LOL - if only that had been the problem. Not a great start to our rental spell with Jolt, fair to say their Tech Support/Customer Relations Teams have loads of room for improvement. However, in a years time when we've had 11 months great racing without a server hic-cup this period of pain will be a dim distant memory.

Have there been anymore NetKar patches?

Title: Re: nkPro Fun - 26th May
Post by: mo on May 22, 2006, 06:40:19 PM +0100
No ....and a lack of news of a patch date is a bit worrying.
One thing for sure is that the next patch will only address MP issues, so thats a good thing.

Having said that I was in a couple of recent online races using skins where there was no warping or weirdness, its just so different to GTR/GTL that its offputting for some folk imo.

Have you thought about using skins for Friday? Its the only way to know who's who on track.
They're much simpler in NK , just one file, no LODS, no hires or lowres crap either.
Also not everyone needs to have them installed - if anyone joins who doesn't have a skin then a plain carbon look skin is applied, so there is no need for testing.

Cheers,
Mo.

netKar Pro is a seperate game in it's own right. Nothing to do with GTR/GTL/rFactor. See http://www.netkar-pro.com/eng/home.html

I think you need to purchase a license to join in with tonights fun race.

The 2000 is a bit too easy to drive, once you get the damn thing started!

I prefer the 1600/1800 too.

Funnily enough I enjoyed that, 2 wins for Team Shark  ;D

Sorry for the earlier problems, me not being able to type again. Spelt the car class wrong  :-[

The 1800's are much more fun than the 2000's with their wings to hold everything together but I really struggled during P1 and Qual with the gear changes when we reverted to the 1800's. Come the race and it was all pretty good. Thanks for coming, hope you get the sound problems sorted SbG.

Title: Re: nkPro Fun - 26th May
Post by: mo on May 26, 2006, 10:31:00 PM +0100
Well done to Picnic on the two wins  8)

Hard luck to SBG with the tech worries - I had the same problem until I put sound latency back up to 50ms.....dont know if you've changed it?
I had great fun anyway - no weirdness or warping, no bouncing cars or suspension parts, in fact I've played 2000km online so far and generally the game play is excellent.

The 1800 was a big shock to the system after the FRenault. One thing about NK is the setup - if its wrong it just doesn't stay on the track, never mind give good laptimes.
Here's what I smudged together on the spot.... think its pretty ok
http://homepage.eircom.net/~mo44/gtr/f1800_prato_mo.nks

Thanks for the server Picnic, and well done again.

Thanks for going the extra mile Picnic  :). Enjoyed that, well the first bit anyways.

Tried that Mo, and reinstall, but nothings fixed it. I still get constant banging sound with 1800 cars whether online or offline. Oddly,  only appeared after I tried to alter set-up in 1800 after reinstall and gets louder, and faster, the lower I set up the car  ???. The car is also impossibly difficult to drive (massive oversteer) and am sure you must have had fun in a very different vehicle, sure it was different before patch. Totally exasperated. Am I the only one with X-Fi sound card? I know there are some issues with it and games.

Clearly not the necessary interest in Nk here, but hopefully some fun races will still take place. I enjoy it so much that might have to look for a league, just as long as they don't involve the 1800's  :).

To me it sounds like maybe one wheel is stuck underneath the road surface. I get banging sometimes after fiddling with the setup on a damaged car, but it rights itself after "fixing" it. I wonder if you could launch yourself off a hill and maybe get it free?

Sounds like you have a corrupted setup maybe, or something with the tyre physics has gone haywire.
Does the problem still exist if you load a different setup before starting the session?
Have you changed tyres? You've always got the same tyres even after a reboot, and even after you re-paste in the original nk install AFAIK, because the current tyre file is only created after you drive (not in the install).

Try these and let us know how it goes...
Cheers,
Mo.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I downloaded a 1800 set up from RSC, used it and problem solved. Points to corrupted set up file I guess.

Now I see why you wanted to use the 1800's. Can we do it again? ;)

Glad to hear you've got the issue sorted.
Even though the new setup solved it I still think that its a sound latency thing that causes it in the first place.. I had all sorts of problems, including constant banging in the 1600/1800 cars, until I put the sound latency back up to 50ms. Sometimes I got the problem when starting the car too - the starter sound would continue forever.

Now I see why you wanted to use the 1800's. Can we do it again? ;)

I'm sure we can convince Picnic to come back and defend his unbroken run of wins ;)

Was wondering how this game was coming along. I take it from reading your posts that its still badly bugged and none too well supported  ???

Shame as it would have been good to have a good single seater sim to race you lot with as well as the tin-tops.

The suspicion is that Kunos has sold or partnered with someone in regard to the game engine, hence the 6 week silence. He was very vocal on RSC before 6 weeks ago and since then absolutely nothing, nadda, zip, so there is obviously something going on (or not). Of course it could be something really bad like he died.  :( :o

LOL, this might console some of his happier customers over at RSC. And I'll be up for any Friday NK race days.

Mark, for gods sake, spend the 30 notes and join in  ;). Although its undeniably broken, and may never be fixed, I have still had a good return for the amount invested (I spent more getting a blinding headache and depressed watching Eng vs Swe last week).

LOL, it doesn't appear to be slowing him down much though judging by the speed of the flying pasty I saw last night  ;D

btw Mark I cant recommend NK enough. The feedback is unbelieveable and the physcics are great. In these two areas its simply the best sim imo.
There are a few minor bugs though :D. Having said that I've had great races online and the driving quality is awesome  8)

Edit to say that I'm on for any nk fun races too. Hopefully get a bigger grid than last time.

Still no great interest in NK then  :-[. Oh well, it saddens me to see such a great base of a sim go to waste, shame on Kunos.

The A1G thing is enjoyable stuff, the feeling of speed is very good. In fact, since returning from my WC sabbatical, not really been drawn back to GTR and have really enjoyed some Rfactor stuff purely for fun. Mind you, my choices change like the wind.

If your just doing online pick-up races look at GRC (http://ccgi.motormania.plus.com/phpBB2/index.php) as its a no-commitment-to-race place. Just waiting for SRou to decide that rF is worthy of a championship :D

I personally think it is, but it's not up to me. There needs to be a critical mass of drivers who actually want to participate in a championship for one or two specific mods.

Aye, but SRou is self selecting, ie people join because they have bought GTR or/and GTL, and the proportion of those will have rF is never going to be near that because they joined here because they have one or the other... If you start an rF league, people will come who have rF.

I tried nKPro recently again after getting hold of the Monaco, Silverstone and Zandvoort track and I have to say I just don't get it.

The force feedback is wierd, the driving position is awful (I hate being forced in cockpit as I just cant drive there), lack of virtual mirrors is madness and the sound is just dire. But the main thing I just don't like how they drive, it just doesn't feel right. I don't get this whole "fantastic physics" or "fantastic feel of the car underneath".

Just my opinion but I actually prefer rFactor to nKPro in pure terms of feel, obviously rFactor is far superior in EVERYTHING else. GTR/GTL/GTR 2 are still better than rFactor for feel too!

Looking forward to trying something new in a championship format. Single seaters is totally different from anything else we do atm. Although quite frankly, i'm quite looking forward to driving at all, been so busy at work I just have no time for SimRacing.
