Season 35 – 1967 F1 – Round 3 – Virginia International Raceway

The third race in the 1967 F1 series finds us at Virginia in the USA. In 1955, a group of North Carolina car enthusiasts began their search for a possible racetrack location. They soon found the perfect site on the state line on land owned by the Foote Family and Virginia International Raceway (VIR) opened for business in August of 1957. The group leased the property as Sports Car Enterprises. VIR’s first official event was a SCCA race that attracted stars like Carroll Shelby, Carl Haas, Bob Holbert, Augie Pabst, Bob Grossman, Don Yenko, Dr Dick Thompson, Walt Hansgen and Bruce Jennings. Shelby, who would later go on to worldwide fame by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 and creating the iconic Cobra sports cars in the early 1960s, won that first feature race at VIR in a Maserati 450S.The lconic Texan uttered a quote about the track that is remembered to this day, “one lap at VIR is like a hundred at Watkins Glen.”

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Grats to Tim on what looked like a dominant win from my perspective. I had a decent race with David, Fran, Pepe and Dulima.

Don't forget there is a Summer break for the 67F1s now (much like the current F1 championship). We'll be back on the 8th September at Rouen. See you all there!

Very disappointing end to the race. My internet connection dropped out on the 12th lap. Had been involved in a long running battle against Pepe's Cooper. I was probably a few tenths quicker in the Brabham but not quick enough to get past & he was stubbornly refusing to make a mistake.
Awesome time by Tim at the front.

Very hard race for me !
On first lap, I have to run on the grass because it was very closed with Pepe, starting behind me, who had a very quick start.

2 laps later, I spun at the begin of the long straight and restart just behind the 2 Honda of Phil and Francesco
Then Dulima overtook me and I was probably on last position.
I could overtook DuLima and then Francesco when the leader was overlapping us.
Then Phil (I dont remember how ...)

At the end of the race, I rejoin Pepe but I was surprised by his braking (at the same place where I went on the grass at 1st lap ...) and I rearended him  :-[
Sorry Pepe for that !

Wohooo! -that´s how a Lotus feels like.
As you all were quite underpowered it was not that difficult this time. Tristan couldn´t really make it to get me nervous ;) and after the first lap was over I found my rhythm and was able to pull away constantly. Although in lap 24 I spun and was very lucky not to hit a straw bale..uff! But I also have to say that this kind of lonely driving in front isn´t feeling that good. So I hope for better racing next time!

Also, I really will say thanks to all I could overlap for looking into the mirrors and leting me by easily -really cool!!
Gratulations to Tristan and Gregory for reaching podium! well done, all finishers! and my comiserations to all who didn´t see the checkered flag!

Hopefully see you all next time healthy at Rouen, France!

That was L21. Up to that point I'd had a clean race and was running 8th. The Cooper apparently took some damage from the contact and a couple of laps later I went wide into the grass at the entrance to the back straight and Phil slipped past me. It was too bad, but you both were faster than I was (as your best times clearly prove). I love this track. Can we race it again later this year instead of Brno?  :)

I hate this track,so i hope to not race again this year.I think that Brno is another tragedy for me but is better to not repeat a tragedy on the same track.
The time of Tim is impressive but for me are impressive all the time under 1,55.
Since i analyze my disaster with replay analyzer,i'm curious to see the gear setup of Clive for this track. Is possible Clive?
Anyway i have seen my wrong approach at South Bend where i lost 1,5 sec compared to other Honda pilots.

Sorry again, Pepe and congrats for your race with the underpowered Cooper.
I don't think it's possible to race again here this season but maybe we could race for a non-championship race.

About best times, I am very impressed when I see I was 0,636 sec quicker than Eric Bilodeau but on the finish line the gap was 54sec for Eric (so more than 2sec/lap !!).
Eric should teach me how to get the same regularity.
I lost a lot of time during the first laps (behind the BRM and the 2 Honda) and made several mistakes.
Moreover I usually am very cautious until 50% of the race because my first objective is always to finish an then to score points.
