We will be starting 2020 Sundays with an ACC race!

GT3's + Spa

Accelerated time - start in daylight, race through the night and finish in daylight!

More details will follow. ACC is still a steep learning curve for me so it will be a case of changing things as we go along

@picnic, when you get a chance could you look into the server settings we will need?

I'll take a look, hopefully the documentation is less ambiguous about somethings compared with when I last looked.

The v1.2 patch landed yesterday and a bunch of people are claiming VR performance went up noticeably...  might be worth trying again

The first ever Sunday night ACC race this week!

@Picnic, are you able to get a practice server up and running? Are you still available for server duties on the night?

:(Just spent a couple of hours in VR, an improvement but still way below AC in terms of performance. Not impressed at all but may try Sundays race if feel like it.

I won't make this one :(

I have ACC but I just cant get it to work right (since day of the release I'm having VR stutters with it).

I'll be exclusively AC for a long time it seems like.

Whats wrong with using a monitor instead of a new fangled headset?

I take it you haven't got one of these new fangled headsets? :P
Best way to explain is to ask if you'd be willing to wear an eye patch you couldn't see though over one eye for the entire race? Or during a real life trackday to give a more accurate representation ;)
And I say this while fully accepting that 1st gen VR has pretty rubbish resolution, and therefore picture quality too..

Monitors give absolutely no sense of distance or immersion any more, and even more critically you can't look where you want to - while I was working on the cameras and AI for Monaco I did a fair bit of driving with the monitor.
I couldn't find my lines or my braking/throttle points. It also makes it much harder to keep track of your opponents and/or forces you to use the virtual mirror, which is a full on immersion breaker for me.
I was rubbish and it wasn't fun.

As for this upcoming race I'm tempted to try ACC in VR again to see if it's do-able, but I accidentally broke my button box earlier in the week and ACC has a pretty high requirement for those controls.
I definitely won't be in the new V8 Vantage if I do though, that has to be one of the worst sounding cars I've ever heard :D

Might take the V12 or a Porsche as I've not really driven them yet if I do appear.

The biggest problem with me in VR is the mirrors, can see nothing until a car is right behind. Had one of these new fangled thingies for the last 4 years and find it hard to revert to a 24 inch monitor  ;D ;D. But if I can find a 128 core cpu and a 3080ti gpu  in the Jan sales things should improve...…….. :thumbup2:

I haven't tried VR in ACC for ages as I prefer seeing the stunning graphics via my triple monitors but will give it a try out.

i'll be selling my Rift VR headset fairly soon if anyone is interested in a bargain priced Oculus before I stick it on e-bay? Just ordered myself a new fangled Rift S as a xmas present to myself  ;)  :)

Am still hoping to race sunday night but I haven't done a single lap of any track over the xmas break  :'(  The Italians go back tomorrow so maybe I can get some 'me-time' before sundays race.

I've updated the server and started a practice session/race weekend on it. You'll need the default SRou password (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2929.0) to access it. Seems Public and Private servers have different settable options and it would be nice to get some feedback before Sunday's race if it's not configured correctly.

I think I'll give up FFB before I give up VR and go pancake mode.

But all joking aside, monitor is not possible with my rig as I don't have one for it and its just not something I could go back to.

Did a 4 hour race here with the day night transition. It's cool.

I connected to our server just now, where it's set to Monza, but I got disconnected after 1.5 laps. Did someone stop the server? About 21:26.

Not sure if I'll make this one.  I'm on to the final leg of finishing my motion system so that takes priority, but if its done in time I will try and be there!

Appears I had a syntax error in the config file so rather than tell me it just picked some default values.....

Hopefully fixed now.

I haven't tried VR yet, I guess you don't miss what you've never had! sticking with 27" triples at the moment. I think I will need a PC update before I switch to VR

I have updated the first post in this thread. We will be using a x18 time multiplier which should give us a day/night/day cycle for the race.

That was far from enjoyable.

The Honda is an understeering pig and had a lagging Nissan infront for the first half of the race. Decided to pit early and I think my pitstop was bugged, turned the engine off and it took seconds for anything to happen. Then after they jacked the car up, the car dropped again and it started the animation again  ::).

With 15 minutes to go I only saw my name and Simon at the bottom, so I guess something went wrong and I quit out.

Had to race the whole time with my legs crossed, as there wasn't enough time for a quick pee before the start  :P. And I also had to calculate my fuel during the formation lap  :-X.

Lost everyone else about 15 minutes to go. Carried on anyway as no idea what was happening. Just had Jeffs name and mine on the display and won easily with nobody else on the track. Ch-ching.

not really sure what happened to me, I was getting waved blue flags for the last part of the race, but no one behind me. there also seemed to be clouds of dust at certain points on the track as though some one had gone off.

Apart from that it was good to do a day/night/day race at Spa!

Standard ACC then, it still doesn't work.
I hadn't touched it for 6 months, think I'll have another 6 off and stick to AC then.

According to Steam, 5 times more people played AC last month than ACC, a good indication of how broken it still is. The potential is there but way short of being finished.

Well, I'm playing nothing but ACC and only do AC for SRou races occasionally. Nothing broken about it until we use the server here from what I've played.

i had hoped to race as not tried ACC since about september, but spent half a day in the hospital and another half setting up my new Rift S / re-configuring my triple monitors as i had to do some re-cable jiggery to free up a display port. No chance for any laps sadly so thought best not race plus i didnt have the will after all that.
Shame to hear ACC might still have issues but considering the big servers running it elsewhere with large grids i suspect it may be un-familiarity our end?

Well triples are very good :thumbup1:,  VR is similar in as far you're able to have correct FOV and see way more of whats around around you, and then it adds another bit more of the feeling of being there because its all you see, and turning you head doesn't run past the end of the screen  :)

Maybe although there are in theory only the JSON files to instruct it. However I suspect the game is suitably buggy that if you give it a combination of values it doesn't like it's unpredictable rather than than reporting problems to you.

Possibly as a result there will be no results for this event. I have practice and qualification but there is no race results file.

Must be something we are not getting right this end though as one server runs 50 car grids every Wednesday!  :o you can read about it on the acc kunos forum, called big grid.

It's cause the game crashed during race, so no results file.

I miss read the messages then, I though some people got kicked not it all went AWOL.

Might be we can't run ACC at the same time as other race servers, there are GTL events going on simultaneously on a Wednesday evening. That means testing on night when the server is unused.
