Dreading this  :(.

Hate the slow speed corners so much can't be bothered to practice here. Forgot how annoying GTR slow speed physics were until I tried. Christ, my escort van can go around that hairpin quicker  :). Or maybe the 550 is just horrible around Donni.

Roll on GTR2.

I'm going to give this one a miss and try and get some practice in on the NGT cars .... had a spin (well several each lap  :-\) in the GT cars and really not got to grips with Donny.

I totally agree SBG, Donny is my least-favourite official GTR track :( that hairpin is so damn annoying!

Looks like Shark is the only one who enjoys, and is going to be really fast, around Donni. Digging yourself a bloody big hole matey  ;).

Glad to see its not in enduro S3. Some nice tracks instead   :)

Lol Mark! U should try Zandvoort ;)

I'll try to stick to my LUVVVerly C5R again, but I don't think it's a lot of good on a twisty bumpy track like Donny!? Who knows and tbh... Who cares? 8) Just the great sound is enough! Roll on Enduro! :D

I love Donny, the flow is awesome. The last two hairpins just don't make any sense. Not because of the GTR physics. It's just like they needed to make the track longer.
Will have to as Gymer if I can be a reserve for this race so there will be 2 Sharks who like the track ;D

Woohoo, I'm in for tonight (as a reserve). Now all I need to do is pick a car....choices, choices, choices. I think it will be the 550.

Shame it won't rain. I love the rain at Donnington, makes it soooooo much fun.

I think your right about the track length mate. I don't think it was long enough to be a GP track so they added the new hairpin section.

That is a good time Rusk! Expect a 1.26 for qualli but race setup 1.27's are good.
Think CJ did a 1.25 if you really want something to aim for ;)

Well it's quite a challenge this circuit. Very different from the rest too, so that's good in my book.
Don't think I'll be anywhere near the front though, not hugely fast at Donington.

Glad to see its not in enduro S3. Some nice tracks instead   :)

Well it's on standby in case any of the addon tracks don't work out.

Never want to do that track again  :). Kept going despite 3 ridiculous slow speed spins(noticed once I span at 15mph  :o). Then told race had finished only to get DNF. A waste of bloody time.

If I am placed in front of Jan, can he be put in front of me? Sorry for hairpin punt but I did let you back through, but not sure if you got the place.

Tyf can you turn down the red arrows effect. Bloody impossible to follow you  :)

My first GT, and what a great one.

Qualified in 5th I think, behind Greg130. We had a great battle for about 20-25 minutes. Me being up his bumper most of the time. But then at the Melbourne hairpin it went wrong. I braked, but all of a sudden when I was at a slow speed, my wheels locked and I had 2 choices: hope I don't take Greg130 out, or shift back so I do a 180 and stand still at once. Knowing that Greg is leading the champ I kinda went for the 2nd choice.

After that I had to fight back up the grid. I won some spaces by error and I was chacing Rich_A. As woth Greg, I was faster in The Esses so I was planning a move in the Melbourne hairpin. But I then noticed that the first spin was not an incident. It is the stupid low speed grip level that makes overtaking at that point impossible. Luckily I was the only one to spin and Rich could continue without a problem (from what I could see, sorry if it wasn't). Finished in 5th after a great race. Hope the NGT will be just a good.

I'd rather kick Anders too....bores the t*ts off me.  :(

Phew, that was a lot of effort for little reward  :(

Qually was tough, got demoted to 10th in dying seconds  ::)

Race started completely the wrong way when i got rear ended quite hard (ooh-er :-*) on the warm up lap (no problem FB..it happens), luckily only half span and SBG kindly let me back through.
Car had great pace and good grip in early part of race and managed to get myself upto about 7th/8th when someone up front dislodged a cone at the chicane and lucky 'ol me drove over it spinning my car sideways. I was precariously perched on the racing line so had to sit there and let about 9 cars go by  :'(
Then had the proverbial bit between my teeth and started chasing bods down with a vengeance, dispatching them one by one :ninja: until i caught up with jamera in about 11th place...then the poxy car span at low speed in that shite hairpin bend. This happened 3 times in race and probably cost me a top 7 finish as the car was absolutely flying other than that git of a corner >:(
Had a ding dong back and forth with a couple of guys, re-losing my places each time the car infuriating lost it at that corner. Eventually came home 10th after a couple of people had late mis-fortunes.

ps..I think SBG should be given the 10th or 11th place, the moderators can decide. I think its unfair if the game told him it was the last lap and so he didnt continue. Otherwise he wasted an hour racing.

And I'll never get it back mate  :). This has been sorted before (Pops had a similar thing) so I am placed where it said. Happy with that, but I should not be placed in front of Jan.

Steady race. Just nicked pole with seconds to spare from TT then the race was good for me. TT was battling early on and I was able to pull out a 4 sec gap. Then something happened to TT and I had an 8 sec gap which stayed till the end of the race. Nice steady drive by greg behind us, couldn't pull out anymore of a gap but luckily the gap wasn't coming down too fast.
Nice race all 8)

Good race , First few laps was mega with the first 8 cars close together.  Spun at the loop and lost alot of time and Fly-Bri caught me up but managed to stay ahead of him till the end.
I agree the Melbourne loop is cack and spoils the flow but i love the rest of the track, the National circuit with the Goddards chicane is much better . Grats to Jon on the win.
Cheers ;)

That was a nightmare!  It took from the start of practice 1 to 5 mins before the end of quali just to log in, must have reset my PC 6 or 7 times too.  Managed only 1 flying lap and got a mid-27s to be 7th for the race.

No sign of my race setup atall :( so had to make one up from Silverstone, but I had little grip coming out of corners, and not enough front a-r bar.  First half of the race was ok, I could keep pace with the front-runners and was looking most laps at an excellent tussle ahead.  Lap 6 or so I had a good drive out of the chicane and attempted a move on Rich into the hairpin... instantly locked the front brakes and had a helluva job to try and avoid an accident, managed to spy a gap in the cars ahead and shot through it.  Hope I didn't give anyone too much of a heart-attack!  Checked to let Rich back passed but no-one else (sorry boss... didn't think you were that close! :-[) and successfully managed a move into the hairpin a lap or so later.

After that I was on the back of the Greg/Ruskus/Paul battle, struggling for grip a bit but nothing major until I moved the brake balance forward to try and dial-out some under-braking oversteer.  Turn 1 and the front just slid, then snapped oversteer and I slid into the gravel losing a couple of places.  After that the car was far too unstable to push hard, got within a second of Rich again but into T1 again I went off under braking and destroyed the back of the car, lost my rear wing & (worse) a puncture.  Took 3 laps to get out, but after the trouble I'd had getting on the server I was not going to give up!  Kept out of everyone's way of course and trundled in 17th.  Quite annoying after setting the second-fastest time in the race but without a stable setup it was too much to keep up.

I'm also a fan of the national layout, keeps the flow much better and gives a proper under-braking overtaking spot into the final chicane.

You shot right infront of me. I was just like pomptidomtidom through the hairpin, when all of a sudden...VROEM....a fellow Shark shoots infront of me. I was like ??? ??? ???, where id he come from, but I wasn't shocked, nor did I lose concentration. It was just, wel....surprising ;D

Just managed to put in a decent qual lap with seconds to spare at the end of qual which saw me start in 4th place.
Then had a great battle for over half of the race with Ruskus, thanks for not taking me out bud when you spun.

Managed to finish in 2nd, well chuffed.

You were leaving a huge smoke trail on the last lap, twas impossible to see anything when Jan and I came up behind you. Couldn't stop laughing as he swerved all over the place trying to find the track :). Your car was doing it in pracci for a bit as well, damaged I guess and I wasn't being to serious mate.

Ah I get it now Ginst. Don't really know what happened in race though, quali I had radiator at 2 which wasn't enough, upped it for race to 3, which was ok. I checked temps, but both were on 85 when the smoking in race started, hehe. I slowed down when I noticed it though afraid the car wasn't gonna make another lap and had seen Jon was about to lap me anyways, weeeeeeeeeee! So I managed a nice finish :D

Any1 know if the Vette is less reliable than the Bi_T for instance? Never had problems with that 1 before!? And since I'm planning on doing Enduro with the Vette, lol, I'd like to know now ;). So I can praccy another car! :D

If I am placed in front of Jan, can he be put in front of me? Sorry for hairpin punt but I did let you back through, but not sure if you got the place.

There isn't really any way to do that without a lot of artificial buggering around. The relevant rule is:
Quote
Competitors will be classified according to the following criteria, in order:
  • Highest number of laps complete
  • Fastest race time; competitors marked as having retired are classified behind those given a race time
  • Fastest qualifying time

Since you both completed 26 laps, neither of you were given a race time, and you qualified with a faster time, you get classified ahead.

He'd only get 1 or 2 places back anyway.

I am a bit puzzled as to why GTR would tell him the race was over and then DNF him - had the leader taken the flag at that point or not? One for the replay I guess. Not sure there's a lot we can sensibly do about it ??? although if the replay clearly shows him finishing the 26th lap ahead of Jam and it's GTR's mistake that caused him to stop then I will entertain changing the results.

Dave, its not worth your time. I'm fine with things as they are, and Jan may get ahead of me yet anyways  ;).

Twas puzzling though. Never had that before and was pretty sure Jon was finished when I pitted. I will complete lap, then pit, next time. However lets move on, and the sooner I forget Donni the better.

And congrats to Jon, Greg and Paul  8)

Hi Guys,

Nice race ,had a lot of fun,the last lap was great behind that smoking car and SBG closing fast.
Ran out of fuel just before start/finish,and that was it cause there was a full lap to go.Strange bug SBG,bad luck, and as for the place i think the rules are clear i have no problem with that.

All the guys who dislike Doni and are dying to drive a highspeed flowing circuit go and download Road America 1.6 : http://www.xs4all.nl/~blomsan/
Setups by Neel Jani are online.

I seem to remember seeing this problem (race ended message too early) before, and it may well have been at Donington. Perhaps its related to the way the track after the melbourne loop runs very close behind the start/finish line?

Was ok race, happy to finish 4th but a few occassions I could easily have been taken out. Imo I saw some over ambitious driving, a quater of the car on the grass is not faster. Although some turns I was being plain beaten by a few meters!! There was no more than 0.5 seconds between the top ten, if it's that close I don't see how even considering making a pass is an option unless willing to do a bit of side by side action for a few turns which slows both parties down. Wait, learn and enjoy..

Nice stats there btw Ruskus. :)

I had this round Brno GT sprint game told me the race had finished so I crossed the line and hit esc only to find out there was 11 minutes left and finished 5 laps down

I also found this was hard work. I had practiced with soft fronts but wimped out at the last minute to avoid melting the front left tyre. This made it much harder to feel what the car was going to do, so I never felt able to really push hard.

After pinching 3rd in qual the race started OK, behind a rather tentative TrueTom. He made a mistake at macleans which gave me 2nd, but I wasn't able to stretch away. A lap or two later I went a bit deep at the esses and Tom got sucked in too, rear ending me. Luckily I managed to rejoin having only lost a couple of places. The next 10 or so laps were spent following Ruskus, who was glued to Greg's exhaust. I couldn't go any faster but I got the impression they both could if they were not fighting each other. Greg was being ultra cool under pressure and Ruskus was being equally patient looking for a chance - great driving from both. It ended in tears when Ruskas got a bit too close at the loop and spun it trying to avoid Greg's bumper. The rest of the race was just trying to be consistent as my tyres went off, and luckily I held on for third ahead of Rich, who had been plugging away behind for many laps.

Congrats to Jon on the win and Greg for a superbly consistent drive to 2nd.

Paul

Right, Paul, my mistake.  :-[  Hope it didn't cost you too dearly. Was afraid to brake earlier as there was 20 cars right behind me. Either carnage or losing places.

Anyway, after I read posts about expected quali times 1.25 I went for some training as I had so far come to high 1.27. Managed to tweak last seasons setup to go under 1.27 and managed to do that in quali also. Thought quali times are gonna be much faster. Was scared sh ::) tless if I'm to be 1st. Why? No tested race setup. At all. Good move at the of quali session, Jon. He's a Penguin, did you know?  8)   :P

For race I just put on meds and fuel. Not surprisingly FL tyre temp reached 120 in first lap, others close by. Was sliding all over, losing places. Did a risky move on Shark before the first hairpin. Was thinking if I continue like this I will put ppl out. Calmed down on 6th place. Then Zacari went off and I smelled the blood again, overdriving, melted tyres, spinned, quit.

Was totaly possible 2nd place after quicky Jon - like in GT S2, remember? Just a bit more time to test race setup. As there's no more Donington GT there's only NGT S3 left.

Grats Jon!

TT

I thought It was gonna be quicker too TT. But in the end about 0.5 slower in Qual and race. Had a bit of praccy too, just couldn't get the times down, though the tyres seem to hold up way better than last season. Prolly 'cus you weren't right up my you know what :P Think you'd have beaten me if you drove with S2 pace TT. Just glad to have won in the end but still seems like a mountain(gora ;D) to climb to catch Greg. 55 point and 4 races, gonna need a bit of luck but the boy's looking super smooth at the moment 8)

Scare tactics mate ;D. I'm happy how the race went, was huge fun. But I also scared with soft fronts and went for the meds.

Corner cutting discussion split into its own thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1664) as it's no longer really specific to this event.
