Several people mooted this car as great for a close racing series. I was initially sceptical as thought i would find it boring but its actually quite feisty and fun. This is a test race to gauge peoples interest and how the cars race in close action in lieu of possibly running a series.
The following week i will run another test race using the Cayman GT4's for further feedback.

Roll up and enjoy  :)

Practice server up, I looked at the temperature at Vallelunga so expect higher temps than you've had recently  :fencing:

MX-5 is ok for racing but it's 100% boring car...just a piece of metal without soul.

Sorry Mark, but thinking twice, i will not join MX5 Cup series because this modern series car has  H shifter, which i tired from in classic series, having loose time in every upshift using paddles and  used -1 gears in some tracks to minimize it. I will think to join to modern series if we will use modern cars with paddles.
Will see on Caiman GT4   or may be some ultramodern supercars?
Anyway thanks for  your research  :)

I’m with you on that  ;D but hopefully it’s good for racing  :smartass:

Alexey you were one of the guys who suggested this car!

Anyway, it’s a test race not a guaranteed series, so just all turn Up and have fun  :)

Yes Mark, but i more thinked about UKAC pilots racing here  ( this car is very popular in leagues due ability to making long close battles)
But now i thinking about my own racing soul  ;D

Thanks Mark for organizing those test races to see which car will be most suited for the next series.
I'll skip this one tho, don't have the DLC (in fact this is the only DLC from AC I didn't buy, but those japanese cars just aren't appealing to me :D )

Had an AI race at Silverstone National with these and they are surprisingly good to drive, should provide some good close racing. Maybe a heavy success ballast system to keep things interesting?

so if you had a h-shifter you would race it?  (looks at spare shifter...)

Japanese Pack DLC is £2.09, you can't use that as an excuse  :P

....

I'll try and be there, planning on shifting my game rig to another room in the next few days for extra space but it *should* be back together by then.  No objection to some MX5 cup here, and I *might* have a buddy I can persuade to join too

just had my first proper go in these. First lap or two I thought 'yawn' but once you start ringing its neck a bit more and throwing it into corners it becomes a bit more fun  :P

i was about to say this car doesnt seem to be generating much interest with only 6 of us posting a laptime  tumbleweed but i think this site has generally flat-lined  :(

At least Max is showing some enthusiasm banging in 30 laps to set the pace with a 1:51  :o  Not sure the car grabs me enough to want to do many laps practise with it  :-\  think the racing will be far more fun....if enough turn up to race.

I was just playing around testing what various setup changes do to the feel. Its amazing I have 1500 hours in AC and yet many cars I have only driven briefly and don't have setups for nor understand how to get the best out of...

For the Mazda,  start with TC off if you want to have any fun in it, put some more air in the tyres(esp right side) and maybe give the front end a bit more bite with a bit more toe out :)

BTW vrmx is a buddy of mine,  trying to get him to come race too one of these days...

Bluddy 'ell Max - I was avoiding practising hard as I need all my efforts for the next GPL67 round.
Drifting Thompson road in it's entirety for 45 mins should be fun :D

Mark, are you ready for contacts fight?  ;D
BTW as i seen in practice , track conditions was some cold for this tyres. To rise temps to standart 26\37 will be spot on for 40 minutes races here , IMHO  :)

You can't just go changing weather conditions to get the right tyre temperatures, I saw MX5s racing at Castle Combe Easter Monday and, although he were having a mini heatware, the temps weren't as high as you'd like  :P

I did up the temperatures from those being run for the last 2 series, you should be getting a track temp between 29 and 33 C.

Well that was sadly disappointing  :( only 6 drivers turned up and 3 of them left within 10mins of the race.
I chased after Alex for another 5 mins then pulled over and quit, not willing to waste more time hotlapping in a not very exciting car.
Shame as the car is fun for racing in a group but with low grids and gaps it lacks adrenaline.

There were 7 of us not 6 :P

Messed up the start when I got told I had a drive through penalty and was still thinking about it at the hairpin when I failed to catch a tank slapper. Not sure why but Shark seemed to start from the pits and with being dead slow I thought I'd wait for him to catch up, race him a bit and after he was passed give up. Bob had other ideas. I guess he fell off so suddenly I had caught him up, however he was quicker than me generally but another mistake got me on his tail. I was right under his rear bumper when we had a light contact. Sadly this set him off in to an uncontrollable tank slapper. I wait for him, by which time Shark had gone passed. Chased Bob for another lap or so until his engine incident, disappointing as I never saw any smoke. Too far behind Shark who was lapping quicker than me any way so I bailed.

I guess I really suck at these as I'm way off the pace.

This car needs to heat up a tyres for first 3 laps , otherwise it can bring a bad surprise with slip away  under clear sky, like a Bob done . It's just because i've wobble in first laps where i can, not for disturbing any guy and because its a fun race  :)
What PSI had a Max or FMG? 27 hot, like i am, or higher ?

What car will be next for fun test?

26 hot here

I had a bad start to the race hitting the money shift going for 3rd gear, allowing Alexey past.  By the time I recovered to 2nd place fmg was gone,  luckily after a couple of laps he decided to slow up and wait so we could have a proper fight  :thumbup2:, and a good one it was.  Somehow I got the lead and even managed to open the gap ever so slightly running consecutive 51.6 laps  :o.  I was thinking I need to let him back through on the last lap as the win should have been his, then I saved myself the trouble as I managed to throw myself off the track in the last turn of the penultimate lap and ended up a good way back

Shame about the low turnout, its actually a fun car and could give very close racing...

well thats the crux of the problem, if we cant get 15 cars to race then its a non-event before its begun  :'(  Cars like these (and the Alfas) need to be in close battle with other cars for the fun factor. Once they spread out or have issues it can quickly become dull unless the car in itself is exciting to drive.

I probably should have chosen a more compact clubmens type track for these cars as a longer lap just exasperates the low turnout problem. :-\  but as hardly anyone turned up to try them its irrelevant anyway.

Next week i was thinking Cayman GT4's at the Nurburgring GP or Caterhams at Brands Hatch  :fencing:  shout up your preferences below, i'm happy to try both over the next couple of weeks.  :)

True that, cruising alone with underpowered car is boring but anything +500hp (or let's say+800hp to be safe) car should keep things intresting, even if rest of the pack is far ahead...

I'd say try both and see which gets most attention, hopefully for caterham you're thinking of https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/caterham-420r-race.23519/ ?  fast enough to be fun without being overpowered and potentially scaring some off (and its easy enough to make a proper manual version from that if thats preferred)
