Title: UKGPL Season 36 (2020) - Daytona - Dec 29

Season 36 Sport Cars Extra Fun Race – Daytona Road Circuit

Just in case anyone has GPL withdrawal symptoms over the holiday period, we will run a Sports Cars Extra fun race at the Daytona Continental 24 Hours circuit in Florida USA. The venue is famous for the oval used for the prestigious Daytona 500 NASCAR race and is one of the circuits to feature in the film "Le Mans 66 (https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiy4Ivwtc7mAhXLX8AKHVoGAsgQFjAAegQIAxAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fox.co.uk%2Fle-mans-66&usg=AOvVaw2CNf2amAIj_Q4sq4z4U_lC)" which is out on general release at the moment.

To add some interest and authenticity the race will include fuel stops. The refuelling (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=10007) patch is already built-in to the Sports Cars Extra mod so there is no need to download it; but the link does have some useful instructions on how to use the patch. The minimum number of refuelling stops a driver must take will depend on the chosen chassis. There is no maximum number of refuelling stops a driver needs to take. Drivers will need to devise their own refuelling strategy.

The minimum time a car is stationary in the pit stall is 5 seconds, so given that the refuelling rate is approximately 1.5 gallons per second, it isn't advisable to refuel with less than 8 gallons. Other than that, drivers are free to choose whatever refuelling strategy they like.

Intermediate damage rules will apply. Given that a reset will effectively refuel the car, it doesn't make sense to impose a S&G for each reset. Instead, for each Shift-R taken, a time penalty of 1 minute will be added to the finishing time.

I've set a practice server up on IGOR. For some reason the IGOR race list is not updating on my Windows 10 PC (my race PC) but it is OK on my server (currently running Windows 7). I suspect this is down to me so I need people to check their connections.

Please check IGOR and post here to let me know if you can connect.

If you can't connect via IGOR, try connecting via the GPL Multiplayer window using the IP in the race announcement. Post here to let me know if this works for you or not.

I've reinstalled SCx mod but it won't run with V2 rasterisers so I must have something wrong.  I'll have a look. Good job I tried to test the server!

The gears problem again.Forced to use the Chap 2F because only 3 gears work but impossible to brake with the car at the end of the ring.
Any time i have lost the car. I don't know if was some setup on my wheel or other but during the braking a strong oscillation in the steering wheel.
last thing, since i have never used this car,i was without mirror(big handicup)

Interesting long race !
Should be nice to do the same kind of long race on Le Mans and Sebring tracks !

About my race, I choose Ferrari P4 quick and easy to drive. Unfortunately I had a very big accident with Francesco's Chap 2F out of control on first lap.
Curiously, I could continue without shift-R but it makes 20 laps before I understood I was running 1'53/1'54 per lap instead of 1'50/1'51... I should buy me a new brain !
So I did a shift-R and it was better.
Refuelling (3 times) were OK and finally I finished just 3/10 sec after Lance De Boyle ...a gap of 3/10 after 48 laps !

Yes, these SCX are a challenge to keep under control in the 1st infield corner :o

Shame Ziu was lost, but he seems to have pc problems :'(

I had miscalculated my fuel consumption so had to refuel a fourth time in the 2nd to last lap ::)

Thanks for a great evening's fun go to Phil and all who took part.  ;D ;D Also grats to Axel on a commanding win.

I felt really sorry that Ziu did not take part, he was obviously very quick in that Chapp 2D and was looking favourite to cross the line first after 90 mins.
I was able to stay with Axel for the first few laps by keeping myself just in the slipstream around the banking and then closing up a little through the infield section. Then I got a little greedy and almost ended my race after only 5 laps!! I tried to brake just a few mtrs later into T1 and made a complete Horlicks of the corner. I hit one of the concrete cones, spun the car around and went through the advertising hoarding to end up facing the wrong way and in the wrong gear  :-\
I got going again and had discovered that I had only lost a single place to Andreas, but Axel was gone and was a distant memory. Over the next few laps I discovered that the contact with the cone at T1 had damaged something important and heavy braking into any corner became very exciting with a car that wanted to snap left or right, or both!!! I think I counted about 6 or 7 excursions into the barriers throughout the race.  :-\

I was surprised that I managed to hold onto 2nd spot with the car problems that I had, but somehow I did. I was also very happy with my pitstop strategy which allowed me 2 stops on a slightly stretched schedule and a final stop that I could choose anywhere in a 5 lap window...just in case I was in a tight battle at the end.

FWIW   I think the Mk1 GT40 needs to be reclassified for some tracks like Daytona, because I found that it was at least 2 secs a lap faster than the Porsche which had to take one pitstop. On a more twisty track ( Brands Hatch ) I suspect that the Porker would be on top. But this was just a FUN race and it certainly was!

Wow! very impressive! 9 drivers covered 48 laps or more. I wouldn't have expected that many drivers would have driven that far.

It's a shame I missed it.
