Title: Next series
Post by: phspok on July 12, 2019, 11:54:20 AM +0100
A new Poll to seek opinion for one of the next series. Shout up if you feel I have missed something

You can vote for three options. Highest count wins for the next 3 series.

Group 4 - Yay!
No Touring Classics - Boo!  ;D

Wot? you mean modern touring cars? I try to leave modern stuff for Sunday. I don't care what we run if it gets people
to join though.

I have fallen out of love with the DTM92 since the "upgrade" they seem more unstable than before.

I have included the Gt3 Pork because I tried the practice for the Sector 3 event that Geoff and John did and it seemed a nice drive.
If you want something other than in the list specify, and it will be added.

I think Frex means the Touring Classics that we formerly ran with the 92DTM cars, Volvo, Skyline, 635 etc.

Right, understood

Yeah, those. Like the DTM '92s they've also changed a lot since we last ran them, but these can take bigger slip angles and are more fun (imo).

Thanks for adding them to the poll.

Post by: Geoffers on April 20, 2020, 07:24:49 PM +0100
I have read that the Porsche 964 is very evenly matched with the Touring Classics, so could be a possibility of adding them to the grid for variety if we run the TCs.

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: frex on April 20, 2020, 07:32:20 PM +0100
Yes I've heard that too. Not really enough times on the leaderboard to properly compare them at most tracks so we'd have to do our own testing probably, but it's an interesting possibility.

Hard to make a decision based on 2 or 3 votes..... but currently I am liking Formula Junior (aka Formula Ford)
Touring classics, (with the 964 if they match), and "something else" more votes are needed  ;D

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: phspok on April 24, 2020, 07:43:41 PM +0100
I have added Gr4, though to me they are both still undrivable  :surrender: any car that suddenly decides to jink to one side while going down a
straight is not good to me

Title: Re: Next series

So Group 4 higher up the list should be GT4.  ???

Sure you’ve not already voted Bill? Do you see an option to “remove vote”?

Only other thing I can think of is that you’re not logged in, but if that were the case you wouldn’t be able to post replies here.

The 3 options in bold print are your votes cast, or mine if you have somehow hacked your way in as me  ::)

Yes those are my choices but I did notice that the total had not clocked up by one to nine! So I guess in trying to register my vote by trying all the buttons I Deleted your vote and substituted my vote - sorry about that.

I don't think you can delete my vote? only change your own. Or at least I assume so.
I will probably change one of my votes before I close the election if there is a deadlock

10 Votes in. So far the next series will be:

WTCR (2019)

Touring Classics + Pork 964

Merc DTM 2005

If you want to change your vote, or you haven't voted yet, please do, as I will close the vote
in the next 2 days, and start planning the next 3 series.

For the WTCR 2019 series, don't forget the more extreme tracks Nordschleife and Macau.

Or are these tracks not fun at all?

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: picnic on July 06, 2020, 08:43:26 PM +0100
We've raced both in the past. Macau's not so much fun as it's hard to get passed anyone but I remember and epic race round the Ring using the NSU where 3 or 4 of us were  battling wheel to wheel for the whole race.

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: phspok on July 06, 2020, 09:49:28 PM +0100
The WTCR series will be the same tracks as the real 2019 where possible
Macau is great, but the problem is that tight hairpin. I have done a few laps with these cars there
and you can get round, But I had to increase the steering lock a lot, and also added some speed
sensitive steering or it's a bit lively on the fast straights. The Green hell will definately be on

Motorland Aragon was just released in Store.

I know you were thinking of a WTCR series, with this release and the six event Europe only calendar, the series could recreate the real thing (except for Adria but maybe Imola would be a good replacement).

Title: Re: Next series

Done, thanks to Tony. I have yet to create the event pages, and figure which of the many Slovakia ring variants to use
and also add Aragorn, when we get him into our database. The other 2 series will be entered "soon"

??? I only have one layout for Slovakiaring, are you sure you are not confusing it with another track Matt.

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: phspok on August 20, 2020, 04:13:13 PM +0100
There is only one R3E layout, but we have a load of them in our system, and it messes up the results if I don't get the right one
Not urgent, I will sort it. The unkown in the list is Aragorn the sword weilding chappy. Just waiting for Dave to add it our list of tracks.

I demand a re-vote. After all the moaning about the Touring Classics and how hard some (all?) of these have become to drive we dive straight in to a new season of them  ::)

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: phspok on August 24, 2020, 09:31:13 AM +0100
1: I agree, it was not my 1st choice. Can be changed if required. I can go with it or not.

2: I am going to some trouble to choose tracks very carefully that I can drive at least one of them at.
I tried the little Beemer at Daytona, and it was not a difficult drive. I also tried at Laguna Seca, which I assumed
would be undrivable, but I can get round in the little beemer, so anyone can. I picked that car because it is the
most popular, and to me the most awkward. The others are not so tough.

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: picnic on August 24, 2020, 11:16:01 AM +0100
Don't go changing it Matt, I'll pick something I find easier to drive and hopefully enjoy it a bit more.

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: Geoffers on August 24, 2020, 11:49:36 AM +0100
Matt, could you let me know when you have finalised the 3 race schedules so I can post them at S3 forum, cheers.

Probably too late to change now, but would it be possible to run the WTCR series as 2x20 min races with reverse grid for race 2. Don't know what others think. If it is too much hassle just ignore me ;D

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: frex on August 24, 2020, 01:09:08 PM +0100

+1 - I'm fine with running them all over again, but equally happy to go with something different this time.

Probably too late to change now, but would it be possible to run the WTCR series as 2x20 min races with reverse grid for race 2.

Fine with me. Is that how the real series is run?

Title: Re: Next series

I forgot about 2 shorts. I don't think it will be an issue, I just create another event same day
It has to be at the same track though.

Actually the real 2019 series had I believe 3 races per event. But Matt has based this on the 2020 Calendar which has the following races:

Salzburgring   Race 1 - 12 laps, Race 2 - 15 laps

Nurburgring Nordschliefe   Race 1 & Race 2 - 3 laps

Slovakiaring  Race 1 & Race 2 - 9 laps, Race 3 - 11 laps

Hungaroring  Race 1 & Race 2 - 12 laps, Race 3 - 15 laps

Aragon  Race 1 & Race 2 - 10 laps, Race 3 - 12 laps

Adria  3 Races distance TBC

Today Sector3 released the 2020 Lada Vesta TCR as a free-to-play car in its own series. Should we include that as an option together with the WTCR19 cars, provided the BoP is about the same? To give a free option to people who don't own any of the WTCR19 cars.

If it the same speed, then we could do yes. Someone faster than me needs to do some testing  ::)

If it the same speed, then we could do yes. Someone faster than me needs to do some testing  ::)

Just tried the Lada against the Lynk & Co at Salzburgring with default setups. Little to chose between the two, 1.27.4 in the Lada, 1.27.1 in the Lynk & Co.

Title: Re: Next series
Post by: azaris on August 26, 2020, 04:49:45 PM +0100
So I tried the Lada at Salzburgring. Stock setup, no changes. My best time so far with the WTCR19 Civic is 1:27.196. After a couple of laps, I was able to do a 1:26.966 with the Lada. Seems it's a bit faster than the Civic but not remarkably so. Competing against the AI cars driving the WTCR19 field felt roughly the same as with the Civic, I wasn't pulling away anywhere and could outbrake them in roughly the same spots as before.

According to R3E, the Lada is supposed to have 40 extra hp and weigh 150 kg less? Sure doesn't feel like it. Maybe that's left-over from when they had it as a WTCC 2017 spec car? Or maybe that's the hp you get when you run it on 100% vodka.

Apparently Geoff had the same idea, at least I was faster :P.

I get that sort of difference in the various 2019 cars depending on what I had for breakfast. I will do some testing myself as well.
We can do 2x each event, the server can do 3x I think. but our results system only does 2 at the moment
I think 3x might be too much for one evening, and, Dave would need to modify his code to allow for 3.
