Title: UKGPL Season 34 (2019) 1967 F1 - Montjuïc Park - Jan 13
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on January 07, 2019, 10:48:05 PM +0000
Season 34 Graduates Cup – Round 1 –  Montjuich Park

Welcome to the opening round of the 1967’s Graduates Cup at Montjuich Parque, a street circuit on Montjuich mountain above Barcelona. A twisty tricky circuit, it was the site of the tragic 1975 Spanish Grand Prix. Many drivers felt that the circuit was unsafe, and two time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi withdrew in protest before the start of the race. On lap 26 the Embassy Hill-Lola car of Rolf Stommelen left the track, killing five people. The race was subsequently stopped at half distance and half points awarded, with Jochen Mass being recorded as the winner. Lella Lombardi became the first female driver to score world championship points, taking 0.5 points for 6th place. Formula One never returned to the circuit after the accident.

The registrations for this seasons Graduates Cup are not sufficient to support separate grids. Therefore, both Works & Privateers drivers will participate on the same grid. All drivers have the same tokens allocations. We will, however, run two championships, & separate points will be scored for each. The race will be moderated as a combined grid. Privateers are asked not to hold up a Works driver whilst being lapped, but you may race fairly for track position.

The important difference is that Privateers are permitted one reset with a compulsory Stop & Go (taken within two laps). Although the race setting is “Intermediate” Works drivers are not allowed to take a reset.

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works  / Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Billy Nobrakes
Dave Curtis
Francesco
Pepe Higdon
Phil Thornton
Ricardo Valim da Silva
Dulima

Damn, I suspect the only track record I've held will go tonight...hey ho. Struggling with a cold, so unsure if I'll be there to see it happen. Good luck all.

Unlucky race. Second lap John had a moment at T4 and Clive passed me, but soon after I was on his rear and spun in the wrong direction, while I was waiting for cars audio went high an screen locked. Had to shutdown GPL.  :(
Ciao

More unlucky for me.At first only for 4 gears work(without 5th gear),second the incident between you and John have coused the lost of one wheel also to avoid a contact with the car in front, finnally a freeze of the game.
The problem of only 4 gears is too frequent.I'm not sure 100% but happen with the server of Axel.

Screen freeze around lap 23. Maybe best we avoid this track although I have run several races here without problem.

Thanks to Cookie for providing a server, even though he is not competing in this series.

Had a freeze towards the end of the qually session,  with 6 mins left;  but was fine otherwise for me.

Did have a spot of low framerate around T1 at the start,   but that was short-lived / was the only time & probably more related to my low-end machinery  - and I'm not talking about the Honda! :)

Tough track & tough crowd near me.  Glad I practiced!

Activity band shows a cardio workout, as well as a good 30mins of activity.  So, I reckon that earns a beer...

Congrats all that managed to finish.  It's good to be back!

Cheers,
Dave.

The power of attrition, Part XXVI: Qualified 14th of 15 without ever getting close to a good lap, then finished eighth overall. In the entire race I never overtook in a contested move for position a single car that was still operational. Now that's funny. I do like this track for some perverse reason, even though it clearly should be on the banned-from-competition list.

Sorry Fulvio and anyone else caught up in my opening lap crisis. I was hoping your race wasn't ended because of me. Not sure what happened, my PC suddenly became a stutterfest twice in the 1st few laps resulting in me glancing the barrier and bouncing back across the track. I fully expected either a screenfreeze or a CTD at any moment.

Once we were onto lap 3 it ran as smooth as silk until the end of the race. I'm thinking windows decided to sneak in an update or something.

It became quite a lonely race once the race had settled down, Losing time at an alarming rate to the front 3 but gaining time on Ricardo behind. With about 10 to go it became an exercise in making sure I stayed on the lead lap, I could see Tris and the remainder of the podium showing red on Prib but the distance back meant I could take it reletively easy, I don't think I got within a second of my qualifying time for the whole race.

I really like Montjuic in some strange perverse way. I think it has a great flow once you find the right set up and with plenty of elevation changes makes for an interesting lap. It does seem a little unstable though. I've raced here 3 times and had 1 screen freeze but in all races there have been several others who have had them.

Congrats to the Podium and everyone who managed to get to the end.

Thanks all.

TTFN
John.

At the moment there is no explanation or solution.Anyway i remeber ,for season 33,4 gear at Mexico with the 67,IMS with the 55,fun race Monza10k with 67 and yesterday.
One time only 2 gear with the canam 66 but i don't remeber the track. The problem happen only online.Excluding the 67,seem that the server or the game, read another car compared to that chosen. In the canam 66 exist a car with only 2 gears, like in 55 4 gears.
I wrote Axel server because i noticed this problem mainly when Axel lounch the race. For sure is not a scientific deduction ,is only an attemp to draw attention to the problem.

Fran,
Sorry to hear you have gear box problems. I know it's not the same experience but can you run online OK using paddles for gear changes. At least you would be able to compete.

But seem a problem of Fairshift with the online races.Never tried with the paddle also because i don't know the method to return to the KP+,KP- setting required for the H gear box.I know only the method of tyhe new player but i lose all the information(lap time).

Grats to the podium and those who made it to the finish.

I had an old setup for the Honda that I knew worked very well on this track. Probably not fast enough to win, but certainly good enough to maybe be top 5? So I was hopeful of getting a few points.

A little disappointed to go out so early, when the plan was to run a conservative race and focus on getting to the end. The problem with sim racing is that when you know you are up against fast opposition, and on a circuit where passing opportunities are few, instinct kicks in if you have to make a split second decision when presented with a chance to pass.
That was what happened on Lap 3 when John had issues at the bottom of the hill and clipped the barriers. John was obviously slowed and Fulvio, who was close behind him, had to back off, leaving a big gap on the inside of the corner.
I just had to take the gift of 2 places so early in the race and I nailed the gas to fire the Waza up the inside and past both of them. I suspect that it caught Fulvio unawares when a Honda suddenly flashed past on a part of the track where overtakes are rare.

I think there was an element of warp in the contact, because my somersault over the barriers and back again ripping 2 wheels off in the process did seem a little excessive for a simple nudge from behind. I did run the replay immediately after the incident and I don't blame Fulvio for my exit, just a Racing Incident for me.

Sorry Clive for your early bath, I was aware of your pass, but suddenly I was on your gear box and hit you. I think some warp from my side, I noted a little bit red in Q bar before the start. I haven't replay cause GPL crashed soon after. I don't remember, where I can find server replay?
Ciao

I was confident for this race.
I love Montjuic, it's a track that I always walk in my limit naturally, it fits my style.
the problem is if someone in front of you, it is almost impossible to pass.
only if there is an error, this is how it works in Montjuic, you press the opponent and wait for an error.
But since Tristan never made a mistake, we came, Tristan, me and Greg.
Congratulations to the pilots who went to the end !!!

Very hard race for me !
I was following Eric during the first laps when I spun at the hairpin,
I restarted following Dave (Curtis) when I was disconnected at lap 18 (same happened during qually)

By the way I didn't have enough time to seriously prepare the race. My setup was bad (...just some excuses for my poor race !)
Only one satisfaction : I did more than 50% ...so I could obtain some points for the championship and the team (Black Night Racing always first !)  .

Congratulations to Eric for his first UKGPL race !

Congrats Tristan and Jonny!

That was interesting. I'm glad the slight bump I gave Jonny wasn't catastrophic. I was also a little lucky there was a little space between John and me. I was worried he might hit me when I had to slow for Jonny.

In a way this one was nerve wracking. I was getting a bad frame rate in T1 and this track never allowed me to reach for the keyboard to turn off everything in Prib but distance meter. I could have slowed some to do that but every tenth was important to stay close to the leaders. I may have been able to tail them without the little handicap.

Thanks for letting me race, guys.
