Title: UKGTL Ladder - GTC-65 @ Brands Hatch Indy - 3 Aug 2006
Post by: Simon Gymer on July 29, 2006, 11:18:32 AM +0100
All members welcome.

If you haven't already done so, you must download this addon track (http://www.teamshark.org.uk/files/gtl_tracks/ModMan_GTL_BrandsHatch_Track.zip). If you already have Brands Hatch, it may be wise to delete it and overwrite it with this version so that we can avoid any track mis-matches.

Date: Thursday 3rd August

Practice: 20:30 (15 mins)
Qualifying: 20:45 (20 mins)
Race: 21:05 (42 laps = ~40 mins)

Cars allowed: Jaguar E-Type, Ferrari 275 GTB, Shelby GT350
Time of day: 14:00

Server: UKGTL Ladder; in the event that the lobby is unavailable, connect using Direct IP, entering games.avonrise.co.uk in the Add IP box
Password: See this post (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1665.0)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7). Note in particular that we will be using the new pit lane speed limiter starting procedure.
(3) General information on the ladder can be found on the series home page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?ind=lm2&group=25).
(4) The season will be run using a UKGTL carpack v1.1 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/downloads/UKGTL-skins-1.1.zip) which will need to be installed prior to racing.

the only problem with this track is it is more fun to see how sideways and near the outside white line i can get the car, rather than trying to go fast  :P

No. There will never be a last race. Mwuahahahaha. We just haven't officially scheduled the next one yet, but my crystal ball says it may very well happen next Thursday... :sorcerer:

All in all a good race, but the track IMO is not suited for racing a big field. Lapping was really difficult and there were many close situations. I got a bit frustrated as well as I was trying to get some lead over rik, was acctually able to almost loose him out of the mirrors, but than came up on a group of cars to lap and lost that gap. I felt quite bad because the group of cars were having a great battle and I had to disrupt them not to be overtaken myself - still rik was behind me than and I had to push hard again to get some gap - I than cocked it up into T1 - braked a bit late and went into the gravel and the barrier which cost me the lead. Luckily I was able to finnish the race in second than as the handling was not up to par anymore. On top of that I hate the Jag and was tempted to go for the Ferrari, but it was sadly just too slow to have a chance at the podium.
Still congrats to rik -> excelent drive
Also well done to LeH that was keeping close as well -> luckily the race ended otherwise I would be in trouble.

That was a great race - really enjoyed that one - good battle with Tom i think, then lost it. Ran out of fuel as i put in 42 litres instead of 42 laps...what a dumbass..!  :death:
Thanks everyone - thats what its all about (im easily pleased)
Oh yeah, i spilt beer all over my pants after laughing at whoever made that 'witch' statement at the end..that was funny

First time I've touched GTL in months ... and it showed, had a good battle with Bill (sorry for the tap early on btw) untill the leaders came past, and then I had a few off track capers after spending too much time looking in the mirrors and lost touch with everyone after that.  With the short laps, I was constantly checking my rear view, and with the 350 being a bit of a handful I dropped back and decided to retire.

I'll be getting more (i.e some) oractice in for the next event....

Very enjoyable race, but I'm dizzy now.

Qualified 8th with a decent time. Lost a couple places early on when I made a couple mistakes, but worked my way up to 6th after some good battles. Caught Dave on the last lap, but couldn't get close enough to think about a move, good 5th place. Thought the backmarkers were very aware when I came past to lap them, made it a stress-free experience. Lost some time on occasion, but that's to be expected.

Sorry about drifting across you like that JohnnyDee. Was trying to give you room on the outside, but got a wheel on the grass and started sliding around. Only just managed to hold onto it.

All in all a good race, but the track IMO is not suited for racing a big field. Lapping was really difficult and there were many close situations.

Au contraire, I thought the backmarkers made life very interesting. Very tough to find a way past when they're in a fight of their own in cars every bit as fast as your own. Had to hustle my way through after a couple of laps behind the big pack of ex-ProLeS because Aagramn was really catching me and my tyres felt decidedly second hand. Settled back down into a more comfortable rhythm after getting back into some space but another 2 or 3 laps and I'd have lost a place for sure.

Not sure what happened to Johnny Dee, did you bend something when playing in the sandpit with Dan? You still seemed quicker after you rejoined and I effectively let you past but after that you seemed to be a bit all over the place as if you either had knackered tyres or bent suspension?

Hi Guys
rik is my lobby name as asked 4
Great fun at Brands
Pedro_grozni had the measure of me for almost 2/3 of race, I followed keeping from 1 to 2 seconds apart and tried to keep the rubber on the tyres.
Due to a back marker i closed right up on him and pressed hard for about 3 laps, the great turn 1 and Pero pushed her alittle to hard and spun which gave me enough of a gap to bring the race home.
All the drivers were fantatstic and the drivers letting people through did a great job always with in a few corners at most.
All made for a real fun race.
Thax ever1

Good race guys and grats to podium. Finished top Ferrari which made me feel better although I was 7th overall. Sorry if I got in the way whilst being lapped was having a bit of a tyre and brake issue at the end. Had a good look at the battle between Assaino and one of the Jags at the beginning. Kept my distance and managed to capatalise on a mistake and get past although I think I lost the place back to the Jag.

Using this race as experience we need to update the ladder scoring if necessary. What was the relative performance like between the cars compared to the scoring that each car currently has? Was it pretty close or does it need some adjustments?

The reason those 3 cars were chosen was because on the scoring they look pretty similarly paced, is that correct?

Jaguar E-Type   10.5
Ferrari 275 GTB/C   9.3
Shelby GT350   9.0

Jaguar E-Type   10.5
Ferrari 275 GTB/C   9.3
Shelby GT350   9.0

The only GT350 didn't finish so we'll never know. The Ferrari is probably slightly overrated (or the E-Type underrated) but Assassino was doing a fairly creditable job amongst the middle of the E-Type hoardes until he ran out of go juice.

Not really.
Jag is faster than the Ferrari by about .6~1 sec here and the GT350 is about 2 sec slower per lap than the Jag. On this track that is a big margin.
There are more cases of false clasification - especially the GTC76 class Corvette has a way to high rating - it is acctually quite a bit slower than the 911's.
And in the TC65 the Alfa and Falcon ratings are all wrong - the Alfa will almost always outpace the Falcon - deffinitly in the longer races (tires...)

Don't like add on tracks and would never have willingly chosen any of the three cars to drive BUT what a really good racing experience - with something for everyone right through the field.
Whoever had the idea (Shark or Gizmo I suspect) of choosing those unpopular cars was inspired.
IMO it also closed up the racing because nobody was that expert on any of the cars. Well Done to "The Management"

Thought Brands Indy was a good choice for an add-on track to race at. It has a better flow than most of the short tracks, it's not spoiled by a silly chicane or extreme hairpin. It's quite short, so doesn't take much time to learn, which probably helped the attendance. Made for a busy race, was in a battle for every single one of the 42 laps.

Had a great tussle with Mr Oilseal all race long, if it wasn't for the tab key knowing who to let through and who not to, it could have been messy.  The Ferrari was slower (at least mine was)  than the Jag which I think needs tweaking in the ladder.
Don got past when leaders closed on me and I had to let him through curses under breath >:( Then he lost the back end in clearways and I tried to straighten him up  :)  Thought I just tapped the front but what happened?

Lol, 50/50 all the way that in my book, np for me.
That Ferrari was a real handful!
Funny in the heat of battle things can seem so different, sometimes when you have a look at the replays afterwards you see the other guys only giving it the same as you ;D
and maybe I should take this chance to say sorry to oilseal for running into the back of him during the formation lap (don't know why everyone came to a stand still?) and again for tapping you round later on.

Once more a very nice race. Grats to Pero and rik.

I want to say sorry to Bill, who I bumped off one time, when I was behind him to overlap. You braked much earlier than I expected and I had nowhere dodge.

I also find the choice of cars very nice lately. Its really very challenging and entertaining to drive some of these non-standard, which normally are never used. Even Jag vs. Abarth would make a nice race I guess. Also a good add-on track from time to time helps to keep the races interesting and varied, imho. Keep it up !

I,m afraid I do tend to brake early, I had you and the other cars in my mirror - a few more yards and I would have run wide around the corner for y'all.  Never mind it did not affect my race finishing position - last finisher!!

Good, so it wasn't just my poor driving then.  Didn't have time to practice so just went for the 350 as I like it, and not driven it online ... I'll leave it in the garage next time I'm at Brands.
