If you thought Zolder was bumpy, wait till you try this track.  ;D

Yeah, awkward track this with a nice long straight and some long radius corners good for overheating your tires.  ;D

i havent raced at Anderstorp since our fully packed grids of early GTL & GTR2 days  :o  I remember countless good races there and the slightly banked last section. I also remember the long straight with a good passing opportunity at the end of it!

Re, bumps, its worth exploring the track to avoid them. I found by taking different lines at Zolder i could avoid some of the nastier ones and not lose any time.

I quite dislike this layout, and this version looks a bit like MineCraft racing to me.  ::)

I should do figuration though.  :-\

Wow, Brambilla in the March led the race in the early stages here; I've got work to do, then. Not an easy circuit to get the hang of, though, i'm finding

know what you mean Les, its a tricky track to get any flow with unlike Zolder. Also, The bumps are less severe in size but more intense in vibration, must be the cold climate effect on the tarmac  ;) I actually had to turn down my ffb as my wheel was taking a pounding. Although nostalgic for the track I preferred racing GT cars here, it feels point and squirt between tight corners a bit for the middle and last sectors in a hairy f1 car.

Guys, any tips about suspension setup and heights here? My Ferrari jumps.

Got enough ride height/clearance Fabri? I’m running fairly soft front springs with a bit more ARB to stiffen the front but still absorb the bumps. Not had any jumping, just vibration in the curved banked corners (which I think is deliberate to replicate the rough surface concrete used)

These enormous bumps and two broken wrists don't endear me to this track.  :wheelchair:

These enormous bumps and two broken wrists don't endear me to this track.  :wheelchair:

Decrease bump stiffness, raise the suspension, soften springs. The tire pressures can also be reduced slightly for a better ride at the expense of handling.

Alas we dont have fast bump & rebound dampers on these old F1 cars (oddly!) as they would help with an oscillating surface. Try experimenting with lowering or increasing the dampers, they may be all encompassing and solve or help over the ripples.

But if easy to do for your setup, i would decrease your wheel FFB by 5-10, i did and will just put it back up after this event.

ps Bob, after a couple of weeks of using the Rift-S i would say its a big step up from the cv1. Graphically its much much better and more importantly, its taken away the constant eye strain i suffered and is a lot more comfortable to wear on your head for long periods. It also fits over glasses much better.

Setup is soft and high to deal with the bumps - although some you're better off just avoiding.
It's a shame the track's been converted without anyone bothering to fix the road mesh as graphically it's not actually that bad - some of my camera sets look really good here. (just watch the footage of Ronnie drifting all of the banked curves - the track should be normal race-track smooth - even the Yellow Bird that I was playing with yesterday was really struggling to drift the bumpier banked stuff)

As for the race, I might not actually make it as I have a funeral to go to tomorrow - depending on how alcoholic the wake becomes I might not be suitable to join in...

I have a rough race setup ready, and if I don't get time to improve it then you lot may be able to get some revenge..

i agree graphically it looks good, especially in the Rift, i can almost touch the grass blades on the apexs's of some of the turns!  I think our friendly Siberian Alex was good at editing these tracks to fix track mesh's, maybe you can add it to your tweaking skills Tim  ;) Out of interest do you use the yellowbird as a training tool for these f1 cars? Can see the relation with its handling skills required. Sorry to hear you have a funeral to attend.  :(

I did a few more laps last night and slightly improved but have to admit this track has been my least favourite to practise on so far this season. It will be a tough 45mins race as i havent found any rhythm here, just clatter from one corner to the next!  :P

No, I literally haven't driven it in ages despite really liking it. I just wanted an excuse to go drifting on all these nice long hairpins ;D
On twisty technical stuff (Like Monaco) the Formula Easter cars are very good practice as they use the same lines as the 75's but are slow enough to let you actually think about what you're doing.. They could conceivably be useful here to learn where the bumps are, but are too slow for much else.

This track is all about technique - which it shouldn't be. All those long banked corners should be perfect for fighting on, but sadly there are some where running even halfway into the track will slow you so much that any passing attempt will be ruined.

Have a race with the AI though while you practice - they're really good here, I had a 6 lapper last night starting from the back.
The BT44 cleared the entire field by 14 seconds by the end of the race, I only managed 3rd in contrast. Normally the AI don't stand a chance!

I tried that too, starting with a run at Zolder for comparison. I even recorded a new ai line, because I didn't think much of the existing one. And anyway, I was able to keep up at least with the ai set as high as possible. But doing the same at Anderstorp they just vanished into the distance...

I am going to award myself this for my race-start debacle  :wetfish:  i have been playing a lot of Dirt Rally2 recently (as its winter!) and had a complete brain-fart when the lights got to 5 red circles, my rally brain kicked in and i dropped the clutch to get an instant stop-go penalty  but also it meant that when the lights went out i sat there a second or so dumb-founded and nearly got rear ended by the pack behind  :o :(  Thankfully you all had the wits to blast around me.

That was a waste of a decent qually effort to bag 2nd on the grid  ::)

Had a decent dice early laps but my head was still in a mix over the start so didnt push that hard as knew i only had 2 laps to make a stop&Go which i duely took and rejoined bottom of the field by the full runway straight  :'(
I didnt have any magic pace here so it took a long time to catch and pass the field upto about 6th where i caught Jari and vva. They were having a great battle and though i got past Jari i then fell off at T2 whilst chasing vva hard. So Jari got back past and it took me another long time to re-close and pass him. Then i had a great chase with vva for a few laps and that was fantastic with the 3 of us chasing and hussling through the banked corners, really noisy grand-prix action!  :fencing: The cars look and sound amazing in combat, something i've not had a whole lot of in the season so far as generally been a distant a 2nd or 3rd.
I finally got past vva with a 'last of the late brakers' move down the inside at T2. The move turned into a bit of a Verstappen block pass (ala Austria on LeClerc!)  as my front tyres got a slight lock up at the end that put my nose across the apex and prevented vva cutting back under me. It wasnt intentional and i apologise if it looked intentional, it was just me hanging on for dear life!  :P  He kind of gave up the fight after that which was a shame as i thought id have a battle royale to the flag. But good action with both guys   :ninja:

4th was damage limitation and glad i managed it. Well done to Tim, Max and Fabri on the podium, nice to see another car up front for qually and race  :thumbup1:

This looked like an action packed race again.
Unfortunately I could not get on the pace I found in the practice session and found myself more to the back as I wanted to. I noticed the guys in front had the rougly the same pace as I had during practice, so it should give some good racing.

And it did. Made a proper start and started to gain a few places, up to 4th after MJ went for his ride through. I was feeling confident that i could get on the pace from the cars in front of me and started pushing a bit more. Big mistake as I put a rear wheel on the grass and spun it. Took a while to get back in the mix as the general pace from all was pretty good. Had some nice battles along the race only to finish 7th I believe.
Great to see Maxim showing impressive pace and taking the win.

Next up, the dunes of Zandvoort. These cars should be really good around there. Bring it on.

And the replay of the first few laps.

Great to see Maxim showing impressive pace and taking the win.

But I didn't take it.  ;D

Still it was unexpected for me to get such a successful result (pole + lead for about 2/3 of the race).

Quali was strange here : It was my first few laps in soft tyres (didn't take the time to test them before as I don't count too much on the grid position usually). My best lap was my 1st flying lap. I knew that soft tyres would be very hot very quickly due to banking curves. 2nd try was a fail, 3rd lap was to cool them down, 4th and 5th were other attempts with no success and I then understood that they just had too much wear yet. So that I went back to pits to discuss Tim's alcoolism with my team.  :D

Then we got champagne cups to celebrate this pole position.  :P

I saw nothing from the Mark false start but was quite happy not to be under pressure in the aerodrome straightline. First 1/3 of the race was quite peaceful here, as I was pretty sure tyres wear would be a problem in the end of the race, and above all because my heart was almost over-reving yet.

Then I saw what was a weird blue car in my mirrors. I thought "Damn, Kimi is flying above everyone !!" until I finally saw the name "Tim Muttram" and remembered he had spoken about a blue livery just before the start.. Oh ok, end of the laugh time then. I didn't want to really fight against him, he was coming like a bullet, and I had a nice result to hope in the race.
After about 2 laps after the join up, he passed me at turn 2 but was a bit too much overdriving on the grass at the turn exit, and the little fault became a spin. I had then a bit more time to accept the reality.

Later when he was back in my gearbox, we had another little battle but again, I had no decent hope to keep him behind.

By the way, Tim, could you please give us your postal address so that we can send a whiskey bottle to you on a weekly basis ?

I won't be able to get such a result for a long time now, so it's full enjoy time here. (I hate Silverstone, even don't know the track, don't know my national track Charade neither, then it's Green Hell, and I quite dislike all other tracks too..  :-\)

On a side note, happy to see a compatriot driver coming, welcome Christian !

Mh.. Without me then. I bought one of their mod cars but was forced to ask for a refund (that he kindly did immediately) as its ffb was so wrong at my end. It was a car though, maybe the tracks are well worth the penny, yet I won't buy it for several reasons.

Edit : Watching the vid, I have to admit that the track look stunning.

Last night was interesting.
I'd been at the wake in the pub from around 2pm until roughly 5:30 - and as no one was home broke out the whisky to top up the beer I'd already had...
I decided that I'd do qualifying using my race setup as I'd need the practice (speed comes with consistency and lines - it's only full blown qualifying efforts that really need reflexes, and I didn't have those at the time!). This didn't go as well as it could have - my FL on the server from before the race was also the race setup and a lowish 1:28 - so the alcohol was obviously having an effect, I was a good second down on the times I should be doing and kept finding myself in the infield wondering how I got there :D

My biggest concern was going to be fighting my way back up the order from 5th after loosing my battle with VVA for 4th, I have little experience of racing actual people wheel to wheel and was concerned that by the time you added my inebriation I might be a bit of a risk.
Luckily I was able to keep it clean and didn't really suffer until I put a wheel wrong after taking the lead and was unable to react properly in time :-[
The 2nd fight with Fabri followed by charging to re-close the 8 second lead Maxime had regained seemed to help sober me up a bit, it also helped that I'd learned not to trust the car as much as I normally would - so I didn't make the same mistake a second time.

Once back in the lead after a few laps of trying to find a clean way through I just concentrated on my rhythm and held on.
It was good to see a new face charging away at the front, Silverstone67 makes Anderstorp look complex - so I think you'll do alright ;) The Stewart certainly isn't handicapped there as I managed to take it to victory in the first(?) fun race using the mod there.

Well done to Fabri for finishing off the podium, pity Mark messed up as that could have made for an interesting race for the podium.

I 'think' that is the last of the dodgy conversions now? Hopefully it will be good quality tracks from here to the finish

It was pretty hard race for me. 1st half i tried to be fast but then somehow tyres became worn a lot more than i expected. This is why i couldnt resist to Mark (T2 accident was just racing, i went too wide and should have chosen proper position before entry). By the end of race i was slower than any other guys ahead and even behind. Still, was very good fight with Jari and Mark! Thanks for skilled racing guys!
Sorry if i hit someone (was some collision 1st or 2nd lap just before those idiotic bumps). For me 5th place is close to maximum at this track.

Rumors say that Fmg was found positive for alcohol test. But being in the 70s it's all normal.

It was quite difficult to race because I was very tired, having woken up at 4.30 am and having done 600 km in one pull in the morning. I am very happy in any case because my usual disconnection occurred before the race.  8)

The race was very intense, with different moments wheel to wheel. Fmg with his new skin was a devil.

I have always had a mediocre pace, but this is not new this season.

Congratulations to everyone, especially Maxime for the excellent pace and result.

D'oh, I forgot it would be the '67 layout (which I don't know neither by the way), I hope I'll like it more. Probably was confused due to Alfa 33 race coming this saturday.
Then I guess you mean Surtees and not Stewart.

By the way where are we racing next Wednesday exactly ?
