Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

Practiced a lot on this great track over the weekend, but not in these cars (testing Nappe1's new cars and carset in GTL & after a long break the Cobra's in GTR2 P&G (which
in my impression were easier to drive in combination with Geoffer's GTL setup than in GTL))  :P

Although I never was competitive in these beasts the races I participated were all fun.

Thanks Tony and all involved fpr organising this series.  :thumbup1:

Congratulations to Geoffers for the Championship win & to Erling and Clive for podium places.  :thumbup2:

CU on track.

Grats to Geoffers and Erling on a closely fought championship. I was just lucky to pick up the crumbs from the table of the Masters throughout this series lol. Thanks to Tony for organising yet again  ;)

I have always like the insanity of big V8 American cars, with far too much torque for the available grip. I guess that because I do not have the gossamer like touch on the gas that Geoffers and Erling are blessed with, I find that when the tyres run out I have to rely on Rallying skills lol. Which explains my "flamboyant" driving at times.

Once again I find that as a series comes to the last few rounds I am beginning to understand the subtleties of the setups/driving technique and how to adjust things to extend that precious tyre life. Last nights race at Mid-Ohio was a classic case in point.
I had done my usual server/car test during the afternoon so that I knew all was OK for the evenings hostilities. A few laps using the setup from the last race quickly highlighted the challenging aspect of this track ( well it was for me!!). All those slow corners where you must brake early and avoid a lock-up and having got the beast into the corner you are waiting, and waiting, to get on the gas again without losing the rear end  :-\
TBH, from my few test laps I had no great expectations for the evening's races and thought I was going to be way off the pace, so I was pleasantly surprised to be within 2 secs of the fastest guys.
The Cobra setup that I have evolved is now a joy to drive, with totally predictable handling, and along with that, very good tyre wear. During Race 1 I was able to put that to good use after being mugged by 2 Orange Corvettes at T2 on lap one lol ( I could be forgiven for believing that it was a Chevy conspiracy to eliminate the Ford challenge??). I thought that, as is normal these days, Geoffers had checked out up front and after I got rolling and passed a few cars I was getting glimpses of what I thought might be Matt and Erling up ahead.
I had the label tags turned on and as they disputed the position I think they were slowing each other so I was able to close the gap until their identity was confirmed. It was now my Cobra vs 2 Corvettes for what I thought was 2nd place and the difference between the cars became obvious. The Corvettes were quicker on the straights but I found that my Cobra was much more nimble through those very slow corners and I just had to wait for an opening(s) which I was able to take advantage of. Once pas them I was simply happy to consolidate my 2nd place, or so I thought, until I crossed the line to discover that my work with a voodoo doll and many pins had caused Geoffers to have a very rare nightmare race.
Race 2 in the Corvette was not so good, as this car has not yet been "tamed" by my setup skills. It is better than at the start of the season, but still causes me "ring flutter" under heavy braking, so to work my way up to 3rd after a physical tussle with Tony in the early laps was quite satisfying.
No more muscle cars until next season? but still a grin on my face.

Grats to the podium, also the series champs and to Erling just a few point behind.  Thanks to Tony for organizing the series.   I enjoyed driving the Vette and even the Cobra on some tracks.  I never could get the setup right on it so it would get off the corners and also had trouble with it wanting to swap ends under hard braking.  We used this car some over on GC back in the old days and I always tried to avoid it as my car choice.  Thanks for the races to all!!!!

Well I must admit to being surprised that I won the championship, after my first race errors & 5th place finish, I was sure that Erling's 2nd place in race 2 was enough for him to win it.

As I say, first race was a comedy of errors. After taking the lead & getting a comfortable gap, I gave it a bit too much throttle over the crest between T6 & T7, got out of shape & was on the grass before I could save it. Grass here has virtually no grip at all & I slid all the way to the barriers, I guess so far off that Clive didn't see me as he went past along with Matt & Erling. Just caught back up with the leaders when I got too much kerb at T7 & spun the car & a couple of laps later lost it braking for T3 & hit the barriers again, was very lucky the car was still driveable & was able to finish 5th.

Race 2 was much better, kept the Corvette on the track & although Erling was never far behind was able to ease the pace over the last few laps & bring it home.

Congrats to Clive, Erling & Matt on their podiums.

Congrats to Erling & Clive for 2nd & 3rd in the Championship.

Thanks to Tony for organising this series & to all who took part.   :notworthy: :notworthy:

Hope to see most of you for Nappe's new Monday night series.

Trying my damnedest to no avail probably best describes yesterday's races.  A no show & 2 bad results by Geoffers had injected some unexpected excitement into what had seemed a long decided series.  Under no illusions about my chances, so knowing I needed all the help I could get, I decided to download and try Geoffers' setups back from the first race.  Regrettably, or fortunately perhaps, they didn't make me any faster than my own concoctions, so at least I didn't have to kick myself over not trying them sooner.

Not a good start in race 1, losing a place to Clive, but then once again, I got driven off track at T2 on L1. Clive, who was ahead of me got hit too, ending up behind me, so can't say if it affected the final result.  Clive, you were mugged by an orange car alright, but it was a Cobra, not a Corvette..  ;)

As Clive mentioned, he slipped past while I was battling Matt, and shortly after, Matt spun letting us both past.  Rest of the race was a fight with Clive, but I just couldn't get to pose a challenge, try as I might. At no point during the race did I realise we were fighting for the lead. Had not noticed we passed Geoffers, and obviously I didn't read the pit board carefully enough.  Didn't even notice Geoffers when he closed up from behind before going off again, so focused was I on Clive.  Wouldn't have mattered anyway, as I couldn't have gone any harder than I already did.

Better start in race two, but still had to tuck in behind Matt at T1.  Later when he had a wobbly moment over a curb, I slipped past. Having him fill my mirrors was worrying, so tried my hardest to stretch the gap, but met with limited success until he spun off.  Could concentrate on chasing Geoffers, but just couldn't close the gap.

Grats to Geoffers & Clive on their wins, and to Matt on his podium.

Grats to Geoffers on the Championship; a worthy winner.  Wouldn't have been fair if I had won, as he was also here in a class completely of his own  :notworthy:

Thanks to Tony for this impromptu series, but relieved to get Monday off again.  Two series a week really is too much.  It is 23:43, and only now can I start practicing for tomorrow's race, including deciding on what class/car to use!!

After reading Erlings last paragraph...…
Maybe, if I want to challenge the dynamic duo who always seem to be out of reach for my limited talents, I should reduce my simracing commitments. I currently race 4 times per week ( 2 X GPL, Sun & Tues, then 2 X GTL  Mon & Wed) and rarely do any preparation or practice for any of them, which probably explains a lot  ::). But I do enjoy the competition..and it is for fun.  ;)

Other than doing a quick check that I have the correct circuit and car set ready for UKGTL, within the preceeding 12/24hrs, all of my race prep is done in the 30 mins before each race for GPL and GTL. The only exception might be ( if free time allows, or my wife is monopolising the tv remote  :-\) when the server check shows up a totally new and complex circuit. Then I might spend enough time to at least learn which way the next corner goes, but that never gets as far as fine tuning setups/setting fast laps etc.
With all my races I usually take a look at the fastest laps displayed above the race post in SROU and use that as a target time in the 30 mins before the race to judge where I am.
FWIW I rarely bother with a qualifying setup as I personally find them misleading. If I set a qually lap on race fuel, then I have a fair indication of where I am vs the other cars. If all have set their time on race fuel, then I have a true comparison, but if some have set their grid time on very low fuel, then I should be much closer ( or possibly faster) in the race. Also, my poor brain does not have to adapt to a "heavy" car in the first few laps of the race, where there are already enough reasons to get things wrong  :-\

Like Clive I race several times a week, 2 GTL races & 1 or 2 Raceroom events & also since Christmas I have been doing a number of races on the Raceroom ranked servers, although not recently with my steering wheel problems. I know most of the circuits we use, so not often a need to learn a circuit & I have setups for most of the cars we use, so just a matter of finding the last setup for a particular car & adapting it for the particular circuit. So usually 30-40 minutes practice with a car is plenty to prepare for a race, in fact once I have done one or two setup adjustments I get bored of just driving around trying to go faster or improve the setup & move on to something else. So it is only when using a new car or circuit that I spend extensive time practicing.

We each have different ways of approaching this obviously - if I raced 4 times a week, I would have to give up my day job!!  (May be given up for me soon, as there's no work currently, but that's an entirely different story  :().

I wish I was 'naturally fast' and could get by with next to no practice, like you and a certain alien I believe.  If I want a good result however, and I have enough of a competitive mindset to want that, then I need practice, and lots of it.  If I work on setups, which is still very much a black art to me, I need a lot of laps to judge if the changes I made, made things better or worse, unless it has a very profound and immediate effect, and it seldom has.   As I like to know what I'm up against, I often run full stints, or even full race distances in practice, to see how bad tyre wear gets, and perhaps work out a pit strategy, if one is needed.

Qualifying I usually do on a lighter fuel load, as I'm almost always faster in a lighter car. Fuel load is usually the only difference between race and qual setup though - I'm not advanced enough to change other things!

In addition, we've increasingly been moving towards multi-race, multi-car events, which requires even more preparation time.  Now it's not unusual to have to prepare 2 or even 3 cars, and in the Australian series you can pick the 3 out of 5 each event - can you imagine how time consuming it is for someone with my approach ?

Today's series, with multi-class, multi-car options is almost just as bad, unless you just pick a random car/class and stick with it.

You guys often laud my consistency; well I guess anyone doing so many practice laps ought to be consistent..  ::)

I have a setup guide that I printed out from NoGrip many years ago that I use. I will reproduce the main part of it below, it may help some of you. I have another much more comprehensive one that I obtained from another website, but I find it a bit too confusing so rarely consult it. Before using this guide you really need to determine where the car is not responding as you would like.

Here it is:

Understeers into corner
Soften front bump
Stiffen rear rebound
Soften front springs
Harden rear springs

Oversteers into corner
Stiffen front bump
Soften rear rebound
Harden front springs
Soften rear springs

Understeers mid-corner
Soften front roll bar
Stiffen rear roll bar

Oversteers mid-corner
Stiffen front roll bar
Soften rear roll bar

Understeers on exit
Soften front rebound
Stiffen rear bump

Oversteers on exit
Stiffen front rebound
Soften rear bump

Caster – more generally helps turn in but you can go too far, keep increasing until it feels like it is not improving then go back a touch.

Tyre pressures – even temperature spread across the tyres when hot.

Camber – set so that tyre temps are a few degrees hotter on the inside.

Front toe – a little negative at the front helps turn in.

Rear toe – more positive helps to control oversteer, use 0 on low powered cars.

Brake bias – Keep moving to rear to help turn in until car gets unstable on the brakes, then go back a couple of percent towards the front.
