin so if i havent heard by late tomorrow day i will assign them myself.

you will be on the driver entry file anyway, so will assign you a skin  :) doesnt look like we attracted any new drivers from Kunos for this series, so 16 racers it is for now. Should fill out the narrow lanes of Lincoln's race track nicely  :o

Time comes with the laps here, more you put in the more time you shave off as its quite a technical lap really. Other than the elite top 4 there is probably the biggest spread of laptimes i've seen for a while.  :-\

Don't lower it as much as possible, don't go fully hard.
Front stiffer than rear (to taste), rear higher than front by a fair amount.
Play with the diff so the car always wants to go sideways.
This will help ensure the car turns no matter the conditions.
The down side is you have to rely on throttle modulation and brake modulation to keep the drift angle down enough to go fast.

Brake bias, front camber and tire pressures to suit your your own driving style.

If i'll overtake any guy here - it will be OK too , i think . Thanks!   :wetfish:

Race day my fellow Alfa-holics  8)

You will all have to be on your best behaviour on a narrow circuit like this, especially on the opening laps. Any punt will send a poor soul off for miles on the grass.
Remember its 2x 20minute races so you can make amends in race 2 if race 1 doesnt go quite to plan  :)

Rally cross event!
Congrats podiums, especially Jeff ! Grip style is rules!  ;)
Unlucky races for me. In first i am slightly hit Stefan,  than wait for him at last position. Sorry Stefan.
In second race i was pumped by guy and drive with severe damaged car. Not sure that rally cross is best in AC  ;D
My favorite rally is Codemasters Great Dirt Rally game!  :)
PS I saw in my vid that this cars has strange contacts behavieur . Very small contact ( 4 points) will cause full car disbalance and go to grass... :-\

Good first two races on a tricky unforgiving track  :)

Turned up not feeling great last night with eye strain from work (always good when about to use a Rift!) but determined not to miss the opening rounds. My practise runs were decent but in qually i completely sucked and struggled to get anywhere near my normal pace. Seeing those ahead get minimum 1:49's, i knew i couldnt get any higher than 'best of the rest' anyway, but i was lucky not to get jumped by someone else putting in a good lap.

Race 1 got a decent start and went side by side with Fabri for half a lap before conceding the tight right at top of the hill. Adrenalin hadnt kicked in yet so i didnt put up a fight despite having the inside line :P
Nobody really challenged from behind so i just chased him hard for 20 minutes but he gradually pulled away. Finished 6th with less close action than i had expected. :-\

Race 2, started mid pack and the action was hot from the start to finish! The 2nd race went in a blink of an eye  :o
Think i had a fight or chase with everyone from 7th downward. It was great seeing 3-5 cars line abreast dicing through the turns  :fencing:  Alas after fighting with Pete and fmg, i got by Pete (just) albeit getting a tap that unsettled the car then just as i regained it, i got a second heftier thump from fmg that put me into the tyre wall  :taz: (prob couldnt avoid my slightly out of shape rear end) so had to rejoin from the back of the field with a crumpled Alfa. But it was great fun fighting my way back up the field and watching other fights ahead. The Rift proved its worth once more when i was able to pick my way through the battles and especially enjoyed getting cleanly past two cars in one corner  ;D
Finally finished 7th.

Grid looked tasty and vintage  8) Well done all that raced, not an easy opener track but looked good clean racing from my cockpit. Congrats to the podium  :thumbup1:

Matt you should report the incident so the offender can be punished (if its clear cut or wasnt un-avoidable). I've said often enough that we shouldnt be having lap 1 contacts when you have the whole race to get past someone.

Well, that was an absolute blast of an opener!
I'm still grinning from the opening lap of Race 1 with Matteo, even though I'd even planned for it I'm kind of gutted he fell off as that was effectively the end of any proper fight for me that race.
That said both Jeffrey and Matteo maintained a high enough pace to mean that I couldn't dare back off or make a mistake, so the entire 20 minutes was still very hard work for me.

Race 2 got off to a much worse start though - Just past the end of the pit lane barrier Jeffrey swerved into me and put me nose first into the barriers.
It's only after the race when I saw the replay that I realised he'd been hit by a blue car I couldn't see.
After this I burnt the white flag to save weight and drove at my absolute hardest, slowly picking off one or two cars a lap for maybe the first 4 laps. Eventually I reached MJ battling another car just after I had passed Fabri.
Their battle had caused a bit of a gap up ahead but was also serving nicely to block the road for me as I didn't dare dive up in/outside either while they were fighting so hard.
They conspired to help me out on about the 2nd lap I was behind when they contacted into Park. This fired MJ left across the grass pretty sideways and looked near certain to spin the other driver into the in-field - So as I already had a better exit from the corner than them I went up the middle ;D
This is where it then got a little messy, as the car I thought was going to spin somehow caught their spin and swerved a bit towards me (I was now almost completely between the drivers by this point) so I jumped a meter or so left to avoid being clobbered.
Unfortunately MJ was returning from the grass under full chat at this point and caught my car. With dirty tires the outcome was pretty certain.
Sorry about that, I had originally intended to go down the middle leaving room for both of you - the avoiding action put paid to that!
The strange thing is that the replay shows me avoiding the other car and contact only occurring between MJ and myself - yet at the time I was convinced due to the force feedback I'd received a bump from the right as well.

After this I managed to make some good ground on Jeffrey who was now only 1 car ahead and struggling a bit. I think he was stuck behind Kai, who I also had a job to get by a lap or 2 later when I caught him.
Once clear and in 3rd I really put my head down - and recorded a new PB that was slightly quicker than my qually effort. But just couldn't catch Jeffrey or Matteo due to their respective pace.

Very good hard and clean racing I thought, although Kai needs to check where his opponents are before moving to block.
Possibly a mistake - but I have one very strong memory of having to swerve and back off to avoid pit-manoeuvring him into a wall, as i was already alongside when he decided to move over.

Anyway, I've also thrown a pair of videos together from race 1.
1st is this opening 2 laps - I've set the camera to watch Fabri as this captures most of the field, most of the time 8)

Then there is the first lap from Race 1, showing how hard Matteo and I were having to work to try and out-do each other! While Jeffrey sat back and waited for us to do something stupid :D

Nice vids FMG,  :) looks tidy close racing from all  8)  Do you mind if i use one on the kunos site to showcase the racing?

ps i dont think i was rejoining from the grass when you clumped me  ;) i got a light hit off Pete as we both entered the tight right side by side which gave me a wobble on the corner exit but then a solid thump off you to send me stage left (but i havent seen the replay yet). :angel: Racing incident anyway.  :-*

You must have have been fired left pretty convincingly - I wouldn't have even considered that move at that part of the track otherwise!

As for the videos, feel free - if it gains us more drivers for the classic/historic series then all the better ;D
