If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

My old eyes missed the first (concrete?!) :cursing: marker at the chicane but the marker didn't miss my front wheel, so end of an entertaining few laps at Rouen.  I think it's fair to mention that actually Matt is to blame. Apparently gutted by losing his position at the start his pace was scary and he kept closing in by gaining tenths or more  lap by lap so maybe under the pressure I went in a tad too fast,lol. I think he would surely have caught me before lap 10.
I hope the rest of the pack were less unlucky and managed to finish their race.

hehe, You were not alone Dan, Osni suffered the same fate on lap 1, and Geoffers had an issue somewhere
I had hit that left pole a few times in practice, so was giving it a wide berth.

After some practice I had the feeling that finishing the race would be good enough top get a decent final position... How right was I  8) (but I did not manage to "implement" my own self-advice  :clown: )
14 drivers at the start :clap: so I was not so sure that my "feeling" would be confirmed. Anyway I intended to play it rather safe during the race...

Things went well for about 3 laps, I was 4th following Geoffers but then I clipped one of the nasty little poles at the chicane entry and thought my race was over. But no, I was lucky and my car was undamaged :o so I could carry on, much lower in the classification but still in the race.
Thanks to other drivers misfortunes I could regain my 4th position, about 10 sec behind Nocatu but mostly loosing ground to him... until the 13th lap where the armco took away my two front wheels. :eek:

Nice race, I was very keen on finishing this one so I focused my setup towards the race and didn't put any quali laps in as I wanted to start at the back after what happened in the previous race.
During offline practice I noticed that the poles in that chicane can touch your wheel even if you're not actually coming into contact with them so I always kept my distance.
Towards the end I was near Rog but the tyres were pretty much gone; kept spinning so I figured I'd change the backs only. Silly me picked up a stop-go for speeding but luckily Suti was lapped before the end so the eventual penalty didn't cost me a position!

More would have finished if we using the old version without that nasty chicane with the poles and tyres
But we are doing 1972, so it is the right course to use.

Simply no luck in this series like many others. It's fun driving these cars anyway.

Ah! That explains it then (I really thought I was somewhat clear of the pole when "it hit me" ;D )

I was just researching this & according to this website the chicane wasn't used until 1974. But I don't think the track is available without the chicane but with the then new link section.

Anyway not a long race for me, caught the kerb at the chicane on lap 3 & trying to avoid the tyres I lost the rear & slammed into the barriers losing a wheel. Doh!

Correct. When used in '72 it was the short track format but without the chicane. I was not able to source a mod in this form so had to go with the '74 version with it's chicane added.

Got caught up in the wrecks at the chicane on lap 3.  Cars was wounded but drove around the track to the pits for repairs.  Crew worked on it for what seemed forever.    Restarted after the pits and noticed the car would only run at about half speed.  Also wouldn't turn so went into the armco.  Red mist took over and I punched out.  You would think that as fragile that these cars are that the pit crews would be able to fix them right.  Oh well maybe next week will be better!!!

You lost a front wheel after your Armco hit and unfortunately this will not be fixed in the pit stop.

My race was hardly a triumph either...
Lap 1 I managed to be hit by the concrete posts ( although I am sure that I left enough room!!) but was fortunate that all the wheels remained attached. I was unfortunate that the engine stalled because I was using the "H" shifter and the car was still in gear. It took me about 20 secs to get the engine re-started  :-\
Rejoined dead last and tried to keep the damned thing on the grey stuff eventually caught Suti who had obviously "had a moment" and followed him for a few laps until I think he allowed me to pass. Whereupon I promptly spun it at the exit of the chicane, but avoided hitting anything hard.
It was at around this point that I wondered if the "3" in the Formula 3 description referred to the number of wheels that these cars are supposed to have  ???  I lost count of the cars that I passed that were leaving a trail of sparks and smoke as their drivers tried to make it to the sanctuary of the pits  ::)
It was as well that I did not laugh ( well, not too loudly) at their misfortune because it was not so many laps later that a little brain befuddlement about where exactly the gearstick should be caused me to go one better than them and rip 2 wheels off  :-\

Hi on lap 2 hit pole on entry to chicane, which spun the car into the fencing,lucky no damage and was able to rejoin, latter part of race Nocatu closed up on me but a few laps from the end he pitted.
