Server: simracing.org.uk Summer
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Note early race start time.

After initial testing I'm surprised at just how close the car times are  :o

I was imagining that the Falcon would be the car of choice. Not so sure now  ???

Never mind cars being equal !!!!
Thought that i would do a server check this afternoon  ::) So everything loaded OK, selected a car just to see if I recognised the track, and set off. It did seem familiar  ;)
T1 a fast left.....T2 medium speed right leading on to a long straight............at the end of the straight a coloured run off area and a hairpin right.....????? oops!!!!who put a row of cones across the track????? Have I got the right track??? and anyway which way does the track go?

Confession time. I actually started a race with the AI and followed them to discover that the run off area was the way I should have gone

Bound to be. Look under "CIRCUITS". Find Magny-Cours and you will see a list of past lap times for the National Circuit (I hope).

EDIT: Seems no times for these car's which I find astonishing  :o

Altbierbude show 1:08 for the Alfa, 1:10 for the Mini, 1:09 for the Falcon and 1:10 for the Cortina. These times are for the standard cars.

Thanks Tony  :thumbup1:

so two seconds missing in the Mini (which for me is great fun) and four seconds in the Alfa  ???
Therefore will have a look in the Cortina.  :P

Apologies to Erling in the second race, I was trying to prevent the car sliding right across the track and only succeeded in getting in your way  :-\...So I quit in disgrace   :(

No worries Clive, my race was ruined already at this point, so no harm done.

First of all apologies for the contact in T1 in the first race to Geoffers - didn't feel a thing and didn't see what happened.  Chased after Clive, being surprised he didn't just leave me in the dust, considering the Altbierbude territory laptimes he posted before the race. After a few laps, I got a better exit from the chicane, getting ahead into T1. Feared I had squeezed him out, as he went a bit squirrely, and waited for him to recover and catch up. Replay reveals he did it all on his own  ;)  Had fun being chased over the following laps, until Clive suddenly vanished at the chicane. Assumed he had gone off, but seems he went to serve a S&G.  Rest of the race lonely, with a 17-20 sec gap to #2.  Grats to Geoffers & Matt for completing the podium.

Race 2; well, certainly the last time I'm stupid enough to win race 1, should I ever find myself in position to do so again, as that ruins race 2.  Started at the back but got past Kurt & Jammerjoh on L1.  Had to brake hard to avoid ramming Tony into a spin, when he lost the rear going through the chicane side by side with Geoffers.  That let Jammerjoh past again.  After a couple of clumsy overtake attempts on Tony, I resigned and held back, at which point he ran wide on his own, allowing me to slip past.  A string of "New fastest lap" reeled in Jammerjoh & Bob, who had gotten a fair bit ahead.  Got past Jammerjoh when he went on two wheels at the jump, but could do little about Bob's Falcon.  Passed him several times at T2, only for him to power ahead down the straight. In all other corners, although I could negotiate them much faster, I couldn't get past as long as he stayed on the racing line.

Final attempt at the 90-deg before the chicane earned me a cut warning and a S&G (2nd warning - I thought you needed 3 for a S&G?).  Collided with a spinning Clive at T2, sending me deep into the gravel.  Went to serve the S&G, only to get DQ'ed next lap for ignoring S&G ?????   Stupid game !!!

Grats to the podiums in both races and to those who got to the flag.

It seems that there was a glitch with this circuit Erling, as I had the same experience with a DQ in race 1.

The early laps were great fun with 2 Falcons drawing away from the field until my visit to the pits.
I would probably hold my hand up to 2 "cut tracks" in the 1st race as I wrestled with cold tyres (and a need to get away from Erling), but I felt that the 3rd was a little dubious, however there is no arguing with the omnipotent GTL gods. So I cursed quietly and went to the pits and served my penalty.
On the out lap from the pits I was careful and was gobsmacked to get the "DQ for not serving penalty" as I passed the pits??!!!

As yet, I haven't watched a replay, so maybe my recollection of my lines is rather more fantasy than fiction and I had cut the track too many times ::).

I do have a query as to how the cut track penalties are decided by GTL, and this in no way is attempting to penalise Erling. He was just driving the lines that worked for him and going as fast as he could. Others could have been using similar lines as well.
I watched the rest of race 1 from the pits and whilst not wishing to focus on Erling, I was watching his lines because he was also using the Falcon. The Falcon is a handful around this track and I found that I had to use the kerbs to carry any decent speed through some corners, which is what he was doing too.
I was especially interested in the chicane as he appeared to be way faster than me through there. Whilst I was on track I was trying to keep 2 wheels on the grey bit ( as is the general rule) and when I watched Erling's car from the overhead view his car went through the chicane with 4 wheels clear of the tarmac for both left and right flicks???   "Aha! he will have got a warning for that" I thought. Then he used the same line for the next lap??? and the next???????? "Next lap he should be going into the pits for a SnG, that will give Geoffers a sniff of the win"

But, Erling sailed through once again clipping the chicane??? without any problem. I did feel a little hard done by  :-\ :-\ lol.

In the second race I tried to copy his line in the much more nimble Alpha and got an immediate warning?? So I wondered what was different about the way that Erling did it? Whatever, I am not looking for any penalties for any other drivers, but hoping to discover where I was doing it wrong !!lol

The second race was immense fun for the first few laps as I chased Matt in the Falcon and was able to squeeze past a couple of times, but always the horsepower of the Falcon rescued him on the straight. Plus I discovered that the Donington gear ratios ran out of revs 75% up the long straight, which did not help my cause one little bit.
Geoffers and his Cortina were slowly gaining and I wanted to go quicker where Matt was fighting his car through the corners and quite legitimately blocking the racing line....the absolute cad!!!
It was as a result of this that I had to back off mid corner at T2 and lose momentum...Geoffers took full advantage of that and my under gearing to pass me at the end of the straight. Next lap I double downshifted into T2 and the rear gave up the fight for traction and the car swept around. I caught a glimpse of cars approaching and tried to force the Alpha to stay off the racing line, but succeeded only in knocking Erling into the gravel  :(

Despite my woes I am greatly enjoying this mini series and the close racing between such different cars. Thanks Tony.

Regarding the chicane Clive, I found the right part to be more critical than the left and was generally more careful with that. As it was, I didn't get a single cut warning in race 1, although you could perhaps argue I deserved some.

Couple of fun races fighting through from the back, will have to start at the back more often.

Race 1, was hoping to give the Falcons a bit of a run for their money but that all fell through at T1, Erling came through on the inside & pushed me wide into Matt's Alfa & I lost control. Everyone had disappeared by the time I got going but eventually I caught up. Can't remember how but  finally ended up chasing Matt for 3rd place which became a race for 2nd when Clive got his S/G. Resolved when Matt went gravel quarrying at T2 so finished a distant 2nd to Erling.

Race 2, I messed up what could have been a pole lap by spinning out at the chicane so started at the back with Erling. Got a blinder of a start & was up to 3rd at T1/2, didn't last though as Bob blasted past in his Falcon on the long straight. At the end of the lap Tony did a demon outbraking manoeuvre into Lycee only to spin exiting the chicane & give me the place back. Took a lap or two to finally get the better of Bob's Falcon & set off after Matt & Clive, took several laps to catch them as I was not much quicker. When I did get with them I was surprised to pass Clive quite easily at the end of the straight, his wrong gearing explains it, & a lap later I managed to slip past Matt too when he ran a little wide. Falcon power soon got him back ahead & I was never quite in a position to pass again without trying a totally mad dive bomb, they usually end in tears!

Congrats to Erling & Matt on their excellent winning drives.

Regarding the chicane, I think it is one of the worst policed corners in GTL. You can pretty well straight line it & not get penalised, it would be much better if they had made the cut tracks much tighter.

A couple of fun races for me.  R1 in the mini was a joy.  Just drove the track and finished well.  Was a little undergeared for some reason and was in the red way too early on the long straight.  Don't know how that happened except I didn't practice at all in it before going online. R2 in the Falcon was also very much fun.  Had some good battles with others in the Alphas and Cortinas.  Will never take the mini in R1 again and then follow it up with the Falcon, just too much adjustment in behavior between the two for my old brain cells.  Only way I could do it was creep around the corners and use it's straight away drag off and speed.  Had some help with my finish from others making mistakes and in the battles kind of dareing the guys behind me to try to pass me in the corners, but I didn't give up the good line so made it pretty tough on them.  A very good series Tony, much fun I think everyone agrees!!!!!  Maybe in the last race toss in the Mustang also..............
