This Sunday we will be racing GT2's around Donington. This will be a test race for the forthcoming GT2 Endurance series

https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=15496.msg284541#new

I am trying to evaluate the following:

  • Whether we need to ballast up any of the cars as some of them are newer than others
  • How much interest there is in running an endurance series for these cars in the autumn

If you are planning on racing this Sunday please pipe up here, if there is enough interest i may increase the race distance to 40 mins and add a mandatory pitstop (to get in endurance mode!)

Last time out on Sebring the cars where equally mixed, but that was also due to the fact some fast blokes took to the somewhat slower cars. I am sure the modern 911 RSR will need some balancing with the other cars.

Perhaps we should look to the initial power to weight ratio of these cars? Would be great if we could include the RSR ofcourse.

I'll take either the Vette or the Pork for a change (probably Vette, I have an epic sound mod for it) - doubt I'll make many races for the actual series though as in addition to my current GPL commitments I'm doing this aswell:

Just to let you know the server is not using the same donington as the one in the race announcement. Luckily I had the other one anyway.

It was the same version we have used for the last few races, maybe RD have updated it? shame it was a good race!

Donnington 2018 was the download link, did it change?

I guess whoever started the server picked the Donington we've used before as I had the old (no idea where it comes from) rather than the one in the race post.  :wetfish:

I hadn't even realised there was a new Donny, so obviously I got lucky like Simon.

That was a great race, I had the advantage of the Corvette admittedly (setup work consisted of copying my Sebring test setup, and then changing some tire pressures) but due to not bothering to really play with the setup I found myself at a very similar pace to Simon.

I just pipped him to Pole on the last lap of qually and then had a close race with him pretty much much flag to flag.
I managed to open quite a nice gap of just over a second in the first 5 minutes, but then missed a brake point due to reaching for (and missing thanks to the Rift) my TC knob when entering the GP loop section.
This caused me to miss a gear and also run wide through the 1st hairpin and put Simon right back on me.
He pretty much stayed there from then on, I made a small amount of ground again but found myself moving backwards slightly as the balance of the car started to change in the 2nd half of the race.
My response was to play more with the TC throughout the laps - the Corvette carried a lot of speed in the faster turns if I left the TC on at a high level of interference, but for the tight hairpins I dialled it right back to stop it interfering much and just squared off the exits heavily. That meant that while Simon could get very close under braking, I'd just walk away again under power as he had more turning to do before he could fully accelerate.

Good fun and the Corvette and Beemer sounded fantastic here, especially from the replay cameras 8)

Well done podium and finishers, hopefully I can make the next race and try the RSR out - I haven't found a sound for the Ferrari that doesn't sound like a hairdryer so am happy to miss trying that for now....

Was surprised to see Tim start on pole as I didn't even notice him sneak a good one in at the death! Was a fun battle, but I never felt like I was going to get passed him. The Vette had too much grunt out of the corners. It wasn't so good under braking  and a few times I thought I was going to clobber him as the distance rapidly closed back in, but without an insane divebomb or a massive mistake it was a matter of putting the pressure on and hoping. Good job Tim for withstanding the onslaught!

Luckily for me I've raced this combo before (so I have a good setup) and I love these GT2s with no ABS and plenty of power, so despite my usual no practice, it felt comfortable.

The graphics in AC are still awesome IMHO, missing a few special FX from ACC, but the general look is better and of course it runs a lot faster! I mean look at this screenshot, luverly.
