Title: UKGPL Season 34 (2019) 1955 Grand Prix - Albi - Mar 17
Post by: Phil Thornton on March 08, 2019, 06:25:46 PM +0000
Season 34 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 5 – Albi

The fifth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series takes us to Albi, small town in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France.  Racing first started on the Circuit des Planques in 1933, the pits and startline being on a short straight before the road twisted down into St.Antoine. At St.Juery the cars had to contend with an extreme hairpin bend, followed by a railway level crossing. The 5.531 mile circuit was shortened in 1951 to 1.859 miles, before being closed in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster. Racing resumed at the nearby Aerodrome in 1959 which is the circuit we now know as Albi. The Chicane du Sequestre was introduced in 1988 but we will be using the original layout as raced in 1967.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the 1955 Grand Prix cars will again be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=664&theme=6). Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement. See table below.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

I seem to remember that this was a real challenge last season from a braking point of view.

This would be a good place to have a second brake condition light on the dash.  One that tells you the condition of the brakes on the car behind so that you know if it's safe to turn in front of him!

I will try and shout a warning if my brakes appear not to be as good as yours............................... the horn does not work on my car  ::)

There is an outside chance that I may not make this race as we are booked to see the grandchildren on Sunday, which is around 100 miles away. In theory, we should be back early evening, but...........................................

Hope to be back, but given my run of DNF's it is hardly going to have an impact on the championship  :-\

Do you have Albi in the 55season.ini ?

In igor options does the path to your gpl 55 install fit?

I think he tells you to go through Gem to gpl selecting in Gem mod55, your player for 55, and all your 55 things

If that works when you go through iGor it should work too

Good luck

Everything in GEM is set to 55 I've selected multiplayer and my driver name is displayed in the top right window
I have deleted then reinstalled both the full then the lite version trying one then deleting it then the other but still says track not installed
It works offline?

Sorry if we don't found more help for you :)

Again the problem of the gear, this time i have not cheked before to start from the box and i have found the Lancia with only 4 gear.
obliged to chose a 4 gear car,the Vanwall probably is not the best. With the Lancia i was able to go under 1,26 but with the Vanwall was a succes to go under 1,27.
Sorry Rich for the touch at lap 5 but we was both with red brake.

Sorry francesco, i was out of brakes and tried to avoid you.

I did not have a good gear ratio and was too slow on the straights as well.

Grats to all finishers and thanks to Uli for some great racing  :thumbup1: :thumbup1:

Finally in season 34 I get a clean run in the 55's lol, and what a race that was. Uli's 250F had more speed on the straights but, if I was brave, I could close up any gaps through the corners. If I was close enough to pick up the slipstream there was occasionally the chance of an overtake into Double D  ;). but everything was right on the limit for lap after lap in the Connaught.

Once or twice a small error from me allowed Uli to extend the gap so I had to concentrate really hard and slowly catch him again. Then with maybe 12 laps to go I started to really push and look for a pass. With 10 laps to go Uli went just a fraction too deep into the final turn...... and I was so focused on his tailpipes that I almost followed him onto the grass  :scared:. but I just managed to throw the car sideways and get enough opp lock on to avoid joining the 250F.

I had 1st place but I knew that Uli would be fast on the straights and I did not want to help him with my slipstream  ::), so for the next 3 laps I simply went as fast as I could, until I suspect that he made a small error and the gap suddenly grew. With a nice safety cushion I could ease off just a fraction and bring the car to the flag, watching Uli slowly close the gap, but not fast enough to worry me provided that I did not make a mistake.

Well done Evil, Uli and Fulvio!

I didn't get off the line very well and had the same problem with Fulvio's Ferrari as Evil did with Uli's Maserati.  But Fulvio hardly put a foot wrong.
Bastian was able to pass me on the main straight on lap one and he somehow also passed Fulvio.  (Correction: Bastian beat me off the line and Fulvio sailed past on the straight.)

Bastian eventually had a grassy moment that allowed Fulvio and me to pass but my efforts to get close to Fulvio onto the straight ended up with my making a mess of T1 and dropping back to finish 4th.

I never felt that I had the brakes to do anything about Fulvio so was just hoping for an error on his part but, as I have already said, he was too good for that.

I think that I finished each lap with absolutely zero brakes!

See you in Ireland.

do any of the 55 cars have better or worst brakes than another or are they all crap? ;D

I think it would be correct to say that none of the cars have brakes that are "good". It might be more accurate to say that it is how different drivers manage the brakes that makes the difference.

Personally, I discovered that after many years wrestling with all the other GPL cars, I had got into the habit of balancing a car on the brake and gas through corners. Now, that works fine when you have infinite brakes, but it is suicidal in the 55 mod  :-\
I was not even conscious of what I was doing wrong in the early days of the 55's and I just could not understand why the brake light was permanently red..it just never recovered like the handbook said it should??

It was not until I put my left foot ( I left foot brake) under my chair, only bringing it out for the corners I considered critical that things improved. As you have probably discovered, going off the track is expensive in terms of time and places, so ensuring that you actually make the corner entry is imperative... after that it is simples  ::)

I think that the Gordini is worse than the others.

You may also find that the heavy cars take more stopping!

Just been doing some laps at Dundrod which isn't to bad for brakes if you know where to lift and coast but a long circuit and fast so its easy to get it wrong and no runoff  so ultimately fetal,
eek!! :o
Will we be using the 50's layout?

Congrats Clive!
I didn't find my expected racespeed – had too much to look in the mirrors ;)
Great driving Clive. Lap for lap close behind me, never got in touch or troubles. Always fair and waiting on my fault – that's really great driving. And my fault comes 8 laps to go, when I want to lap Rich, he spins in front of me I was a bit irritated and lost my breaking point.
Great driving GRATS again, big hand to you.

Afaik Fran has a problem with his shifter software,
I suspect he is missing some software to run the drivers properly, e.g a special version of .net or vcredist384/64

I was just thinking that if the shifter software is using the car data from the wrong mod, it might simplify matters if it only had one option?

I think that the problem is due to Fairshift program. With this program also other gamers have had the problem with the highest gear but no one know the solution. One time, with the CA66 mod,i was able to race with a car with only 2 gears(the Lola t70 427 if i'm not wrong)with more gears was impossible. In this case seem that chose a wrong car inside the mod.

I think that the problem is due to Fairshift program...

That program just ensures that your shifts take the same amount of time as everyone else, right?

If it's causing such issues, just stop using it.

Anyone here claiming you'd get an advantage from a 0.2s difference in shifting will receive a serious side-eye from me.

My wheel and pedals are Fanatec, the gear box is Trushtmaster. Until now i was able to play only with Fairshift and not with gplshift.
