Season 35 Sports Cars Extra Cup – Round 2 – Monza 1000k

Our second race is held at Monza, the 10km track was too fast, so they made 2 chicanes for the GT's.
Monza the hard way...

The Sports Cars Extra mod is new for UKGPL this season.
Please check the Season 35 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=689&theme=6) regarding rules and the Sports Cars Extra pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=693&theme=6) in particular.
Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score points.

Each driver must select two cars at the start of the season.
The choices must be declared in the race post for round 1 (or the first round you compete in).
- Professional drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 6 points.
- Amateur drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 5 points.

The SCX mod is quicker than GT,
in Monza 1000k ~1-2 sec...

Better brakes and tyres!

I like to drive the Chap 2F and Mark I. I haven't not yet driven the Ford and only several minutes in the 2F. I'll try to practice enough to be somewhat safe.

Also with the Ferrari only 3 gears.I have tried a Lola but was the same.Seem that the only car that work online is the Chapparal.
I have no idea in which way is possible to solve the problem.

Fran download the 1.1 version of the SCX mod and install it, let the old install be removed by the installer.
You have old beta files in your carsSC folder imo...

Excuse time - either
a. The brake fix has simply moved the problem to the rear ;)
or
b. I hadn't done enough full fuel testing and got caught out at CG on Lap 2....

I'm amazed that the car appeared unscathed after doing all of Curva Grande going backwards along the armco...
It then had a gentle punt into the invisible armco in the 2nd chicane 2 laps later after I'd passed Phil and Greg, I have to assume I'd caught the draft from the next car up the road - as there's no reason I shouldn't have stopped in time otherwise.
Cheers if you were waiting Phil, although you certainly didn't need to as you definitely weren't involved.

I was quite amazed at the Lola's pace from that point on - admittedly both fastest laps were done when catching and drafting 'slower' Fords but the pace the Mk3 kept up for the remainder of the race was unrelenting.
Towards the end of the race I finally allowed myself to start pushing beyond the 7000rpm safe limit which gained me nearly another second a lap.

I literally only needed 1 more lap and I would have caught and probably been able to pass Clive ::)

Well done Clive and Tris for the Podium, and to all finishers - that was enjoyable.

Congrats Clive, Tim, and Tristan!

I'm listed as driving a Mark IIB. I needed one. Two wrecks at the second chicane had the Mark 1's top speed as low as the Alfa's.

Thanks for the fun guys.

It looked like a Mk2 to me too if I'm honest.
Although that explains why I heard you change gear 5 time out of the chicanes!

Edit: I guess it would also explain how I was able to out accelerate you between parabolica and the first chicane!

I literally only needed 1 more lap and I would have caught and probably been able to pass Clive ::)

Well done Clive and Tris for the Podium, and to all finishers - that was enjoyable.

Grats to all finishers  and to Tim and Tris.
I was well aware that you were catching me Tim, but from around 5 laps out I was cruising and dropped my laptimes by over a second a lap. I was watching the gap between us closing quickly, but I had done the mental arithmetic and knew that I was safe  ;) Grats on that FL, which was impressive  ;D
Throughout the whole race I had not matched my offline PB. In the early laps I was behind Axel's big Ford and although it offered a good slipstream he was slower into, and through, the chicanes and corners. The net result was a slower lap than I felt I could do.
After your incident at Curve Grande, I carefully chased down Tris and his Lola, no rush and no drama, plenty of laps and I was steadily reeling him in until he made an error at one of the chicanes and I was on his tail.
By then there was a big gap back to 3rd place so I was happy to just follow for while...and watch. After a few laps I decided that I could go a little quicker than Tris, so I set up a draft pass and took the lead. Tris pulled off a great re-take around the outside of Curve Grande, so I though again.
The next time I made a pass, it worked and I was able to slowly get away and increase my lead without risking too much.
I think I made one mistake late in the race at Curve Grande when I tried to take it in 4th, instead of the usual 3rd, and clouted the barrier. I found the Ferrari deceptively fast and stable and for me the brake bug is a distant memory.

You have to look closely and look for the scoops on the rear fenders on the Mark II to tell the difference. That's nothing any driver should be doing during a race.

I'm glad you and everybody else was able to get by me without much drama. I was slow everywhere. The Mark I is so weak I couldn't stay in anybody's slipstream for long. I think I made a bad choice of cars. With all the fast tracks, I thought the Mark I might be better than the Porsche or Alfa, and the 2F may be too fast.

I found the Ferrari deceptively fast and stable and for me the brake bug is a distant memory.

That's nice. :) I took me about 6 years to learn how to work with the bugs in the old mod. I wish I wasn't hobbled at the moment. I have no idea how long it will take to thoroughly enjoy this new mod.

Take care guys.

Yes it needs some practice to get used to the new mod,
the tires have much more grip so you need another balance with the wheelrates, (I use nearly the double at the rear...)
else the tire temps stay too low, you need +80° in pribluda ;)

My Monza setup for the MKIV : https://www.sendspace.com/file/ki8yep

As Tim found out the revs can be higher as in old mod and the reliability is better.
But you can blow the engine!!!

I blew the Lola up coming out of the pits in one of my Qualifying sessions - so that's still the same ;D
