Title: UKGTL Season 20 GTL Cup Challenge - Donington Park - Aug 17
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on June 16, 2020, 10:50:52 PM +0100
Championship standings HERE (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1052&theme=5)

Grid/server capacity: 22

Track: Donington Park (National)

Cars allowed: Austin Healey 3000, Austin Mini Cooper S, Jaguar MkII, Jaguar E-Type (#820 only), Lotus Cortina, Lotus Elan, Lotus Elite, TVR Griffith 400

CUP STAGE A, Round 6

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (36 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: To score points in this series you must complete over 50% of the overall race distance.

IMPORTANT

To be able to practice and qualy in the daylight go to Gamedata, Locations, Donington. Open nDonington.GDB file with notepad and change line's

Practice1start = to 10:00

Qualify1Start = to 11:00

and save allowing to overwrite.

Driver's who don't do this will throw up miss-match messages (and we know where you live  :shifty: )

Variety
            Instead of an all Lotus Elan grid, let's go for maximum variety and and give all under 1300cc + Jaguar MK2 drivers a bonus of 5 points extra.
I'd like to enter the TVR 400 please ( fast but no brakes and never discovered any decent handling either)  :devil:

Hi Dan

That's a nice idea but for this series I'm sticking to the original cup as closely as possible (with the exception of lap count).

No need to pre-book cars for this series.

I'm taking the big Healey, should be more of a challenge than the obvious choices of Elan & TVR.

As I'm out this afternoon and not sure when I will get home, I have started the race server now.

Hope to be back in time for qualy.

I'll be avoiding the Trevor and Elan as well, likely to be in the 'Tina.....

TVR has a substantial advantage in the right hands here, no question.

Quite enjoyed throwing the Healey around Donington, but it was a pretty lonely race. It looked like it could shape up to be an exciting race in the mid-pack with practice times quite close. It turned out rather different though & after the opening few laps when I could still see Nocatu ahead & Clive in my mirrors behind, the only other car I saw all race was Dan's Mini when I lapped him. I did have to push on a bit mid-race when Tony started to catch me but he must have made a couple of mistakes & allowed me to finish the race in peace.

Congrats to Erling & Nocatu.  :clap: :clap:

Your quite right Geoffers, I was trying to reel you in and even had the gap down to sub 10 secs. But the Lotus started misbehaving on only slightly worn tyres and the more I pushed the more errors occurred.

Well you made it to the race so I hope it was worth it.

Hope you make a full recovery asap. In these worrying times a cold is positively good news.

Kudos to all of the driver's who didn't plump for the obvious choices  :thumbup1:

Please all read this https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=20432.msg398342#msg398342 and let me know if it's the right way to go.

For the next cup series (Stage B) I have added restrictions on car choice, where needed.

Thanks, Tony. I was feeling better and better as the day progressed, but i started to feel worse after the first 10 laps of the race. This wasn't the reason for my poor driving, i was just slow that night. I had great chase with Matt though for at least 20 laps and that made my race cool.

Seems I should be embarassed for using the TVR.  Sorry, had only practiced with it and the Elan, before they were declared pariahs in the forum.  No time to switch to another one, and didn't think I'd be the only one. Besides, as I suck at driving it, I genuinely expected the aliens to be quicker in lesser cars.  Keeping it under control for 36 laps also seemed unlikely.  When nocatu switched to Elan, I expected to be in trouble - I could almost match my TVR times in the Elan, and I suck at driving that one too.

Surprised then to be on pole.  Absolutely nailed the start - pity Dan couldn't see it  :D   Had nocatu for company over the early laps, but gradually opened a gap.  Rest of the race lonely and uneventful, apart from lapping a few cars.  Was nice to finish on the podium; not often that happens these days.  Grats to nocatu & Geoffers, and commiserations to the retirees.
