Title: UKGPL Season 34 (2019) 1966 F1 - Sachsenring - May 28 Post by: Rainier on May 27, 2019, 08:05:45 AM +0100 Season 34 Historic Trophy – Round 9 – SACHSENRING
The 9th race in the 1966 Grand Prix series takes us to the Sachsenring. The Sachsenring is a long and terrifying street circuit in former East-Germany that so epitomizes the 1960s Grand Prix scene. The first race here was held on 26 May 1927 on an 8.7 km (5.4 mile) layout on public roads, running also through the village of Hohenstein-Ernstthal itself. It was dubbed "Sachsenring" in 1937. This track is slightly wider than Schottenring but just as dangerous and no easier to pass on. There are lots of undulations and slipstreaming straights so it is going to be tough on the low powered cars. Please take your time trying to overtake, it will be very difficult for following drivers to avoid any wreckage that may be littering the track. Race List = iGOR Server = UKGPL_8 IP = see iGOR Race date = Tuesday 28-05-2019 Time = 21:00 UK time Track = Sachsenring (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Tracks/Sachsr67/sachsr67.zip) Race length = 17 Laps (<50 minutes) Variant = 1966 Password: see above (#post_event_password) Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=667&theme=6) 60fps patch used = 60fpsV2newmod Damage Model = Pro Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes Replays = https://www.sendspace.com/file/1cwnwf There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place. The chassis token system is explained on the Historics Trophy standings page. Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race. Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero. The chassis a driver uses in qualifying are disregarded when determining his token spend. Note: This is to cater for the instances when a driver either does not start or inadvertently joins with the wrong chassis and subsequently rejoins the server in another. Any tokens not spent at the end of the season are ignored and are not used to determine championship positions in the event of a tie. PRO rules means Shift-Rs are not allowed at any time and the damage model is realistic. Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score. Available Tokens: Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Rather lucky to get 3rd spot, mainly thanks to Andreas who allowed me to nurse my 3 wheeled BRM for the final half lap. Thank you for being a gentleman Andreas, although I would not have complained if you had taken the champagne yourself. I think it was a "racing incident" that removed my wheel. I was a little quicker than you through that dip at the bottom of the long hill and was hoping to carry more speed through there and pass you on the next straight. But just as I stepped on the gas you went into a slide. It was too late too brake and I thought that I might just squeeze through on the outside...…..computer said NO!! and the contact sent me into the fence, which removed one of my wheels :-\. My only thought was to get the car to the flag and collect some points, hopefully before Fran caught me and took another place away. I had done zero practice for this race as I had been away for the weekend with my family. It took me all of practice and a good few laps of the race to find my groove around this track again. Slowly my times improved and I climbed up the list. Then, I got too brave ( stupid!) and wondered if I could take that horrible dip and crest on the back straight without lifting. 1st attempt went horribly wrong, but the car was still driveable, so still convinced that I could do it...I tried again and failed again. But car was still driveable :o. I was dumb enough to still be in a safe 3rd spot and think about trying yet again???!!!......with the same results lol. Which is when Andreas caught and re-passed me with about 3 laps to go. I had lost loads of time trying the impossible and I might have closed on the leaders if I had concentrated properly? Who knows??? A FL and PB closed the gap, and it was going to be a last lap race for 3rd spot when we had our "incident". Grats to all those who completed this car killer of a track. I also won Mosport last season. My BT19 was well set up and it allowed me to follow Ziu with its 2,4 L Ferrari until lap 15 when I did a big mistake and lost around 15 sec. Unfortunately for Ziu, he blowed its engine and I could re-join it and overtook him just on the finish line. Grats to Ziu for his great race and grats to all finishers on such a difficult track. Always consistent and you make very few mistakes, something I need to concentrate on.

Apart from that you was much quicker than me. So: Well deserved! Gratulations to all Finishers! |
