Our first race is held at the Daytona Continental 24 Hours circuit at Daytona Beach, Florida. The venue is famous for the oval used for the prestigious Daytona 500 NASCAR race. We will use the sports car course which combines high speed oval racing with big 180 degree turns often seen on US tracks. Get ready for 26 fun laps … The Sports Cars Extra mod is new for UKGPL this season. Please check the Season 35 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=689&theme=6) regarding rules and the Sports Cars Extra pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=693&theme=6) in particular. Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score points. Each driver must select two cars at the start of the season. The choices must be declared in the race post for round 1 (or the first round you compete in). - Professional drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 6 points. - Amateur drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 5 points. If the gears are OK Off-line, it must be the selection in IGOR. I think these kinds of problems can occur if you select the wrong driver in IGOR. Hope you get it fixed. Regards Phil Title: Re: UKGPL Season 35 (2019) 1967 SCx - Daytona 24h - Jul 7 Post by: Phil Thornton on July 07, 2019, 10:34:23 PM +0100 Had a decent race with Tim for a while. He had the nimble Alfa whilst I had the big MKIV. Tim was all over me like a rash in the in-field but the speed of the MKIV was enough to get me back in front for a while. I made too many mistakes on the in-field and gradually I lost more ground than I could make up on the straights. Grats to Tris and the rest of the podium.

I took the "slow" car for this race and was very afraid of this notorious turn 1, with ~316 kph over the line, I had to brake this heavy car in a corner down to 70 kph... In the last second before this Qualifying I had the right idea how to tame the beast, and yeah it worked! Hi Phil, the driver selection was correct. If not correct i'm not able to find my setup used in the test. The problem remain a mystery. I knew that this track offered some chance for the lower powered cars and obviously one or two others were thinking the same thing. I managed to extract some good times from the old Porker, but it did require the slipstream from a bigger car to make it work. The downside was that I was running a very high 1st gear, which made getting off the line a real problem and that scuppered my start. I knew that my race depended upon getting a tow from the bigger cars, and perhaps I was trying too hard in the first few laps :-\ to get on their tails. Inevitably I pushed 20mtrs too deep into T1 and ran wide, I also clipped a wall and somewhere my car lost 10mph off top speed :(. For a couple of laps I was almost joining the battle between Tim and Phil but even when I was within slipstream range I was losing ground because of the damage. slowly I fell farther behind and ended up simply lapping the track around 4 secs off my expected race pace until the flag. Grats to all finishers, this series could be fun as the car choices work out.
