 , I guess only a miracle can help me.
   I'm doing 1:38 for Qual.  :'(

Another thing to remember is that the GTR rank times are only for the std Elise, not the car pack we are using. I'm showing 1:38.xxx on there, but have done a late 1:35 in race trim here, which of course doesn't count towards GTR Rank

Ok guys, can someone please tell me what are the main setup changes to be made when driving in the wet?

Cheers

Less tire pressure, less anti-roll bars, less brake pressure, more wing :)

One of my favourite tracks but I've never driven this car here so I was surprised to do 1.34.5 in my first lap... I thought I had a speed bug  ;D I did about 10 laps after that and managed 1:33.191 with a big slide and using my Silverstone setup. If someone explains to me how to attach my setup I would gladly share it with you.

OK I think this should work... http://freeweb.siol.net/mplotajs/Elise_Mat_Qual.svm

Remember this is for dry track. I have no idea how this would work in rain, my guess is you should increase rear wing and coast differential to make it less agressive.

Why is everyone posting dry times when its raining ?  :P

Whats a decent wet lap time around here? Have managed 1:43's so far in limited test, but guessing 1:42's are more the time to aim for? (1:41 if your alien ::) )

Just on the server trying it out ;D
Did a 1-40-0 with soft fronts and hard rears but I just don't know if soft fronts will last the race. Did a 1-41-4 with hards on front. Are the soft wets just for monsoon weather? And has the lighter Elise got any chance of lasting 40mins with them on?
My wet racing history tells me to go for the hards but I'm undecided :-\

I did some testing with the softs myself this evening - they where getting very hot in the corners. I had to drive off line to and cool them.

I know the Elise is kind on its tyres, but I doubt they'd last. Particually if you spin them a few times.

Will the track be wet, but the weather dry (drying track) or will it keep raining the whole race?

I believe it will keep raining for the whole race.

Only ran a few laps last night, getting to the low 1:44's.  Need to tweak the setup though, as it's on a dry setup that I've been using for the last 2 races (albeit with wets on), and then I'm hoping to get down into the 1:42's or somewhere close to it.

Should be an interesting race.

You have to wait for GTR 2 to get that feature I'm afraid.  :P

It's in GTR as well, but with less eyecandy. I once drove a race at Barcelona where the track was wet, but the weather was dry, so I started on intermediates. As the race went on, the track started to dry, and my inters were getting too hot. I had to leave the racing line at the straight to cool them down again. So eventhough it's not very graphics in GTR, the feature is there.

Not in the multiplayer it isn't. You can only do that offline.

The "changeable" setting was removed from the dedicated server I think in patch v1.4 (might have been earlier), thanks Simbin!

Because that was using the 1.5 dedi server, which is actually from an older version of GTR.

Even when it's available, the changeable option causes problems because of extreme changes between the end of the warmup and the start of the race. The only way round it is with a reconaissance lap but that would extend the event time by another 10-15 minutes and require a .PLR file hack.

No, I believe changeable was ok. It is the random setting that produces extreme weather and different between sessions.

The problem with changeable when it was in the server originally was that the change between conditions would often cause slow down and jerkiness whilst it changed conditions. Was a long time ago we used it, so my memory is a bit foggy.

We can but hope that GTR 2 is better.  :-\

I had a small spin at 50 km/h  ???... can't wait for GTR2, judging by the demo they managed to fix this ridiculous low grip at low speeds. After that something happened to my tyres, puncture I guess so I just pressed ESC because there I was in the middle of the track with no control over my car and another pack of cars were approaching. Shame cos I had a nice drive behind Jon.  :-\

I was going reasonably steady in 8th, looking for my first top 10 finish ..... and then I lost connection ..... arses.  Enjoyed it while it lasted though, managed to avoid the big incident at the start - albeit losing a bit of paint as I managed to get round the spinner (and had a good standing start too) and got way up past where I expected to be, reasonably close behind 6th and 7th (I forget who they were).  Finally made a mistake going through the first sequence of turns, just running through the kitty litter and not losing too much.  The better drivers who had gotten snarled up started passing me, but with a few spinners and MP's disco I was sat in 8th.....oh well, happy with the drive at least, just a shame I'll not be getting any points.

I really enjoyed that tonight. Had some great tight racing and managed to stay out of peoples way as they spun out.

Then strangly I spun slightly on lap 5ish and the pit guy came over the radio saying I'd got a flat tyre. Treid to make it back to the pits, but had a very long way to go and was stuggling to keep the car on the road with very little rear end grip. I could just see me taking 3/4 people out, so I DNF'd for safety sake.

(and had a good standing start too)

The standing start was a blast.  ;D

I couldn't see the lights and I saw some cars move. I thought to myelf "ha they've just false started, DQ for them" - then it hit me, my Motec was running!  :o

Fortunatly a few others seemed to be stuck in a daze and I didn't loose too much time.

I was happy with my PB at qually, but it "only" got me 3rd.

The race started reasonable. I could almost follow Matjaz and Jon, but slowly they were running away. I saw Matjaz spin and I was thinking he would be close to my rearbumper in no time, but he left.
At the same corner as where Matjaz spun, I also spun. I though the rejoin would be easy, but the car just went completely straight, like I was sliding down the banked corner. Utter stupidity. Sorry Edza and ? (black car).
The rest of the race was lonely, which was better, as my bad rejoin was haunting through my head the rest of the race. I hate it when I cause trouble.

Grats to Jon for his fast race and win.

Shame about your spin/tyre Matjaz it looked like it could be a thriller :( And of course with you behind me i'm sure my mistakes would've flowed ;) Thanks to all the the guys I lapped. You made it very easy for me :thumbup1:
And thanks to Matjaz for the setup ;D

Well that was fun.

Not unhappy with Q8. Race started ok, me a Jam had some paint swapping in the 1st lap, good hard driving there in the rain. Then had a couple of silly spins, I seemed to overtake Flybri 4 times in as many laps. Got it together and started doing consitant laps, got up to 7th, 12sec behind Mark J.

Thought ok, 6 mins left, that was it.

BUT Mark then spun in T2 and I was upto 6th (My highest place). A few laps to go and I was home and dry(wet). Came up behind Gerald into the triple left hander and he had understeer into the corner, put on the brake to compensate and I had no where to go (racing incident). That aloud Mark back through, so finished 7th. Great race guys,

Well done Jon.

Great race in these little beasties once again  8)  The wet certainly added to the spice  :o

Qualied 6th in tough qually battle up front, pipping Greg by a 100th :P

Race start was awful for me as it dawned on me i hadnt even practised or ever done a standing start in the wet ::) I lost about 4-5 places before the first corner  :(
But then there were a couple of spinners up ahead through contact/wet and i moved back to my 6th spot and had some good battles with Jamera and others along the way, with Adam P keeping a watching brief a little way back for quite a few laps.

After a while i closed up on Greg who was running 3rd, and then had a great lap after lap battle glued to his rear bumper, trying to find a way past and really hassling him, but he kept his cool and nerve and the battle continued 8)
Meanwhile Dan Minton was taking advantage of our fight and closing fast until he finally caught us. I then got up the inside of Greg out of turn 2 and steamed down to the left hand turn 3 on the inside, but whilst trying to watch the corner and Greg beside me and Dan in my mirrors  :o, i just locked the anchors and the car went skidding straight across the curve and into the sand trap, whilst Greg wisely braked a tad early and turned in tighter behind my aqua-planing car. :'(
Dropped to 6th with only 8mins remaining, which quickly became 7th when i double downshifted in turn 2 on the following lap >:( Fortunately for me, Big G? then careened off the road in the fast 's' curves and i brought it home a decent 6th.

Great racing all the way and top driving also by the back markers who made every effort to allow the front runners through  8)

Congrats to JonM on a great win in the wet  8)

Qualified 5th as I have expected after practice session. Busy weekend and moody fiance resulted in a situation, where 30 minutes before race was all I got for practice :D

Start went smooth unlike last race. I even gained one position overtaking Dan Minton before T1.

I had a plan to finish third. To do it I just had to overtake one car in front of me (or wait for someone to spin :D). After 7 laps of nice and tight fight I went straight in T9 and dropped to sixth. If it was not for Matjaz 'dance' I would probably finish at that place. Unfortunately during my spin some innocent folk approached and managed to loose some speed by hitting me. Just hope nothing bad happened to his car as I feel bad my mistake caused someone problems.

Later, just 4 laps before end of the race I locked my front wheels (at least that's what MOTEC says - to me it felt like broken suspension) at T1 and at full speed blasted all the way down the hill (probably screaming :D, must ask my family). Fortunately my guardian angel was quicker than me and managed to stop me just before fence so I could rejoin without even losing a place :D

Finished fifth with some nice points scored! Fine race to me. Just wish I had my Subaru AWD installed in Lotus for this particular one :D

Thx all lapped drivers for great job, especially Edza and Jamera. It is a pleasure to drive with you.

Congratulations to the Winner!

Good race for me. Didnt realise it was a standing start and got jumped by Pedro at the start , kept him insight for the first few laps until he spun at the chicane out the back and couldnt avoid him which sent me spinning of into the gravel.  Rejoined in 13th and had an awesome race carving throught he field to end up third. ;D
grats to Jon on the win.

Well that was yet again, loads of fun!  :D I'm beginning to get used to the Elise (maybe even prefer racing it as opposed to my GT3!) and got a PB in qual after tinkering with my Silverstone setup (which I couldn't believe how good it felt! omg - I setup a setup that rocked!!! well, for me anyway  ;) )
Had a good start and started getting the feel of things when I got tapped on the first lap at the third corner. I set off after that on a mission and was catching and racing out of my skin!
Loving every second of it! It's a pretty good track in the wet!....except when you start aquaplaning! ::) which I ended up doing.

Got lapped a few times and just enjoyed the rest of the racing until I got sandbanked with a puncture and couldn't get out.

Really looking forward to Enna now!  8)

No problem whatsoever Ruskus, I was making sure I wouldn't crash into you seeing as you were doing so well, think I unlapped myself pretty soon after you lapped me when you spun out. ;)

Thx all lapped drivers for great job, especially Edza and Jamera. It is a pleasure to drive with you.

Cheers Pedro!  Yeah, I am pretty wary of making sure I can give as clear an overtaking space as possible for lapping cars....maybe someday I'll be on the other side of the fence (although I did lap someone for the first time in Silverstone!  ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8) - that was such a cool feeling I nearly cried!  ::))

It's always a pleasure to drive with all you guys to be honest, the spirit of racing in this community is something that raises it above a hell of a lot of other communities.

Hehe, yes TT....i await your return for some more swash-buckling adventures  ;D  :fencing:

Actually, considering the wet conditions i had a very incident free race and enjoyed some great close racing throughout the whole race with various people
My off late in the race was unfortunate but purely a racing move which could have been either a 'great podium grabbing move' or, as it turned out, didnt pay off  :(..but was worth the risk with a possibly better handling car than Gregs :-\ and Dan also breathing down my neck. Greg drove with all the wisdom of a GP master ;D and i was surprised to see Dan had got past him at the end.

Great stuff all the same.  8)
