Title: UKGTL Ladder - GTC-TC-76 @ Dijon Prenois GP - 20 July 2006
Post by: Simon Gymer on July 13, 2006, 10:18:02 PM +0100
All members welcome.

Date: Thursday 20th July

Practice: 20:30 (15 mins)
Qualifying: 20:45 (20 mins)
Race: 21:05 (26 laps = ~40 mins)

Cars allowed: Ford GT-40, BMW CSL Alpina, Ford Escort RS, Porsche 914-6, Ford Capri 2600 RS
NOTE TO ALL: We are unable to restrict the use of the fast Capri and the faster BMW, so we are relying on everyone to NOT pick those cars. Anyone picking those cars will be asked to leave and rejoin with a different car, otherwise they will be excluded from the result.
Time of day: 12:00 (midday)

Server: UKGTL Ladder; in the event that the lobby is unavailable, connect using Direct IP, entering games.avonrise.co.uk in the Add IP box
Password: See this post (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1665.0)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7). Note in particular that we will be using the new pit lane speed limiter starting procedure.
(3) General information on the ladder can be found on the series home page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?ind=lm2&group=25).
(4) The season will be run using a UKGTL carpack v1.0 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/downloads/UKGTL-skins-1.0.zip) which will need to be installed prior to racing.

As a long time snake on this particular ladder I find I have an unusual dilemma for this meeting.

I am absolutely shit in everyone of the cars I have tried

I have decided using the well known "pin the tail on the donkey" technique to give the Escort a dusting down.

I am a little bit less shit in this car than the others but still am getting a whiff of the sewage farm down the straight (and thro the corners)

Is there a kind soul who can advance me a reasonable set up for this car or at the worst point me in the general direction of something that will go faster than 1:35 at this smelly cheese eating track so I dont look like a complete pillock on Thursday.

And for those of you with a strong stomach you might want to look at this :

I'm decided I'll get a bit braver for this weeks race and go with the tail-happy Escort myself over the more stable 914. While I'm no setup expert, I found stiffening the front anti-roll bar, and front suspension helped with stability. I doubt I'm anywhere near the faster drivers, but have managed a 1:32.9 after a handful of laps like this, and hope to knock another 2 seconds off that before Thursday

You're not supposed to use somebody else's personal skin, at least not without their permission. Ditto using a team skin for a team of which you're not a member.

NOTE TO ALL:

We are unable to restrict the use of the fast Capri and the faster BMW, so we are relying on everyone to NOT pick those cars. Anyone picking those cars will be asked to leave and rejoin with a different car, otherwise they will be excluded from the result.

Would be great in future if Blimey could allow us to select individual car models to allow/disallow on the server in a future patch.

It's blue and white, like this one (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/pic.php?imagenum=1&carnum=1964).

The one you'll need tonight is brown and white, like this one (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/pic.php?imagenum=1&carnum=2214).

BMW wise...

This (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/pic.php?imagenum=2&carnum=1242) is the BMW you ARE allowed...

Sorry can't find a picture of the other BMW, but it's the red BMW you are NOT allowed.

LOL! - pretty tight at the front (from what i saw for the 1st few laps anyway) - who blew their engine on turn 1 - was it one of the Porsche's? good battle between baz & ian in front of me - just couldnt catch up after i spun out and hit the tyrewall - CSL was pulling to the right for the rest of the race.. ???

Good result for me, made a stupid mistake AGAIN and clipped Leh on the second lap going into turn one . Lost too much ground to Pero and Baracus in the incident but managed to get passed a couple of people and and claim 2nd after Pero's misfortune ,bad luck mate.

Grats to Baracus on the win

Another Escort engine blower here.
I kinda forgot that it will do that with normal damage as well. Really wanted to drive it so didnt even consider taking the BMW. I did however test both and acctually found that the Alpina was slightly faster - was very suprised when I got a 1:28.8 on my first lap with it and than got a 1:28.0 after a few laps. Still opted for the Escort as it feels much more alive and dosent give you that strangled feel to the engine.

Anyhow - did a decent time in qually and was able to keep in the very low 28's during qually. Was doing well in the race leading infront a fast Baracus. We werent much appart and after the first backmarkers I started to get away just a slight bit. However I than noticed that I didnt have the right responce on the upshift anymore and I knew I was in trouble. I looked back and sure enough there was slight smoke behind me. I than started nursing the engine, didnt rew it so high anymore and tried to shift really carefully. Soon Baracus passed me and it wasnt long till my engine siezed up completly(even had to switch to neutral to roll off the track).
Oh well - next time I will know better  :P

Well, now I know why nobody took the Capri 2600RS. Slow slow slow! Didn't handle too badly most of the time but the Escorts did rather gobble me up on that long main straight, and once the suspension was upset it was virtually unrecoverable. Wish I'd taken the GT40 instead - nobody else did.

Had quite a good dice with Phil K for a while until my tyres turned to molten lava. Sorry about the touch into T1, Phil, was very strange that, I pulled off to the side to try and tempt you into another mistake, braked at the usual place, then suddenly it was like you'd snagged an arrestor cable and I was suddenly alongside and then exchanging paint. ??? Very confusing!

Also whoever that was lapping near the end (Mooman?), I braked a bit early and very hard into T1 to let you by and suddenly the rears locked and I was virtually broadside across the track. :o Hopefully there wasn't any contact.

No harm done:) I was surprised to see you get along side since you seemed to brake earlier than me, but I managed to keep it together. It as a fun scrap while it lasted, but once I got a bit of breathing room to relax a bit the escort proved itself over the capri. I was pleasently surprised to get it to the finish without a spin.

Its okay you didn't hit me:) I was having some brake trouble of my own by that stage of the race and ran really wide at turn one a couple of laps before.

Strange, what was wrong with it Dave.

I'll be back 8). My DFp is broke so I'm waiting for a replacement. I haven't driven GTL for 2 weeks now so I'll be a backmarker by the time I'm back. So just flash your lights when you lap me.
