Being as I am going to the Spa Classic in a weeks time, I thought it would be cool to have a race there using some prime historic racers  :)

Fill yer boots  :P

Sounds good, can we fill our boots with helium and go faster or is that not allowed  :P

your lucky, i was going to make you and FMG drive around in old 906's so that the rest of us can keep up  ;) ;D

A short tail 906-8 will do nicely (Should be faster at modern Spa than the long tail 908)
Sadly there is no decent 906 available :(

I'll take a GT40 for this I think, as last time we did an event like this at VIR I drove the Pork

Nice to get some positive feedback for a change

I'm going to take a GT40 i think. Have never driven it around Spa and its nice to have a track to give it some proper gas.  :)  Hope there are some 908's too though to mix it up.

One thing i havent checked yet is whether either car needs to pitstop. I would like to make a mandatory stop as it adds to the spice and drama but depends if it adds or detracts from the strategy element. If someone has the time today, can you check the fuel capacity for both cars? I'm stuck at work  :(  We could use a fuel multiplier so that a stop is needed.  :-\

The 908 should be lighter on its tyres and better on fuel economy versus the gt40's brute power advantage.

You have two weeks to practise so no excuses this time  ;)

any chance we can have this running on the server? I know its 2 weeks off but good to encourage people to get some laps in and may even encourage new drivers who try it and like the combo.  :)

2:40 for me so far in the GT40.  60litres would cover a 40min race. Not tried the 908 yet.

Pitstop - yay or nay?  :walkman:

Perhaps a better question is would there be enough takers and interest to warrant a 1 hour special?
That way it might balance out on its own.

I initially thought of making it an hour long race with a mandatory stop, then remembered not so many race lately  :'(

How about stating your intention to race below? in our better seasons/races knowing others were intending to race seemed to encourage more to put the effort in. I'll start  ;)

FMG
Max

I tested the 908.
It's faster than GT40 and consumes less fuel. But we already knew these things from the Kyalami prototype race.

In any case, 2.37 easy and 50 liters (16 laps). Fuel capacity 120 liters.

I've crept into the 39's now  :) enjoying the combo. Sure i'd be quicker in a 908 but the GT40 is iconic.

RSR time is 37.5. Don't know how. :)
I am too slow in this cars. "Iconic car" for me is not the "Favorite car"  ;D.
This days i am busy in correcting my cockpit to put H-Shifter TM TH8A,   ( great gift from my english friend). Slightly modding it in way.  I have no words to say how i love it. :) Not only because amazing gift i've recieved ( it's like a miracle!), but how this device established by design, engeneering and electronics! It's ideal device in mass market. Still can't believe that it was made by Thrustmaster  ;D

Thats the same shifter i use.  :) Feels so much better for historics racing.  I've been tempted for a while to get the Fanatec shift, but that is a beast of kit that needs properly mounting somewhere, but love its chunky sequential.  I'm thinking of replacing my Playseat setup for something new and better, but not sure what. Its served me well for years. Any ideas?

Im pretty certain FMG or Max will get the GT40 into the 37's if i can manage 39's  :P  Cant wait to see these beasts in action at the Spa Classic this weekend  :)

I have 20+ years old computer table, containing flightsims rig ( when all sims beguns  for me in PC) and racing sim rig . Uni rig  is my choice here.
Not dreaming about other, full satisfied.  ;)
Did you looked good oak in the nearby forest?  ;D

If to be serious, for now , all good simmers should go to Direct Drive wheels and VR. From this point will build all other things, including seat, metal constuction, monitors and so on. Its all available now. Money question...

Well, I've spent a little over an hour in each car today, and am not so much amazed by the Porsche being fastest (the design is a good 5 years newer than the GT40, so it should be on a 'short' track) but by where it's faster.
The Porsche simply destroys the big Ford under acceleration (really not expected) and top speed, and then brakes much later just to really rub it in.
Really strangely however, the GT40 is actually the fastest car through the bends - especially high speed corners...

The times on S-tracker are pretty much right, the Pork should drop into the high 2:35's with a good lap (I kept nearly doing it and then messing up), while the Ford might go as low as a 2:36.5 on the race setup, it should get much closer to 2:35's in qually trim with the rev limit removed.

Driving wise the Porsche is just a joy to throw around, in the slower stuff you just trail brake into a corner, find the angle you want, and then power out in a beautiful easy slide. In the higher speed sections it isn't so great - I've improved the understeer a bit but still have no choice other than to just wait before I can accelerate ::)
The Ford on the other hand is very clumsy. If you drive it in a modern grip style then you'll be lucky to get into the 2:38's, ALL of it's pace is found through 4 wheel drift. And thanks to the open diff and all that torque, it really isn't very user friendly over the hill at Eau Rouge or through the slow hairpins at Bruxelles and La Source, or especially in the chicane onto the S/F straight. And then there are the brakes - truly woeful, It's impossible to lock a wheel unless you unload it first - which is very easy to do entering Double Gauche and then causes you to miss the first apex by about half a track width :D

All comments above are based on my 30ltr test/race setups, I expect the Ford to get a slight advantage under full race fuel loads as it has the added torque to shift the weight. Ford best lap still had about 15ltrs in the tank, Porsche ran out of fuel just after crossing the line for it's fastest....

Should be a good fun race on Weds 8)

Some days ago i've done 15-16 laps of practice in GT40 in setup findings. And it was no one valid lap. If i've passed a red water , i'll take a cut in any other turn   ;D
It's impossible for me to love this cars, but i've really tryed. :P

Just got back from Spa. :) Sorry to hear there is such a noticeable gap between the two cars, I thought they were meant to be similar pace wise based on feedback from here before  :-\
But seriously just take the car you want to race with, it’s a non-championship race. Hopefully we will get a handful of each  :)

Don't compare your lap with the server best as that's the Pork - which is faster on the straights.
Doing a direct comparison against my GT40 best shows you have the same straight line speed but are both getting worse exits, and carrying less speed through the turns :)

I've been busy in GPL so haven't been on the server for a few days - has anyone sorted Mike yet?

i have same tyre pressures and gear ratio. I keep trying different toe and brake bias settings but i'm not going any quicker.  :(  i put a tad more neg camber as tyres weren't showing any inside heat over rest of the tyre. I tried being more aggressive driving style throwing into corners for drifts but i seem to be quicker by being smoother and having less moments. Looking at amount of times on stracker, most take the 908 for an easier drive but i'm sticking with the beast of a GT40.  Would like to try a good setup for it if someone wants to share.

@miner, stracker is a very useful app to have installed. It gives you a decent leaderboard in the race and allows you to exchange setups in the pit garage or chat etc.

I've only changed my diff settings for now, I think my lack of speed is driver related, I've not had the game long and have mainly been driving the 98T at various tracks.

OK thanks. I'll have a look later.

For a leaderboard I'll go with a piece of paper with my name at the bottom :)

@miner, latest version of the App here:-
https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/stracker.3510/ (https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/stracker.3510/)

it doesnt just act as a leaderboard, it gives gaps + or - to the other drivers and has a fuel counter at top. If someone shares a setup you can double click at the top of the leaderboard and another menu opens up that allows you to grab the setup.  :)

GT40 hardly has any setup options worth mentioning.
I'm running the shorter gearset, tires aren't 30 all round - but as I drift that's hardly a suprise!
Brake bias is entirely personal, nothing else let is there?

All was going well, had a reasonable pace and wasn't making the usual blunders, apart from getting the fuel usage way wrong. Had to slow right down with 9 mins to go and tried to limp home. Ran out of fuel on start finish straight with one lap to go. Shame about low numbers a good combo.

Title: Re: UKAC Season 14 - Spa Classic - May 22
Post by: Mark J on May 22, 2019, 09:46:49 PM +0100
that was great fun, a brilliant way to end my Spa Classic adventure week

Didn't let the low numbers bother me, just had a race long chase/fight with Stefans 908 for the first 20minutes, then a duel with Bobs GT40 for another 10mins and then the final 10 chasing Stefan down again, albeit with a  bit more margin than the first fight, great stuff   :thumbup1:
I was really enjoying hussling the GT40 around and only had one minor wobble under braking at Les Combes that allowed Bob past but enjoyed battling him to get my place back. The cars looked ace on this amazing circuit.

Well done all that raced and finished, top work gents, hope you had as good a race as I   I was drenched in sweat at the end (though could be all the Belgian beer oozing out)

if any of you have ever thought of going to that event, do it !  Its brilliant seeing GT40's, Bizzarinis, 917's, 908's Lolas etc hammering around such a cool track and you get close access all over the place. I could even stroke the cars  ;D I walked 32km in two days and saw every corner of the track for plenty of the action day and night. if this was a more media friendly site i'd share some of my vids.

I'm not here next week but when i return we can have a Lauda tribute F1 race at the Green Hell  :notworthy:

 :w00t:

Back to tonight's event,  it that was fun even if I got my ass kicked - that GT40 is just plain difficult  :P

I spent practice testing several setup changes and thought it felt better, but my qually was lame and I didn't really nail a lap. The race wasn't so bad, I expected Fabri and FMG to disappear into the distance but I held on quite well the first few laps till I made a mistake braking into campus and almost threw it into the kitty litter. I just stayed on track and recovered but lost ~5 secs in the process. The gap slowly opened out but mid race the car came to me and I started to bang in some decent laps, even slowly catching the 2 in front for a while with a PB lap of 2:36.4,  why didn't I do that in qually!!
Then FMG threw it off the road with some help from his errant wheel, and I was in 2nd.  A lap or so later there was suddenly a porsche in front of me and I thought Fabri had made a mistake, then half a lap later it went into the litter at campus and for a short while I thought I had the lead. That kinda distracted me and I lost my rhythym a bit, then when I got to the S/F line I realised it was backmarker and fabri was still 10s up the road..  doh!

After that there was only 2-3 laps to go and not much happened really, just trying to keep it on the track.

Congrats to Fabri, unlucky to FMG (no idea if this helps but a while back I had some windows update which borked my wheel and it started disconnecting after a random time, I think it was USB related.)

Congrats Fabri and podium!  I am happy - i finished the race!  ;D
Guys, please , any advice for clutch pedal tune?  i have no dead zone in axle begins  and it was mistake- i've slightly press it errornesly some time .. IMHO i need 20 dead zone in axle begins and 35 percents in axle ends ( CM options).  How are using this ranges? I know that all pedals are different, but may be it tuned this way ( using deadzones?)

I like 10% start - 65% end in AC axis settings, feels much more real to me

Jolly good race lads! Even though not to many drivers around and cars being not on the exact same pace, it turned out to be good racing ultimately. Had some setup time on sunday on the 908 and it was very nice to drive.

Altough running a Lauda tribute on the Ring would be appropriate, it will be quite hard too. I am up for it, but perhaps to select another track from the '76 roster?

Monaco?  ;D  but i think the Grune Holle would be great fun, just have to drive it at 8/10ths. :)

We got 9 drivers last night, not too bad as that seems the sad average no matter what we race nowadays sadly.

I don't think Monaco is any easier, just as likely to wipe out on a barrier somewhere. Might be worth reducing damage a bit for this 1 off event if running somewhere really hard.

BTW there is a practice server up, might be wrong version of the Nordschleife tho'

Buhahaha, brothers!   Really Buhahahaha!  ;D :o  Laugh at me guys, I deserve it!
Short story like a joke! While practicing on a machine, having recently installed an excellent shifter, I began to use it and learn again. So, in driving, i noticed the strangeness in the "car": Sometimes, about once out of five, after downshifting, in 3-4 seconds! noticed a delayed kick of the moment, as if a delayed machine releases the clutch. I think what a car such a shit! Where is the code in the physics of kunos ?I dont see it before!  Well, I think they laid some strange real option by an unknown for me method. :o ;D So i was tormented, i was waiting for this kick, and i didn’t have much time for analyzing the telemetry. And today, after having suffered in the race and as usual, I began to watch the my onboard video. And I saw that  pedals app in these cases, shows the clutch pedal is fully fully pressed for another 3-4 seconds after its physical release!  :o Hence the kick to my ass, being uncontrollable this 4 seconds!! Opened the pedals and found the reason  8) I assembled a separate USB controller on the pedals, their two axes (gas and brake) received a signal from the magneto resistors chips, but the clutch channel from the hall-sensor chip  ( i have no magnetoresistors for it but have a hall sensor brilliant chip). And it turned out that it often happened that when the pedal was short pressed to the floor, and than released , it continued to give a signal like a pedal was still the fully presses  for another 3-4 seconds (it was in Hall sensor chip saturation!), And then let the singal go back to normal !!!) ))) Hahahaha! It turned out that he had such a feature in the work on the high-resistance load of the controller input! After connecting an additional load resistor to the sensor, everything returned to normal! I hope that such tricks will not happen again! Well, can you laugh? I’ve already cursed all these days on the car ))) And was thinking that these cars are worst i ever see in AC!  Really funny story, guys  ;D
I love you all, racing maniacs!  :P

hmm,  if you're gonna sissy out of the Nords then the only option has to be historic Austria.

Also as there's 2 weeks to go, it can't hurt to put a post in the AC forums league section advertising it to see if the grid could fill up a bit?

New game, new wheel and pedals, new cars .... blah blah blah. Those are my excuses :).

Quite a lonely run after I spun out of the bus stop that isn't a bus stop. I was more concerned with not hitting anyone as we were two wide. After that I never got back in touch with anyone again. I pegged the gap for a few laps but then I started playing around with the apps and the leaderboard etc and lost concentration which caused a few grass cutting trips and I ended up damaging the car. By the end it was quite poorly and had yellow damage just about everywhere but managed to limp home.

Still, I enjoyed my first AC race and will soon be up to the normal lightning speed I show in GPL :)

I never got the car to slide the way I wanted it to, i.e. under control, so whenever it was sliding I had a mild panic and that compromised any speed I may have found.

I would hope to see some others around my pace or it could be a series of online practice runs rather than races.

I didn't use stracker as it was asking me to edit files I don't have. I don't use Content Manager either, not sure if that matters.

dont normally have to edit any files to get stracker running  ??? Just install it to the python/apps folder in the game directory. Strange.

There is normally a decent spread of talent from uber to tail gunner but with the lowered attendances now thats not happening as much.

Re the Lauda tribute, yes we could use the Osterreichring that we used for the 917's a short while ago, that would fit well. Personally i'd prefer to try and conquer the Ring in the F312 but dont want to deter too many racers (like thats an issue lately  :D )

I'm sure I'm the exception but I'm more likely to attempt the Ring than elsewhere, it's it's own challenge  :o

However considering the reason I'll tag along at the back where ever.

Be sure- you 'll have a good challenge and fun time with Assetto Corsa cars and tracks!
It will not be too late but enjoible to know  its physics and have fun, since I’m sure that life of the AС will not end with the releases of new products from Kunos . AC is a great simulator  :thumbup1:

Regarding Niki Lauda memorial race i will agree with all choices, but with biggest fun i'd prefer NS race due love this track and will happy to refresh how it feels  :)
