Post by: Simon Gymer on July 03, 2006, 08:35:53 PM +0100
Endurance Championship - Season 3, Round 6 at Jerez

If you haven't already done so, you must download this addon track (http://www.venturesimulations.com/UKGTR/UKGTR_Jerez_Track_1.1.zip). If you already have Jerez, but did not install it from the UKGTR v1.1 package please delete your version and install this one so that we are all definately running the same track.

IMPORTANT NOTE
So that everyone knows I believe from our testing in June there is a bug in this circuit...

At the start, the start lights will stay on red and not change to green. The clock will however start counting down at the right moment. You will have to look at the clock countdown to check that we can start the parade lap. Don't go too early otherwise you will get a stop and go!!!

Date: Sunday 30th July

Practice 1: 8:00pm (20 mins)
Practice 2: 8:20pm (10 mins)
Qual 2: 8:30pm (30 mins)
Warmup: 9:00pm (2 mins)
Race: 9:02pm (80 mins)

Weather: Will be decided just before the race based on real-world weather.
Pit Stops: All drivers must make a minimum of one pit stop. This must involve entering the pit lane at the speed limit, and coming to a complete standstill in the designated pit box. Tyres do not have to be changed and no fuel has to be added. You cannot take your mandatory stop at the end of the pace lap, or with less than 1 lap to go.

Server: UKGTR Endurance S3
Password: Server Password is shown in the Password Board (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=20.0) and is available to the relevant registered drivers.

Notes:
(1) Full-time drivers should aim to arrive during Practice 1.
(2) Reserve drivers should not connect to the server until Practice 2.
(3) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(4) See  UKGTR Season 3 Info (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?ind=lm2&group=27) for general Endurance Season 3 info.

(6) The season will be run using a UKGTR carpack v1.5 (http://www.ukgtr.org/downloads/SROU_Car_Pack_1.5.zip) which will need to be installed prior to racing. Details of this pack can be found here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1235.msg17247#msg17247).

Wow, this is a hard track, very narrow and bumpy in places with some nasty cambered corners to catch the unwary.

I managed a 1:50.4 last night but I have a feeling I'm going to have to take a couple more seconds off that to be competitive :-\

I need help i guess.

I managed a 1:50.4 last night but I have a feeling I'm going to have to take a couple more seconds off that to be competitive :-\

After being unable to practice at all for the past 2 days after taking a chunk out of my thumb making it impossible to grip the steering wheel I've finally managed to do some practice laps here. Healed quite a bit more overnight so thought it was ok to drive with it now and seems ok as long as I grip the wheel a bit funny.

Quite a technical circuit, no straights to speak of other than the pit straight, had to really pull down the gear ratios as it wasn't getting anywhere near 6th gear let alone top revs in 6th gear. Some quite interesting corners, gonna be quite difficult letting lapping GTs through I think.

There's some nasty little 2nd gear corners with dips in them that can easily catch you out if you're not paying attention.

I'd forgotten how long it takes to really learn a completely new circuit. Never run at Jerez before so was just learning the track for the 10 laps I've done. Was doing 1:55s for a few laps. Put on full wing and lowered the gears and was down to 1:52 then after warming the tyres down to 1:49.3. I think I need to spend a lot more time at the circuit as even getting down to 1:49 I don't feel like I know where all the corners are yet or quite what speed I can take them. Probably another 2 seconds somewhere in there I reckon if I knew the circuit as well as I know the other circuits. Still we're all in the same boat.

Perhaps people would like to get together this afternoon for some online practice?

Gonna try my best to be there but not sure my power issues are sorted. Been very dodgy last few days

Shame to miss what would be my last race this season but will see.

New PSU arrives tomorrow so hopefully that will be it then.

I know I'm not in Endurance but I installed Jerez and did a few laps last night as I had never turned a wheel here, and can't even remember it from F1 even though it was used in 1997.  :o

I managed a 1:44.2 in 12 laps according to my career.blt, so Im sure those who have practised will be able to get into the 1:42/1:41's maybe.
I thought it was a nice flowing circuit in most parts but bumpy too in some.

I'm sure if you wanted Leuv, you could race tonight - sure would be good to have a few more GT cars. I was only doing 44's last time out and won't be pushing too hard for race, will be in cruising mode. Going to grab some dinner then be on about 6.30pm for some practice.

F******g great, PSU packs up on me with 2 minutes of qual left, could have least let me get a lap in to get some points.

What a really frustrating way to end the season, away for the next two on holiday, shame so few there again.

Roll on new PSU tomorrow and GTR2 soon.

Yeah, nice!  >:(

NGT pole, 1 fps bug in formation lap, all screwed up start. Thanks to the guys who let me by before start.

Had a few offs, was catching Shark and Pops, then a pop-up, still don't know what it was. While I was saying NO BLOODY SHIT, the car allready hit the wall. End of story.  >:(

Bloody hardware/software. I'm loosing the will to go on trying. Must've made a 100 laps in training for this race. All for nothing.  :cursing:

Quali was great for me. Then the race started ok but I thought med/med would've been good for 20 odd laps but I think I pushed to hard and kept spinning which was heating my tyres even more and then spinning again. Made an early pitstop and put hard rears on and just kept it steady after that. It was all going so well till my engine blew up :( Wasn't overheating or owt. I guess I need to learn the C5R a bit more. On the track Pedro was invisible to me which was a bit strange. Thank god for the car markers ;D Grats to anyone that finishes ;) That's damn unlucky TT.....Don't give up the fight though, them sharks need a taming ;D

Well done to Dan and Rich for the wins.

Great move from Dan going round the outside of one of the most tricky 3rd/4th gear right handers to overtake me for the lead and whoosh off into the distance. Great racing.

Then had 2 good battles with Pops. One just before the pits and then one towards the end of the race. Both times I had made mistakes to let Pops past me, both times I just caught him with pushing quite hard. The battle at the end was tremendous. Hats off to you Popa, you hung it all together and had enough to keep me behind. I nearly had you in T2 when I was much faster through the corner. I dumped it down a gear to try and get as little wheelspin as possible, but on the slippy stuff on the inside, all the torque of the Mosler I just had to watch as my arse showed my just how fat it was. Had to be tried as I had the run, but didn't pay off.

That dodgy 2nd gear right hander with the bump/dip near the end was a nightmare every lap. I spun at least twice there and it was everything just to make it through at any speed let alone fast.

Very enjoyable race was 10x more fun than those boring TC-65s.  :P

Sorry for Nick and his dodgy PSU and TT who again hit strange issues on the formation lap (how did you keep going, 1 fps i've never recovered from before?)

So unlucky TT. I thought you had disco'ed on the formation lap, your car just froze. You were by far and away the quickest NGT :(

Great race Shark, that was amazingly tense stuff. I was really pleased I was reasonably fast and mistake-free under so much pressure.

I think you had me though if you'd managed to keep the car under control, bad luck :-\

Hats off to Dan though, amazing pace and a brilliant win :)

Well done to all who finished, that's a very tough track.

Might be windows messenger - it can be disabled in services. Or could be some automatic live update, maybe OS or anti virus.

Good race, was following JM for about 5 laps until he spun - I knew the Vette struggles in race trim so only matter of time before a spin or I overtake.  :)

Thanks mate.

Great race for me,   Been playing GTr for over a year now and thats the best ive ever had the car set-up, was just so easy to drive.  Good qualify battle between myself ,shark, Pops and TT, ended up 4th in class after some awseome late laps .
Decided to just change tyres as the car felt good on a full tank in warm.   First 6 or 7 laps were awsome dicing with Pops first then Shark, After that just tried to put in consistant laps and was suprised at the rate in which i left Shark.

Well chuffed with the maiden win,  bad luck TT  and grats to Rich just a shame there wasnt a few more GT's out there .

Cheers

Grats to Rich and Don, also to all the finishers here, bitch of a track!

Too bad Jon, you were looking set to win after the quali.

Don, I think you had the best race setup. How come you didn't have a pole in NGT quali? My best times with race setup were low 1.47, but with less than 70 fuel. Good pace.

Damn my luck, I was feeling ready to battle for the top. >:(

If it was a pop up then it sent you to desktop right? What happened exactly?

Watched replay, forgot about JM's engine failure. Was only about 100 meters behind approaching the hairpin near big dunlop tyre bridge and then was engulfed by black smoke. :) It was about three quarters into race so probably too high rev limit by one notch.

I've just noticed we've had 5 different NGT winners out of the 6 races! Obviously non-attaendance and technical problems have played their part in that but it's still amazing!  :thumbup1:

Looks like Shark has a slight advantage in the individual standings and we've pulled out a couple more points in the team standings :)

Hi All I enjoyed that Whitham69 but screwed the rears with to much rear brake . Took the middle section of race to get that ok. then was to late to make much of an inroad. Span at every opporti=unity in the bad corner, was very bad when being lapped as its difficult ther at best of times. was glad I kept going as need to pick up a few points.Sorry for those that retired but I think some of you were still in qualy mode. I you had to pay for repairs to your car I think iy would calm things down a bit. cheers gerald

Yeah that goes for me Gerald. I was still in quali mode for sure. Jerez seemed to punish that more than other tracks, it certainly seems like a track to drive well within the limits, maybe 0.5-1.0 secs a lap which is hard to do. Even though the track was a bitch I'm looking forward to the next time it's raced more than any other track

How do people feel about moving Sukuza back a week to give more time to practice it as it's a new circuit?

I'm on Holidays from August 15th. In case Suzuka is postponed a week I'll be missing the last race of the season and only be racing in Brno.

It was a shame I could not race last Sunday at Jerez. I loved the track and my best time with 50 L and medium tyres was 1.49.6xx after some 10 laps. I hadn't the time to practice a bit more and improve the setup, but I guess I would be able to fight for top 3 during the race.

I was enjoying the fight for 1st place in drivers’ championship very much, but now with only 2 (maybe 1) races to go I think I'm out of the picture.
I was hoping to also push Sonic up in the team championship, but that is getting very distant after Jerez and with an eminent miss in the last race of the season.

Nonetheless I enjoyed the season very much with very good races and I'm sure I'll be back for GTR 2 Season 1. ;)

We are also discussing runing a fairwell to GTR race in September before it's replaced with GTR2 where we hope many will like to say goodbye to the arguably the best racing game since GPL. An extravaganza of the ultimate racing challenge, with a big grid run at one of the most famous GT racing circuits in the world.

I hope many of you will attend and make the event the largest GTR gathering we've had in a long time.

Details to be published, subject to terms and conditions, standard 102.4 %APR and 0% on balance transfers.

Regarding Suzuka, same here as Luis B, please dont postpone it a week if possible or i will have to miss it  :(. Would really hate to miss the season finale at such a great track and with the competition so close. :'(

I might also struggle to attend Suzuka if it's put back a week, I'm running a half-marathon that day and I'm not sure I'll be around :-\

Didn't really want to move it 2 weeks, but what's people's availability like the week after?

(27th August)

I definately won't be there if it's 27 August.

I've planned around the schedule that we've had since the start of the season - can't we just run it as originally intended? :-\

Yes, it has not been moved YET. My original suggestion was to try and give people more time to help make it an even better race at Sukuka, but it's obvious we can't fit it to meet everyone's schedule so it may well stay where it is as originally planned.

I only return on 31 August, so any races between 15 and 31 I'll be out somewhere cooling my feet and enjoying some gorgeous babes putting solar lotion in my chest ;D
