Can i also ask that our faster alien-esque drivers dont take the best cars to give the rest of us mortals a fighting chance  :-*  But as in the real world, fast drivers tend to get given the fastest cars! So again, i'm not put out either way.
Maybe someone can post a performance table up of the car set so people can choose a suitable steed? (looking at FMG/Goldtop for their knowledge!)

@SRW, if you could get the mod installed on the server and a praccy server up at your earliest convenience it would be most appreciated  :euro:  Only took me about 5mins to install it and copy the handful of files from the Lotus and F312 folders.  :)

Can't help on a performance set - I've driven about 6 cars so far on different tracks.
In all honesty I think the speeds will relate more to finding car's that drive 'your' way. So for me the Hesketh is great because it's pretty tail-happy, I also went quite well at Dijon in a BRM as it handles very well - but is (in RL at least) out-classed in all other respects. For comparison I was equal or slower in the 312 - which was the car to beat in the real series but didn't drive in a way I liked.

As for Silverstone - I say the '67 variant, only Woodcote is different as opposed to the entire track.
Also the old layout is better for racing on, nearly every corner is a passing oportunity - The newer layouts were all just exercises in slowing the cars down and became more and more fiddly.
If the track is fun (the 'Ring, Zandy 67, Rouen, Clermont etc.) then I'm all for fighting the track, but if it's a choice between fighting a dull track or other drivers then the other driver option always wins ;)

I've "tested" all of the cars in the sense that I've had a blast around Silverstone National for a few laps in each one on default settings....maybe adjusting brake balance here or there. I've also had a few short races against the AI on a few different tracks.

My impressions are that the cars are pretty much evenly matched and that driver ability and practise/setup will count far more than car choice. Might be good fun and spice things up a bit if us mortals could pair up with the quicker drivers to have a manufacturers championship  :)

That was my findings too after trying 4 different cars at Silverstone 90 last night.

interesting proposition, but would only work if we had a good turnout  :-\ otherwise it might be only 4-5 teams of 2 drivers, which means only 4 or 5 car makes present.

Track confirmed as the stock Kunos historic Silverstone layout so one less mod to worry about  :)  I prefer the 90's layout personally but will stick with period correct.

sorry SRW saw your message too late to check the lobby and now i'm stuck at work.

Did an offline race weekend with the AI last night and really enjoyed it. A full grid of these looks spectacular!  8)  The AI even put up a good race. My PB in qually was a 1:21.9 (driving the Hesketh) which got me 3rd but top two were on 1:21.8 so not far off.

I recommend having an offline race to get used to racing these in traffic, but the cars behave very well and even the odd 4 wheel drift is controllable. Just dont thump the low concrete walls on the inside apex or its an instant bent steering arm! Love the grass pick up on the tyres if you run wide too, quality mod.

The real test will be to see what times our resident fast guys put in, so look forward to seeing some lap times on the server via stracker.  :)

Server works fine SRW, many thanks for sorting  :)  Any chance we can have a welcome message telling people about srouk (with a link) and upcoming F1 '75 series?

There were 3 of us on there already this eve, I only popped on to test it and ended up staying an hour   There was a new name on there who I was intending to invite but he left before I chatted to him. He tried several cars so may be keen.  :)

I have looked over the server template  and found the problem, (I made a copy of my Sunday night template and modified it, but there are different port numbers on the Wednesday night version. After modifying the Wednesday night template it starts ok)
Expect you understand now but the different port numbers allow us to run multiple instances at the same time

Gents, sorry to drop this on you with a few days until the race, but we need to patch our F1 '75 install with the 1.1 patch below as it has several physics fixes.
However, the server will not be updated until this evening so if you intend to practise today then dont install it yet!  Hopefully the server will be patched from about 7.30pm tonight but look out for notices.

[RELEASED] FORMULA ONE 1975

!!!!!2018-04-02 PHYSICS UPDATE 1.1!!! Link at bottom of post
Changelog:
- Steering geometry of all mod cars changed. Enhanced Ackerman for better initial turn in and thus driving fun Smiley Somehow AC handles Ackerman geometry counter intuitive.

- Simply extract files to your car directory and overwrite previous version 1.05. (You need to have v1.05 full mod installed)

I have made the following changes to the server:

Updated the cars to the latest version

Reduced the race length to 5 minutes

altered the welcome text to say '1975 F1'

Could someone please confirm it is working correctly, if there is a problem i will be able to go back on the server after the GTL race

All works fine SRW, thanks for patching the server  :)

Patch to 1.1 folks.

Seems to have affected my saved setup though  :( feared that when I read they had tweaked steering as that’s what I’ve worked on to get my laptime within a few tenths of Fabri  :'( now I’m getting oversteer on acceleration a tad.

I'm currently suffering from Lurgy - It's questionable if I'll even be on to practice tonight as a result.
If I'm off work tomorrow (highly tempting) I'll find time to practice in something or other - I'll be at the race regardless of anything short of actual death/hospitalisation though...

Ok, my job as test driver is completed.  :D

I tryed most cars, at least the most famous ones. They all look pretty close in lap-times. I think that Tyrrell, Lotus, McLaren and maybe Ferrari (not drove) are a bit faster than rest, but only for few tenths. BRM is absolutely the most funny to drive.

About tyres. After 20 laps with Soft, I started have the rear left yellow from AC-app and a considerable oversteering, losing 1-2 seconds for lap. With Hard car seems not so slower as I thought, about 0,5-0,7s for lap. So I have no idea what tyres are better for race, maybe I will use the hard compound.
NB: With hard the rear tyres are smaller than soft ones so heights and gears speeds change.

PS: Mark, I went into 1.20 zone  8) But I'm sure some people here will do better.

I saw that Fabri, well done  :o 8)

I found the hards gave a fair bit of understeer, did you adjust your setup to compensate?

I will be in either a Shadow, Hesketh or a Tyrell tomorrow eve  :)

Yes, the understeering is because with hards the rear is lower than with softs. I increased the rear height a bit. Check also gears, with hards also that change.

I would take Williams.

Seems like a very solid mod to me. Thought there might be a bug with rear tyre dimensions of the softs (as mentioned earlier in thread) but there's plenty of room in the setup for adjustment so maybe that's just the way they were back in the day. Cool detail if that's the case.

Didn't notice any problems or weirdness and the car drove well throughout the race. Fuel usage might be slightly off....I put in enough for 30 laps but had to slow down on last lap as I was well into the red. I put a wheel on the grass on the s/f straight which spun me into the pit wall as expected. Not a heavy impact but some minor damage which didn't seem to affect the car too much so 70% damage is probably about right. Tyre wear was fine....I was on hards and had probably 60% remaining on my rear left at race end.

If we have a series I'll probably stick with the Parnelli car if that's ok.

well LOL that was fun,  but starting a new undriven car 20 min before qually probably wasn't the best plan, so I'll use that as my excuse for being dog slow tonight  :P

Apologies to sir barone,  I don't usually forget to put it into gear at the start  :wetfish: - hope that didn't mess up your race!

For the proper races can we please have a grid of 10 x 2 car teams or similar and everyone has to pre-select a car and stick with it,  because tonight I was just trying to pick a car no one else had practised for days so I didn't mess up their race, and it didn't really work out  :P

really enjoyed that last night, nice to have some proper racing with other humans for the first time in ages with a quasi-decent grid of 12? only need a few more and thats the full compliment of F1 75 cars  :)

Couldnt match my pb's in qually predictably, wasnt used to other cars about distracting! but still got on the 2nd row.

Had a good start off the line but the car then bogged down when i must have changed up too early whilst glancing at the cars on either side of me heading down to T1  :o  to avoid any chance of contact i took a wider line but the combo of off-line lack of grip and cold hard tyres made the car a real struggle for lap1 whilst several cars on softs got amongst us. There were all sorts of battles going on throughout the grid as guys swapped places, any lift of the throttle would immediately allow 2 or 3 cars past. I had a torrid first couple of laps until my tyres got some temp and took me while to start getting my rhythm back and clawing back places which was fun  :)
I even caught up with Fabri at one point, he must have had an off, but he gradually eeked away from me in 3rd place.
Finished 4th, almost dripping with sweat from the effort! (is the ffb slightly ramped up for these? - felt realistic anyway)

Cars looked ace in action and on the grid and many drivers seem to be on similar pace which bodes well for racing  :thumbup1:

For the series we will have a drivers file so your chosen car will be assigned to you (maximum 2 of each type will be allowed). Personally i still want to try out the rest of the set so will ask if we can run the practise server a bit longer.  :)

As GT stated, there looked to be no issues with this mod and these are great for racing.
The new physics mod and the switch to hards caught me out though. I noticed on the grid that my toe settings where totally off. Had to ride around that during the race. Still it looks like tweaking the setup again can make it behave.

Start of the race was nice with this bigger grid and had some good scraps all race long. Unfortunately i was quite tired and by the end of the race i clipped the grass and damaged the car. Was still be able to bring it over the line. Had good fun.

Ohh and like MJ I would like some more praccy time to establish a preferred car list and create some sort of decent base set-up. Always takes me a while and i don't have a lot of spare time.

Race was really nice, with good grid numbers.

I qualified 2nd. For some minutes I was thinking I could have the pole position, but fmg is merciless.  ;D

I started very well and I was first at T1, then I fought side by side with fmg for some corners and I was behind him at Stowe braking. From mirrows I saw a car to come forward from the group with relative ease. He was Jari with soft tyres, and he passed me too at Stowe.
It was a intense battle with Jari, throughout the race. This has benefited fmg, who took a slight advantage.
At 10 (or more) laps to end I did a stupid mistake at Copse, doing a 360 like a teenager with the dad's car. I lost a lot of time. I started push hard possible, having also free road in front. I was able to cut the gap and put pressure again on Jari (now with tyres troubles) and after a his small mistake, I passed him and took the 2nd position.
Great fight, Jari!

Fun race.

Hi Max no problem at all!
I unfortunately have big problems with AC yesterday. I was only able to get 8-10 min practise and in a car that I never tried before... was a completely mess. But fun anyway in the first laps.
