Password: See this post (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1665.0)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7). Note in particular that we will be using the new pit lane speed limiter starting procedure.
(3) General information on the ladder can be found on the series home page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?ind=lm2&group=25).
(4) The season will be run using a UKGTL carpack v1.2 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/downloads/UKGTL-skins-1.2.zip) which will need to be installed prior to racing.

There is a big problem with the sky in this track. Some people only see a black sky, and others (like me) get weird artefacts of other objects in the sky. It flickers like hell and kills the framerate sometimes. I can't imagine driving a race like that.  :o

See also the Istanbul thread on the RSCnet forums, where many people report this problem: http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=255452

yeah man, Track reload fixes that prob

Title: Re: UKGTL Ladder - GTC-76 @ Istanbul - 21st September
Post by: LeH on September 15, 2006, 02:15:13 AM +0100
Well, not really. After tinkering some more, it works maybe 1 out of 10 times for me. And then the additional problem if you play online is, that if you reload a track without reloading the whole game, you often get either stuck in the infinite track reload loop, or you get disconnected from the server after a few minutes (old general GTL bugs). Thats why I always restart the game, before I reload a track in multiplayer, but when I do this, I always get the sky problem.  ::)

Just tried this out, the tack loaded and the sky was ok the FIRST time I'll keep an eye out for any probs with textures tho.
Nice track too

I had no problems when testing it. Thanks for the heads up, I'll get it checked out and substitute the track if necessary.

Out of interest are you running 32-bit or 16-bit textures?

Title: Re: UKGTL Ladder - GTC-76 @ Istanbul - 21st September
Post by: LeH on September 15, 2006, 05:29:35 PM +0100
I'm running 32 Bit. I tinkered with a lot of different settings (DX8, DX9, FSAA on and off, texture update, different graphic settings ingame, redownloading the track, and more), but I haven't found anything that would help with this problem.

Thanks for the warning. Was OK when I tried it, but lots of people reporting problems in that thread on RSC.

I can't for the life of me get it to not work for me. Tried lots of reloads and nighttime etc.

Think we might change it anyway. Shame as Istanbul is very challenging.

When I get it to work, I must say, I love the track. This "quadrupel apex" turn is really something unique and it is indeed very challenging.

Nevertheless, also if Dutch Devil usually makes good tracks (or conversions), imho, this is not one of his materpieces. You easily get tons of cut-warnings if you get wide only a bit at several occasions (even if a big part of the car is still inbetween the white lines). Also the track doesn't seem to support different track detail levels. So there is no way to reduce framedrops in certain areas like the s/f straight (even when I'm alone on the track, and not with 20 other cars). For me this track is even worse than the Nürburgring in this regard. I have to turn down my resolution to run it smooth (ok, my normal widescreen resolution is rather demanding, but even on Nürburgring I didn't have to change the resolution).

I don't want to talk anyone into changing the track only because I have problems. With some tweaking, I'm getting it to work well enough to live with it now. But still I think its likely that also others will run into similar issues, and don't find this track an enjoyable experience.

Has anyone tried the following.

In the GTL\GameData\Locations\Istanbul open the istanbul.trk file with notepad (or another text editor).

Change the line

MASFile=skies_central.gtl

to

MASFile=skies_lowtex_central.gtl

I don't have this problem with GTL but did have the same thing with the GTR2 demo and this fixed it.

Hope this helps

I get good fps, 60+ with 15 cars, didnt get the sky texture thingy tho. Guess the cut track warnings are so close to the track coz of the tarmac run off areas! I still think its challenging and an amazing track to race.

mmm....3 wide into quadruple-apex T8 has to be worth something :D

A good idea, but it didn't work. Also I'm not sure if this wouldn't cause a "mismatch" warning when playing online.

Thanks anyways, Mooman.

Can anyone that has 5 minutes spare time try this track out and see if they have any problems. The more testers the better.

Thanks.

I've just tried this with no problems with the sky, tried reloading, using different track and reloading etc. Graphics were fine.

However the first time I tried the game the ESC key wouldn't work and the only way I could get back to the garage was by driving backwards until DQ'ed  :-\

ESC continued to be broken, I tried GTR too, and I had to reboot to get it to work again, 2nd time round everything was fine. No idea what's been going on there

Nvidea gfx here, if it makes any difference

Well i HAVEN'T specifically ran a private test session but ive playing it allot online of late...so thats the closest to what we'll be running on thursday. Havnt encountered a single problem myself and ive asked those i raced with to report any as well, specifically the sky texture issues. None of late.

Did pit stop tests, suspicious cut warnings test and its ok...only problem is that nasty bump leading onto the back straight that throes the panty into the wall if u dont lift slightly  :P

I have found a texture update on no-grip (http://www.no-grip.net/index.php?categoryid=2&filenr=1131),...not sure if it includes a sky texture but worth a try LeH.

Also Mr troublesome LeH, what gfx card/model u running..and i assume/hope ur gfx drivers are up to date ofc  ::)

I've tried it and get awful FPS just driving the track in a private test session. God knows what it'll be like in a race.

Hi Shark

Had no trouble with this track so far

But can someone tell me why I have to prat about with my steering wheel every time I change car or track. It's annoying me now as it does most Thursdays

Kind Regards

Mike "Oilseal" Cooper

When you say prat about, do you mean, GTL "loses" your wheel?
I get that nearly all the time in GTL. When I first connect into a game, it's lost my wheel, so I have to go into the menus and lower FF to High then put it back to Full. This cures it and I carry on. Very very annoying.

That texturefix was the first thing I tired, when I saw the problems with the track, unfortunately it didn't help (and the normal textures are far prettier imho btw).

I have a nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra with latest drivers (91.31). According to the RSCnet thread, the problems occure as well with nVidia as also with ATI cards, so I would assume that its rather not a driver problem.

But like I said, I have tinkered a lot with it and can now work around the issues with the track, tho its a bit annoying. Apart from the technical issues, I really love it the more I drive it, and I'm starting to think I would be sad to not drive it next race. :)

** edit **
91.47 nVidia drivers have been released on Thursday. Maybe I'll give these a try.

the solution.
I think thats in the same category as this Michelle Pfieffer day dream I keep having. Ah well. Over here Michelle

Curiously, the fix for that is to fiddle with your wheel while the track is loading. Put your feet on the pedals and move them about a bit, and the steering wheel too.  Since I started doing that as a 'routine', GTL hasn't lost my wheel once!

1p, you should just be able to extract it to your game root directory  ie c:\gtl   and it should install the team files to their proper sub directories.

SHark,  i tested the track and it was fine, no problems at all. Tried practise, qually and race seshs and tried pitting, all fine. Even the AI had no problem racing it and took decent lines thru corners etc.

Nice track by the way, will suit the more leggy cars and would be great in GTR2  8)

Great track, looking for this race althought im slow in pantera, big track for big cars it´s fair.

P.S: and i thought the bug was because our pantera skin.

I asked like 10 ppl about this prob and every one of them said "oh that...ive had it once, just re-join the server, it'll fix it!"

Which is what i told LeH, but last night we had a race there and he still had the problem...doesnt seem to have affected his pace :D

cyas tonight then!!!

So dont worry Ruskus...u'll be fine  :P

I don't know if I'm going to bother with this one, had 3-4 laps on it last night, had the black sky to start with - altough it wasn't that offputting.

Don't know if it's just me not having driven on GTL in the big cars for a while, but there seemed to be a lot less traction than there would be normally.  Took the Pantera out for a lap and I was spinning all over the place.  Got on much better with the Capri, but still wasn't very smooth.

I'll give it a couple more laps when I get home, and if I'm still not getting on with it I'll be on GTR2 instead.

He is right then. I can't practice offline for a long time as I just get too bored of hotlapping. I need other people around at the track to get me motivated, and also LTT to give me more grip towards the end of the sessions ;D

2:10 or 2:11 are quite reasonable. If you can't go faster, pick a faster car ;D.

The world record at GTL rank is 2:08, so I've got some work to do ;)

The aliens were doing 2:07s last night; I'm still trying to push down to 2:10 and I know there's more there.  The Panty is a beast on this track but with delicate handling and that low end torque you should be able to stay on the track.

Just before the race I noticed that my pedals didn't reach 100% anymore, and I had no idea how DXtweak worked, so I had to deal with it. It wasn't that bad, when fully pressed, it reached 95%, and after 1s it reached 99%, but I lost lot'of time under acceleration.

Nontheless I was quite happy with my time at qually.

Race started nice, great 4 car battle upfront, and it was becoming a nice race. After a few laps I overtook LeH.

Halfway down the race I was looking at my pitboard, and thinking: "I'm 1,1s infront.....oh, that was my brakemarker.....iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" And I went wide, giving 1st to Pero.
I could follow him a bit, but I lost lot's of time with 2 backmarkers. I was just unlucky that I met them at unfortunate places, so not much that could have be done, and that's racing. Shit happens.

If you know of good videomaterial, please pm me or right it in your racedebrief. Don't have to ofcourse, but it makes it easier for me :-*.

Does anybody know how to decrease range in DXtweak? Because DFP is reversed, do I have to change minimum range?

Thanks in advance.

Phew that was a tough race once again.

Had real problems joining the race as every time i entered the server my controls stopped working and yet were fine in single player mode ??? I had to dis-engage my new router and then it worked fine....any ideas guys? The router was also making it hardwork to log onto the multiplayer lobby. Internet and email work fine.

Had tough race, only qualied 9th/10th as had no proper practise in Pantera (cos of above). Pace was exceptional as always in the top 10.
Enjoyed great early battle with Johnny Dee, James and particularly Assassino in the other Pantera, as we diced for lap after lap until he lost it in the uphill right climb.
Then enjoyed watching James and JD have a titanic scrap up ahead for a while until James gradually pulled away from me after JD span.
Then nothing to do for a while until i noticed my tyres getting worse and the car becoming a real handful to turn in on the twisty sections, and like a hungry hyenna, BIg G crept up on me lap after lap until he made a great move down the inside through the lap end twisties and nicked my hard earned 9th off me, good driving mate. 8)
Almost lost 10th to a recovering JD but the race end saved me as he closed in for the kill too, so 10th was my final finish...a lot of hard work for a lowly 10th  :'(

Congrats to the podium guys.  8)

It's a whopper of a BUG in GTL. I get it on every single multiplayer race. I hope they've fixed it in GTR2 but why do I doubt they've even bothered.

You don't need to exit the game to get it working again, simply do this...
Still in game, no need to exit server or anything, go to the controls menu and select the force feedback tab. Change force feedback from Full to High and back again (or whaver setting you run). That will magically make your controls start working.

It's a sodding annoying game bug and one they should have fixed by now!

Not fixed in GTR2 :-X.

I also want to thanks Shark for the great Pantera skin. "Historic Shark on board" ;D

Good race - much unexpected that I was preety much up to speed although never even see this track till about 45 min before practise started so I was very much devestated when I saw LeH do a 2:07.9 straight away in qually and barely managed a mid 2:09 just minutes before in singleplayer. So I was in for a steep learning curve of the track which I managed after a few laps - was even 0,5 sec up on the first split in one of the laps. Certanly now I could do much better in qually.
Anyhow - race was good - lost some ground at the start and than started catching. When Ruskus went for the pass on LeH I was right there and next lap I was able to pass leh into the last corner - we were side by side trough the last section. Than I started to push and trying to cathc Ruskus - did nothing for about two laps and than got into my groove and drove some fast laps to cut the gap a bit. After Ruskus went wide I got into the lead and was able to controll the gap - I was pushing just enough to not kill my tires as I knew Ruskus had to push more to catch up and would kill his tires before I would mine. That was also what happened at the end - last few laps I was able to take less risks and drove home a very welcome win.
However - grats to LeH on the great qually lap - last minute attack which resulted in a great lap. I tried to do the same but I seemengly punctured my right rear on the out lap as I was having huge slides at low speeds into lefthanders

Wow, another really great race!!  I had practiced Pantera but was convinced by my teammate to try the Capri; still not sure, but I think I would've been faster in Panty (more experience).  But I did a PB in qual, even though it wasn't a very good time, and started P9.  The warmup lap started out okay but became disasterous when the cars ahead braked suddenly at the apex of a tight turn just as I was looking in my rearview mirror and the tap took part of my aero.  Early in the race that cost me dearly as the front runners sped off and I had a train behind me; I was never able to get down to my qual time again, either.

A few laps in james had a spin (replay 495 sec); I came upon a sideways 911 with a train behind me and had to decide quickly: he needed to go forward to recover, so I aimed to go behind him and he was able to rejoin behind Jonzo who went a little wide out of the braking zone.  That set the stage for some wonderful racing a few laps later when james caught me!  We've had a bunch of great racing so I knew things would be clean and fun.  I could feel his frustration as he was obviously faster than I in several places ... but some of those were tough passing areas like the chicane before the front straight.  Two consecutive laps we were side-by-side through the left at the bottom of the hill (starting about 730 secs & again with a sweet draft about 860 secs), really great stuff since it's hard to go through there alone, let alone as a duo.  Watching the replay I can see we both left huge room there but at the time the monstrous sound of the 911 made it seem much closer.  My Capri could pull away on the straights so james had to bide his time and get the moment, which he eventually did when I erred and went wide after 2 laps of tight racing.  I want to apologize to james for the errors I made while he was behind me -- the 911 has BIG sound and it was very difficult to hear my Capri which is rather quiet.  james also gets kudos for cleanliness!  :)

So james is speeding off into the distance when all of sudden, d'oh, another spin (replay 1130 sec)!  And right in that very same turn where we'd been side-by-side the previous laps.  When I was growing up my friends called me JD, King of Clearance, and I'll be interested to see the server replay as mine shows the most mild bit of contact as I came through, though I didn't feel it at the time (could be the usual lag thing).  But we had to be close enough to swap paint, wow!!  I kept my drive and james was hot on it again too, catching me quickly a few turns later.  I had sweat in my eyes by this point and it was just a matter of time before the inevitable error; sure enough, coming out of that uphill right hander with the bumps that throw the Pantera I got some tail spin (replay 1234 sec) and all I could think of was james right behind me!!  I kept on the gas to stay out of the way but once that was assured I ended up killing the engine which cost huge time and firmly ended the fun with james.

I was pretty drained at this point and spent many laps near ASSASSINO, which is also fun with great visuals of the GS Pantera.  I had big problems getting good laps then (exacerbated by the tires fading) but towards the end of the race I found myself slowly catching Marc Jonzo and BigG (who was having some lag...).  With a few more laps (or fewer errors earlier...) I might have been able to recover the positions I lost from my spin, but I was actually glad the race ended so I could dry off.  :p

Grats to the winners and thanks again for a great race!  And kudos to the skin makers, very good work; it was refreshing in qual to see new cars.

WOW good race!!!

I was bushed...traveling most of the day with work stuff!!! arghh! got home a 8:10pm and just didn’t feel right! :(

Anyway, the previous night half of the guys who raced tonight had a Istanbul race warm up and i knew LeH would do 2:07 but i wasn't worried as in that race i did a 2:07:5 :D

BUT!!....my wheel didn’t feel right for some reason..dunno if my little brother was messing around with it an had to put up with it as 15 mins left in quali!!!  >:(

As suspected only crap quali time but i adjusted in the race but nowhere near what i could’ve achieved..so upset i am :D

Start was great 4 of us running close, nice skilled driving with no mishaps and as soon as i saw Ruskus and pedro moving in on LeH i knew i had to pounce, and did and settled into a rhythm (knowing where LeH is quicker and slower) controlled him like my little poodle on a leash! LOL! That went on for like 12 laps i think and by lap 3 i had 2 warnings already OMG!!! LOL!....but i kept calm and drove quite well i must say :)

So all in all i great race but i know i could’ve been up there as i was a 2nd slower than usual! (wow nice typo :D :D :D)

grats to everyone else that finished!

....1 more thing..sry if i mention this here but i appreciate back markers fighting for position but....I got viciously brake tested, blocked and slammed into a drift that nearly caused a spin. I won’t submit an incident report coz i like u guys, it was unintentional ofc and am just too bloody lazy :D

Just had a look at the Points table and was quite suprised to see I was down to P2 even though I have better results than Ruskus (# of wins and podiums). I dont want to complain at all as I know that the points get calculated based on the car choice. I am suprised though as I was mostly in the same car as Ruskus. I noticed that the scores are calculated based on the absolute car rating and not on the relative car rating within it's class. In my oppinion that is a false way of calculating things - I reckon that a win should be worth the same ammount than a win if the first win was driven with the best car of class GTC76 and the second win was driven with the best car of TC65. As it is now the TC65 get more points be default which is not correct in any book. I guess this way you can allow mixed field races, but I think that the problem of calculating points for a car outside that fied could be solved othervise.
Why not give the best car within the class the same rating as the best car from another class. That way it would make more sence - at least to me, especially as the bigger cars are usually much more difficult to bring trough the race.
Sorry for the OT - I just have noticed this and thought it was worth to mention.

Agree with you Radius - why I wrote is that I saw that situation and couldnt quite understand why. How can a win in a Falcon be worth less than a third in an Alpine - Falcon being on level with Alfa in that race as the best car and the A110 being the best choice in that race. I have thought a bit and saw that my first assumption as false and that the best car of the classes get the same point, but in a race where the best cars of the class are allowed you can get less points for the win that in a race where the slower cars in the class are fielded although you take the fastest of the choices.
Kinda sorry that I started the toppic - dosent really matter anyhow. It just bothers my mathematical side to see inconsistensy like that.

I couldn't get to grips with the track at all, even in the normally surefooted 906.  Right from the start it was going to be a dull race for me, and then 7 laps in I had issues with the computer, resulting in a spin and hitting a wall.

After that, I just didn't have the will to  carry on.  Don't think I'll be racing at Istanbull again.

I should have practised more here, started to get some good momentum - by the last 5 laps, which is no good!

Grats to the winners, and everyone that finished.

In relation to points, on the ladder score board, why are points awarded and then not given, i.e entered in a lighter font and not added to the drivers current points total?

This has happend to me, (hey its only 5 points, and i know i'm probably classed as one of the backmarker drivers) but i just wondered why?

The individual ladders only score the best 4 of 6, hence the grey scores. The overall one is the best 6 of 9 (I think - click the scoring links on the standings to see the details).

I noticed that the scores are calculated based on the absolute car rating and not on the relative car rating within it's class.

It makes no difference. The points you score are relative to the ratings of the cars you beat - by design, beating 10 Alfas in an Alfa gets you the same points as beating 10 Capris in a Capri.

You do get more points for winning a race with more entrants, but IMO it's right and proper that that should be worth more.

is this related to the fact that this program does not work well with GTL????

Probably has something to do with using add-on tracks, as they are not in the GTL reporter. Or maybe problems in the logfile, as the the Reporter just converts them into graphs. There were some errors during the making, but I think this all is due to the add-on track.
