While the TV camera that comes with this track is OK for slower cars (It's great with the Reliant Robin ;D (2:57 to beat for any other idiots on here)) it sucks for faster stuff - especially in VR...
So I made some better ones - to install them drop the 2 files in the RAR into "'Your AC folder'\content\tracks\monaco_osrw_1.1\data".

You'll know it's the right place as there will already be a file called "cameras.ini" in there. I highly recommend you use the camera set named SpeedCam for the opening lap of the race - I certainly intend to ;)
The NoiseCam also happens to work really quite well in VR, despite the zoom functions being disabled..

https://www.dropbox.com/s/11y0nom4yr23gyx/Monaco_osrw_1.1%20extra%20cameras.rar?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/11y0nom4yr23gyx/Monaco_osrw_1.1%20extra%20cameras.rar?dl=0)

Enjoy!

Good work Tim, always up for enhancements. I think we last used this version of Monaco over a year ago so if aware of any updates/patches feel free to shout up here or via pm.
I was gagging to do some laps yesterday but i now have a house full of Italians and an unwell dad in hospital so my chances of practise are next to zero for a while, but will keep monitoring on here.
Good to see our resident test drivers vva and Fabri are putting the laps in already  :)

The AI don't seem to even be for this track version - so I've learnt how to fix that too.
Their lines aren't ideal as I had to keep them from getting too close to the walls (in the first version I made they would frequently drive into and bounce off walls at several locations, this was still better than the stock AI mind).
They still have a habit of driving into walls while racing each other now, but at least the majority of them can actually finish a lap now and will run fast and clean when isolated - in short tests most of them can actually finish races :o

The file goes into the AI folder inside the track folder - grab it here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xb3ghalsdhfajrs/Monaco%20OSRW%20AI.rar?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/xb3ghalsdhfajrs/Monaco%20OSRW%20AI.rar?dl=0)

For those who don't have it I recommend taking the Formula Easter cars for a spin here, the 75's are fun but really quite hard to get right. The FE's are just plain fun - and you'll learn all of the same lines you will need in the F1's :)

Belated happy new year guys, have a great 2020.

Finally got some laps in today, felt great to get back behind the wheel but a bit of a Shock to the system  to blat a 70’s F1 car around Monaco  :surrender:
Can’t believe stracker only recorded 4 timed laps despite an hour on track  :o stupid cut warnings  :P can see I’m off the pace too  :(
Is there a trick way of improving steering lock for this track? I’m nearly dislocating my wrist in the hairpin! Older sims let you tweak steering lock in settings for tight tracks like this. A track like this is a real tester for setup options  :-\ I can’t seem to dial out the understeer yet.

Have to say the track looks amazing in the rift, total immersion  8) Got my new one today but not installed it yet as realised I haven’t got a spare DisplayPort with triple monitors wired in  ::)

Intending to race for the remainder of this series. Got my PC up and running (with some stupid bugs, like problems with sound and wheel.. pfff) Anyway, my DIY playseat is working nicely so i am happy to try it at Monaco. That will be the real test.

glad to hear you are back in the fray Stefan and it beefs the grid up a tad more  :)

Bit surprised at the lack of practise laps recorded so far with a two week lead in, but guess we were all busy over christmas. I'm sure you will all pump in 50 laps each before wednesday  ;)

ps...omg on the new Rift S here  :o  Just the upgrade i was hoping for on the visuals :punk:

Take it from me Bob, it was worth doing. Get one in the sales while they have £50 knocked off, which is what i did!  I'll caveat it with saying i was quite impressed how good the Rift cv1 was here at Monaco (no idea why some tracks look much better than others in VR  :-\ ) but the Rift S was another level in improvement (i would say monitor quality) so maybe wait until i've tested it in a variety of cars/tracks.
I also started using it in Dirt Rally2 and my stage times instantly improved over using my triples.  :)  Its also far comfier to wear for longer periods and has more room if you wear glasses for the pc. Can imagine its great for flight sims as well as you can actually pick out finer details now with the improved resolution.
If anyone is looking to get VR at a bargain price, i'll flog my Cv1 for £100, works perfectly, still got the original box etc.

Should be around for this one. I know the track and the car but won't have time to practice before race night so probably defer quali and keep out of the first lap action.

Gonna have to agree,  I also picked one up in the sales to test some things and its much improved over the original CV1 rift. Much clearer picture and a lot of the lens flare / god rays are gone 8), and bonus no more annoying tracking sensors.  For the money its great.

Visually still not quite as good as a vive-pro with lens mod though...

Back on topic,  sorry to be lame but I'm gonna miss this race too.  On the upside, I've so almost finished my motion system (just tested it and its ALIVE!  :jumpjoy:) so now I just need to attach it to my frame and tidy up a few bits then I'm definitely back to racing very soon  ;D

for those struggling on setup here, a few pointers...

Short gears, i dont even use 5th, just set your 1st to 4th to suit the short spurts between corners. Bit trial and error, i ping my limiter in a couple of areas but just not worth the up-shift if you have to manual shift like i do.

Front wing - high to max
Rear Wing - high to max

Power diff - higher for better traction
Coast diff - higher ( i think - but the more you add the less resistant it will be to turning so not too much)

Front camber - bit more neg than normal (but dont go mad)
Rear camber - you want the rear tyres planted so default is probably enough

Toe - front toe out  - increases turn in and puts heat into the front tyres
rear toe in for stability, or rear toe out for tighter cornering. - bit of a balancing act - try adjusting one notch at a time.

Front ARB - Stiff
Rear ARB - Firm

Springs - softer to medium ( think i'm 2 clicks up from bottom)

Dampers - i've increased rebound on front and rear

Brake bias - slightly rear to help with corner rotation
Also, lower your brake pressure to avoid lock ups when you stamp on the stop peddle!

Hope that helps, happy to hear contradictions.

Post by: FullMetalGasket on January 07, 2020, 08:36:31 PM +0000
To clarify on the diff settings.
Increasing power or coast will make the wheels rotate less in relation to each other - increasing coast will actually increase understeer into turns up to a point.

If you've made the car rotate more under deceleration conditions it's more likely to be a combination of softer springs plus a stiffer rear ARB allowing the inner wheel to be lifted as the car rolls on the springs.

Alternatively you're running too much coast. This will move to car towards a solid diff in behaviour, and cause it to rotate more easily in tight and heaviy loaded turns as the diff forces the rear to loose traction when it locks solid entering a turn - this will be especially noticeable if you have low pre-load as the difference in locking between neutral input (not accelerating or coasting) and a loaded input becomes excessive - causing almost instant locking of the axle. This can work in your favour but restricts you in how to attack a corner, as you've got pretty much only one way of braking and turning now.

Either that or there's a serious bug in the car physics  ;D

FWIW I'm running pretty much the same mid/low coast/power settings as at previous rounds - I think I've actually opened it up a bit and then played with the pre-load and brake bias to make it behave as I want.

That was a cruel end after a long hard race  :( 2 mins from the end I got a disco  :'( gutted after the day I’ve had.

Good turn out, qually was great, enjoyed the race as a tough challenge. Had 3rd place secured until that bitter end. Enjoyed chasing Fabri back down for Potential 2nd. Back markers were good, sorry to the orange march/McLaren? I thumped late in the race, assumed I was following you round the hairpin but you braked to let me past. Misunderstood sorry.

Congrats to Tim and Fabri

No problem Mark. Disaster of a race for me, my wheel refused to respond until I tried restarting my pc. By that time the race had long started, but I thought I might as well try to join in and at least score a point or two for finishing.  Could not find a rhythm here at all, and limped over the line in a car on three wheels, 11 laps down  :-\

I quite enjoyed this race actually. Monaco is a always a bit love/hate, but the car was nice here. Had a few moments when my new seat started to move around, but managed to keep it out of the walls.
Too bad about the disco for MJ after keeping it on track for 44 minutes.  :P  I have no problems if Mark gets listed as finishing 3rd here.

Looking forward to the remainder of this series!

Good idea ! Fully agreed here. That disco at the very end of the race is so ridiculous.  :-\

Sorry to hear Mark. Whish you the best.

Race report :
Maybe it's same for other Ford engine users, I can't hear my engine at start. My take off was good enough, but then I didn't get that I was max rev in 1st gear so that I lost a bit of time.
Then I did my only one contact (not so serious) and 2 cars passed me before the pool. After that Kimi was putting big pressure for a while, keeping it very clean.  :thumbup1: Missed my breaking point at harbour, short-circuited the chicane or it was a clear spin, so I lost some time in order not to gain an advantage over him (who had followed me doing a fault too, even if less serious than me). Later he unfortunately lost control in Sainte Devote exit. After that it was a lonely race untill I had to let the fast guys lapping me (I hope it was clean enough guys).

Do 45 mins at Montecarlo is quite tiring, also physically.

I opted for the Softs, hoping to be able to annoy Fmg in the first laps, try to overtake him, and then "tap" him for the whole race. Unfortunately I qualified only third and therefore I was unable to try this tactic. In addition, Fmg with the Hards was perhaps faster than me with Softs.  ;D
I started well and I put pressure on Mark, I took advantage of his small mistake at the port chicane and I passed him. From mid race onwards he started earning a little bit every lap, but I managed to keep him at a safe distance until the end (up to 2 laps from the end).

A real shame for the Mark disco. Also for me it's okay to give him the 3rd place, definitely deserved.

Fmg is dominating the championship: 5 races, 5 wins, 5 pole positions, always in the lead. Another level. Impressive!
Maybe with the Williams I could have some (few) chances to try win some race, but with Ferrari is hard. In ever case is an honor to drive this car, and it is an occasion to remember the legendary Niki Lauda. So I don't regret my team choice.
I hope that in the future some drivers will join, like Jukka, to be able to fight with Fmg and make him a little of fun.

Mark, best wishes to you and your dad.

I really enjoyed Monaco, such a high risk/reward track!
I took it fairly steady in the opening laps as I'd chosen to run my 'safe' setup - this is pretty heavily understeery until everything is fully upto temperature and pressure, which takes roughly 5 laps based on my practising.
The other choice was the fast setup, but it was VERY loose in order to make the speed and I didn't trust myself over the full race. Especially as I know it is actually the slower of the 2 options in the latter stages of the 45 minutes.

This was probably a good choice as I managed to spin in the narrow section entering the start straight somewhere around halfway. I managed to spin the car back around and rejoined only 2 or 3 seconds ahead of Fabri :o
I made a point of not pushing after that and seemed to only slowly pull away from him whenever he had a slower lap. Until the end at least when I guess the tires were starting to hurt a bit.

Backmarkers did a good job as usual, I was very pleased when I saw them as I was getting lonely. On the more open circuits later in the season I'm tempted to start from the back one or 2 times (Unless Max or Jukka join us of course!) just so I can have some decent fights ;D
Or at the very least I guess I can qualify on the race setup to drop back a bit.

Well done to the podium (I'll count Mark among them as a final lap disco is just cruel) and to the finishers for making it around here.

Thanks for well wishes guys. Don’t know how I kept focus last night tbh.

Must admit whilst yet again in admiration of Fmg’s pace I did wish I or someone could keep up with him! I was actually on for a mid 32 lap time at end of qually but overcooked the chicane at the tunnel exit  :'(
And would/should have stayed on his tail for more laps than I did at race start as I got a frustrating loss of front grip at the same chicane on lap 3 or 4 that cost me 8 seconds to reverse from the Armco and allowed Fabri to romp past for my hard earned 2nd spot :(
