Season 35 Sport Cars Extra Cup – Round 5 – Montlhéry

The 5th round of the Season 35 SCx races takes us to Montlhéry near Paris, France.
Autodrome de Montlhéry (established 4 October 1924) is a motor racing circuit, officially called L’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, located south-west of the small town of Montlhéry about thirty kilometres (19 miles) south of Paris. It was initially called Autodrome Parisien, and had especially high banking. A road circuit was added in 1925.
The first race there, the 1925 French Grand Prix, was held on 26 July 1925 and organised by The Automobile Club de France Grand Prix. It was a race in which Robert Benoist in a Delage won; Antonio Ascari died in an Alfa Romeo P2. The Grand Prix revisited the track in 1927 and each year between 1931 and 1937.

Grats podium!
Tough racing with the big block MK2B, shame I made this early mistake with cold tyres wich brought me to the very last position,
I had a good recovery race and a big fight with Tris, hope it was fair...

Aren't these cars fantastic!?

Congrats Jonny! We didn't stand a chance.

What a race! That was intense. That was great driving Tim and Clive. It was good to see I can still put up a fight. I gave it all the beans it had. Clive got robbed. Were you waiting for Tim after contact? It looked like you were so I didn't try to pass. You guys did great to never hit me. I struggled a few times trying to figure out where you guys were. The one lap I fell behind some was the only time I got to relax a bit.

I thought my GT40 might be faster here than the Porsche and Alfa, but the straights weren't long enough. :) I don't think that would have been so difficult if I had a Porsche or Alfa, but I may not have been able to stay with Clive and Tim.

Take care guys and thanks for letting me race with you.

Bit of a disappointing race for me. Did well in qualifying and the start of the race was OK but I spun out trying to stay with Greg (bad mistake) and I dropped behind Fran and David. The I was involved in an incident (report submitted so no more to be said here) and I needed a Shift R. So after my S&G I was a long way behind. I tried to catch up but there was something wrong with my car, it wouldn't pull top gear ???  Stayed on until the end in case anyone dropped out but nobody did. Grats to Fran and David, it looks like the Amateurs championship is between the 3 of us.

At the moment you are in"Hamilton" position.
My race was regular without big error but the place where i lose time is the last with the 2 chicanes.Compared with the Alfa i lose 3sec and one with the Ford of Cookie.

a big surprise !!!! :jumpjoy:
frankly I was amazed at the times Mirage was able.
It was the first time I was mirage this new version of mod GT
I think this car is very fast, surprising.
I choose mirage only to have a more colorful grid, it is my campaign to always have multibrand !!!
to my surprise it was a monotone race, my car was easy, fast and flying sharp !!!

I'll be honest - I joined this one thinking I'd be sat at the back and waiting for everyone to fall off, I really didn't think the Alfa would be fast enough to have any sort of chance!

Imagine my supprise when I found myself 2nd for a large chunk of practice (I'd switched to race fuel by the time I was deposed so coudn't really mount a come back).

The race start was all pretty civilised - which suprised me as I expected myself and the 910's to be swamped by the time we reached the dip.
After Phil had his Demi-spin, and Tris landed badly I found myself in a fairly safe 4th and considerably stronger than both Clive's Pork, and Greg's Mk1 in several places.
Sadly I also found myself utterly out classed by both of them in several other places - It turns out that the Porsche can both out-accelerate and out run the 33 with out too much difficulty on the straights. It also seems to put it's power down much better out of tight corners, although that could also be Clive's setup as I was running a fairly open diff here.

After Clive had jumped him around 6 laps in, Greg was caught offline and vunerable, so being the nice gentleman driver I am I dived straight in for the kill  ;D
Somehow I was in in front by the time we reached the dip on the following lap and was able to start pulling clear again and also to re-close the gap to Clive who'd buggered-off somewhat during the exchange.
Once back on him we settled in for a battle that would last for over half of the race - where ze German's continually show boated their superior technology in front of me.
Eventually I managed to be close enough to catch the draft and actualy make a move on Clive, amazingly it worked and I was in 2nd!
2 laps later I'd got too much air in the dip and was back in 3rd ::)

After a few more position changes both Clive and I seemed to loose control braking into Virage de la Ferme and he rear ended me - this let Greg rejoin the fun with only 5 laps to go.
I rapidly got back onto Greg's tail during the twisty section and peddled for all I was worth hoping to repeat my pass from earlier in the race and at least re-gain 3rd. Greg was awake to this and held me off nicely - but then Clive lost it into the 2nd chicane and Greg and I were promoted!

Even better was that Greg then proceeded to throw himself off at the same point with only 2 to go despite having otherwise held me off perfectly.
The Alfa deserved that wreath far more than I did, I abused the poor thing pretty much to destruction in that race

Well done Jonny on the Win and to Greg for just holding off Clive for 3rd - well done to everyone else for finishing on the lead lap too, that's doing well here I think.

I was much slower than you (but at a similar pace to the 2 cars ahead of me), probably down to the difference in ability but maybe our choice of cars exacerbated the difference.

I submitted an incident report. Best to do it that way, it avoids arguments but it looks like we are in agreement here anyway. Good luck in the next race  :thumbup1:
