Season 35 1965F1 – Round 2 –  Watkins Glen

Borovaya is a real track near Minsk in Belarus. The Short Minsk Ring was opened in 1962. On a map the track resembled a triangle; two south sides went along old Zaslavskoe highway, which turned to the south near the village, and the north side ran along a new post-war section of this highway. The length of the track was 2850 meters. The track doesn't have any fences or walls around it, but some areas are marked by wooden landmarks or piles of tires. Borovaya is located in a hilly region, so the track has huge altitude differences for a such short length – around 18 meters!
The season will be a mixed grid & free choice of chassis for all drivers. The damage model is intermediate & all drivers are permitted 1 x Reset, followed by a compulsory Stop & Go.

I could reach 163 on my own and I think I hit 166 or 167 in Qually with a tow (MPH).

Grats to Tris, Ziu and Andreas.

First I should apologise to Ziu for the contact which probably compromised his race. I was following him closely and his car completely vanished for about 5 secs??? I had no idea if he had disco'd or he was experiencing some warp. Then suddenly he reappeared and we made side by side contact at the one corner where a trip into the trees is a certainty  :-\ .

My race might have got me a 3rd place, I was just a couple of tenths slower than Tris and Ziu and could not stay with them unless they made mistakes. My BT11 just had slightly wrong gearing for some corners and it cost me time on each lap. But with about 10 laps to go I got a random GPL failure when the "ignition" failed and I coasted into the pits.  :(

@ Fran
Your ultimate speed on a straight (without slipstream) also depends on the exit speed from the last corner. If you carry 10kph extra through the corner, and get a smooth clean exit, you will be getting a higher top speed if your gear ratios are correct. At Borovaya I found that with full tanks I was quicker using 1st gear out of the final corner, but by about half distance and less fuel I could use 2nd gear and still get good speed.
During the race when I was closing up to lap you ( just before my ignition failed!!) I was gaining a lot of time on your car out of the last corner on each lap, so maybe it would be worth watching the replay of the faster cars to see how your corner speed compared to theirs?

I found that too but my 2nd was just a bit too high and it was awkward keeping the revs high enough so I used 1st most of the race.

Thanks Clive.
