Season 34 PRIVATEERS – Round 4 –  Nurburgring

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Due to the number of registrations for this series we will be splitting into two grids for the rest of the sesaon. All drivers have been allocated to either Works or Privateers. If you don’t know check the link for Driver Lists below. If you have not already voted to join the Privateers championship you will need to do so to see the password. Privateers will use the server UKGPL10 & Works UKGPL4.

The Nordschleife has enjoyed a reputation as a terrifying and merciless route through the Eifel forest. An English journalist who visited the Nordschleife during the opening race on 18 June 1927 concluded “that it seemed as if a reeling, drunken giant had been sent out to determine the route”. The Formula 1 driver Jackie Stewart – a three-time world champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973 – was so impressed by the circuit that he gave it the name it will probably never lose: the Green Hell (Grüne Hölle). Racing and winning on the Nordschleife has always been very special for racing drivers, because the track is one of the most demanding in the world. Tricky corners, treacherous crests, steep inclines and gradients and constantly changing road surfaces demand great skill from the drivers and provides the cars with a very hard test.

Good race for me but I couldn't match the pace and consistency of David and Andreas. I got a great start and managed to get ahead of Eric on the run down to the Südkehre. I then pulled off probably one of my best ever moves to pass Pepe and Dulima into Nordkehre. I spent the next half a lap tucked up behind Billy looking for a way past when he made a mistake at the Karussell and I got through.  I pushed very hard to try to catch David but I made too many mistakes and I was lucky not to damage my car. Everyone finished the race which was great to see. Grats to David and Andreas, that result should close up the championship table.

This has always been the worst of the original tracks for me, my eternal and abiding struggle. If I could hit the GPL Rank benchmark time here --- somehow finding eight seconds --- I'd finally achieve my dream of being rated at a magical zero. Well, I didn't get those eight seconds today. I did practice hard and faithfully. I had a surprisingly good qualifying (5 of 10), but I had a wretched race, spinning and yawing and generally comporting myself like a rookie at the Ring. One day I'll either figure this place out of it will kill me finally and be done with it.

According  to the race result every driver completed 6 laps. Exactly how some of us did that was not such a great achievement. First few laps were  quite good. After briefly occupying P2 I allowed Dave Rainier to pass, no point holding up a team mate who was much quicker. I tried try to defend properly against Phil, until the car bottomed  out in Karrusel. On lap 3 I bent the steering on & it was much harder to get round. Pleased to have finished.

Thank you Billy to let me pass.
I made a better start than Andreas but at the first turn I went out of the track.

After you let me pass, I could follow Andreas with a gap of 3-4 seconds during the first three laps.
From lap 4, I tried to make more pressure on him and to close the gap,   and finally he made a mistake at the end of lap5.

Except the first turn on lap1, I am happy with my race as I was able to run in 8'30 / 8'35 all the laps.
