Can't make this one unfortunately as I'm out with friends, my social life is pretty hard to arrange these days so have to make the most of it when I can.

In case you didn't see it in the other topic,  I put 2 cars for each popular team, and 1 each for the less popular to hit the max 24 car grid (brands limit), so hopefully everyone gets the car they want  :)

Well that was fun, I really like the fact its closed the grid up a bit and made it harder to pass  :)

I have the results json files from the server, so I can send them if someone(mr Picnic?)  wants to post them to the site ( no idea how that works...).

Thanks for hosting tonight Max  :)

I was having a good race chasing the lotus for 1st but I then hit a stationary warped car on a corner entry and pitched me off the track. Rejoined way down the grid. :'(
After 25mins I started to feel hot and sick and had to retire. I think a combo of jet lag and the swooping curves of brands made me feel ropey with the hot rift  :

We could do with a practise server running for the next week to let people dip in and out with different cars to try

These cars are quite fun. Also when running on your own.
I did notice the warping from Jari also. I have had that in earlier races too. Jari are you on Wifi maybe?

That was the first time I have really driven the Mclaren in anger,  and now I understand others comments about weird steering, but I found at least some of the reason.  Under high load (compression or braking) the front suspension compresses so much the floor hits the ground and takes the weight of the car - the front tyres loose a lot of grip and it all gets a bit funky. This happened really badly at the  bottom of Paddock hill , in Dingle Dell dip, and braking for Hawthorns very noticeably. Stiffening the front end will cure it,  but I also noticed some oddity with front right wheel alignment in the pits,  and I don't think it was just the wonky pitlane, so will have to check that on a flat surface...

I might be requesting a team transfer yet, will have to test it properly and decide.

my car was often getting very out of shape under braking at Hawthorns, the bump there was trying to tear the steering wheel out of my grip! I had to hold the wheel tightly everytime which kind of made me smile as i expect it was the same for the real guys over the bumps in these cars  :)
I raised the car a notch but possibly should have added more bump and rebound to cope with it.

I saw the new patch apparently had fixes to the Mclaren so assumed it was the odd steering physics they had fixed. :-\ Its the only car so far where i noticed an oddity in handling.

I just checked that and it was just Brands pit lane being that far off,  so now I just need to work on the setup a bit more

I need more time to understand the Ferrari. It was never one of my favorites. When you start pushing to the limit, the car becomes very difficult to drive. Probably needs another driving approach and another setup. I had made one yesterday, but it seemed pretty bad.
Yesterday afternoon, before reading the announcement of the race, I had done tests to compare the times at Silverstone. The 312T didn't seem too fast, or at least, it's not easy to do fast laps in a short time. The Tyrrell, Brabham and Lotus seemed to me to be much more friendly and immediately fast.
The Hesketh is another car that is very difficult and not easy to push.

I will do more practice and I will try take the Ferrari for championship (since nobody wants to take it). Unfortunately, Tim and I have even the Friday races (with another group) and need split the time.

About race. I did a start in perfect Villeneuve's style. As when he had to test the new turbo Ferrari engine and Forghieri (if I remember well) said: "go easy Gilles, just do kilometers for testing the engine. He did only one corner".  ;D
In any case I would have done a few laps, I was pretty tired.

Drive the March ;)
The default is so low it even bottoms out on fast straights due to the downforce  :D
So far it's the car I've spent longest on to get upto speed, followed by the P34 I think as that seems to share the same bugs the real one suffered from!

@fmg how did you get that dfv sound mod to work? i tried it for the brabham but it removed the engine noises. Do you have to rename all the entries in the guid.txt file to match the .bank name for the car?

Yup, that's the babber. Use notepad and Control+H to replace all instances within the guid.txt. I renamed all to match the names of the original files to be safe (Including the name of the bank file).
Once you get it working go out on a lone test at Silverstone or Zandy and use camera set 2  8)

Stiffer and higher fixes it - it seems to be as a result of how far the nose projects in front of the front wheels. Cars with higher noses like the Hesketh and Lotus don't seem to suffer at all. The March has a huge nose so can scrap even if you just raise the back a bit
