The server page now lets us set a handicap for people, and a weight handicap for a car, up to 100kg
Perhaps the Nissan would be ok with the extra weight?

I have set up the practice server with 100kg ballast for the Nissan, probably too much, but if anyone fancies
giving it a whirl shout up what you think.

Ok I gave it a whirl..

I'm about 8 tenths slower in the Nissan on the server with the ballast, compared to offline practice without ballast. Interestingly, my ballasted time is about the same as my times in the Audi V8, and in the Volvo, but in the Merc 190 I'm about half a second quicker here. I didn't try any other cars.

We probably need more data, and other ppl making some times, but to me the Skyline without ballast is a few tenths ahead of the Merc (and probably Omega and BMW M3 too, though I haven't tried those), and with ballast it is back in the middle of the pack. That would seem to be a good result, except that the Skyline has awful tyre wear and will probably drop further back as the race goes on - I guess we need to try it in the race itself to see how that pans out..

Ok, Thanks for the test. I don't like it because to me, it doesn't "feel" right
But when we first ran these cars it whupped everything, so the ballast might
make it about right. It is available for the race if anyone want to use it (with ballast)

Ok. I would ordinarily have taken the Audi in these races, but I might try the Nissan here just to see how it goes.

Also, these two car sets are among the few in the game that are still on the very old physics, and have a big upgrade coming in the pipeline (hopefully soon), that will improve the feel of all the cars I'm sure. I think in addition to the new physics, the intention is to also redo the balancing between these groups, so the new version will have closer BOP within each group (so no need for any ballast), but will also push the two groups further apart making it less likely that we will be able to run them together. No mention yet when this will be released however.

How your Beemer time compares to your Nissan time would a great help  :)
My time in either will not be the same as yours for some bizzare reason  ::)

ok did a few laps online BMW 1:27.900
Nissan 1:29.300

the nissan feels heavy and on the brakes feel like pulling up a 10 ton lorry :)

Thanks John. I did a few laps, and my times were about 1/2 sec slower in the Nissan than the Volvo
(which might not be a quick car here for me.) I will reduce the ballast, and see what happens if
anyone is brave enough to race it

I think it's all track dependent. Laguna is a tight track where the Nissan maybe has less of an advantage over the other cars.

I just had a couple of flying laps around Road America in all four Touring Classics cars (with no ballast) and the times were interesting.

The M3 was slowest by a few tenths with the 635 and Nissan both quicker and about equal in times.

Quickest of all by a few tenths was the Volvo.

The Nissan and Volvo were around 10mph quicker at the ends of the long straights.

Compared to the Nissan, the Volvo was better on the brakes but slightly slower out of the corners until the turbo came on boost and was generally a bit trickier to drive.

I still get the feeling that the Nissan would be the stronger of the four cars to race with on most tracks (which I believe is how things were back in the day).

I didn't think the ballast needed much adjustment (if any) but we'll see. The main problem is getting the tyres to last - pretty high risk I'm going to get a right front puncture before the end..  :)

The ballast is currently 75kg, if that is not enough, we can increase it for the next event.

Congrats to podium and Matt for organising the race. Had busy day and didn’t feel like racing but logged on OK and gave it a go. Shocked, I put in a PB on race fuel but the race was a disaster I gave it to much welly out of a corner lost it and hit the wall crumping the near side bonnet. Went straight on at the next corner and put an even bigger one on the off side! Decided the car was more knackered than me and quit.  :surrender:

Fun to drive the Skyline again and an interesting experiment, but not one I will likely want to repeat. The 26.2 laptime is bogus because I think I got a big cut on my fastest lap, but mid 26 legal times are well within reach which was miles quicker than the other cars - and this at a track that doesn't favour the Skyline, as GT says. But that tyre wear was brutal, and after getting behind Geoff I was just trying to survive. Predicted RF puncture happened after 23 minutes..

Needs more ballast to reduce the laptime (probably more than 100Kg), but that will likely hurt the tyre wear even further, so not really much fun to drive it with other cars atm. Hopefully the scheduled physics update for these cars will resolve these issues, but until then I'll go back to my beloved Audi!

Congrats Geoff and podium.

I dont know what happened i just could not do the times from practice earlier in the week and the more i fiddled the worse it got!
Well done Geoff on the win another 10 second lead over the line, might have to go back to the mustang  ;D
Looks like i will have to spend a little time on the BM or bin it
well done Pete on 3rd and the fastest lap (apart from Frex one which was quicker)  :-[

till the next one!

No practice, and being late to the server, made my think it was going to be a lonely race but it wasn't too bad. Had a good battle with JP for half the 1st lap and settled in to following him. Dieter quickly caught up and a small mistake allowed him a run. Was never going to keep the position if I survived that battle so let him go. Sadly a few laps later another couple of small errors meant I dropped back a bit further, however a clean lap keep my in sight of John so that gave me hope and something to concentrate on. After that puncture I caught John, but another mistake and I was 2 secs behind again. I guess the heavier Beamer might have had more tyre wear and I got close again at the end but never with enough pace to mount an attack.

My front right hand tyre was yellow after 20 mins but survived to the end without going orange or flashing at me, although I reckon it must have been close.

The small errors I keep making are my own doing but I do enjoy these so much more than the modern GT3's etc with all their aero. After not really liking GTL I never expected to be saying that!

Same here Pete, I find these probably the most enjoyable cars to drive in RRE, they go where you want them to & have a decent amount of power & grip. I always seem to be fighting understeer in the modern stuff, guess GTL setup methods don't really work with cars that don't slide.

Didn't get any practice for this except for a few laps before joining the server. Initially could not get the Omega below mid 1.28, but a couple of setup tweaks & moving braking a couple of notches to the rear helped the car turn better & I got into the 1.27s.

Finally got a half decent start & took the lead, gradually opened a bit of a gap to John, but then Frex got into 2nd place & started to close in. Gap came down to under 2s & then hovered between 2 &4s for several laps until suddenly I was 8s ahead of John. Thought Frex had made a mistake, didn't realise he had blown a tyre  :o. So finished 9s to the good at the flag.

Like to think I am getting the hang of these cars, but it's really the car that is making the difference!

Congrats to John & Pete  , bad luck to those that didn't make the finish.
