Season 37 – Mixed Open Wheel championship

This season, races are to be run at 60fps – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4584#entry33919). If you have issues read festers post (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12905.msg232771#msg232771).

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

The races will be run as follows:

Car set: 1965 F1, 1966 F1, 1967 F2 and 1968 F1 (early).
Date: Every second Tuesday from 7th July 2020
Time: No later then 9:00pm UK Time (30-60 mins practice, race starts at 9:30pm)
Race Length: 50 minutes
Damage Model:  Intermediate
Server: TBA
Race List: IGOR
Divisional Moderator: Billy Nobrakes

IMPORTANT
All drivers who enter this series must chose a 'team'. The teams are mainly based on the F1 team, with a few minor changes. Details are shown in the Mixed Open Wheel Series page (see link above). We have created 9 nine groups. The only restriction is that Pro / Works standard drivers cannot select Groups 8 or 9. There is a great deal of choice where some teams had a fairly poor car in some seasons but a much more competitive car in other years. Once you have selected a team / group you must stick with it for the whole season. When voting can you please indicate which team / group you will be driving for.

"Works" drivers are not allowed any resets.

"Privateer" drivers are allowed a maximum of one reset with a compulsory Stop & Go within two laps.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

What about Download 2 ?

DL 1 is 68 early season offline
DL 2 is late season offline

DL 3 is 68 early season online

DL1 contains pictures of the 68 season in menues that are not in DL3, for me only the DL3 is enough and working.
if you want the 68 pics in menues first install DL1 and then let DL3 overwrite...

I've registered but I can't decide which group I prefer. This championship should be a lot of fun  ;D

Old Jack gave me a lot of money to enter his team so Group 8 for me.

I will try the Honda as a reserve...

So IMHO I am driving Group 6  ::)

I have d/loaded the 68 mod and installed in my GPL folder.
Using GEM, I have "activated" the carset and it appears in the "active carsets" column. In fact I have one carset for "EARLY" and one for "LATE" in the right hand column.

But, when I return to the GEM main screen and try to use the drop down menu to link the "Early" carset to my new driver name....I can only see the "LATE" carset??  Should I be able to see an "EARLY" carset that we will be using for the online races?

I have fired up the 68's offline and set graphics/sound/controls etc and all appears OK, but it appears that I am running the "Late" option only??!!  :-\

I'm sat in a motorcycle shop getting my bike MOT'ed ATM so I can't check on my computer but I think you have to go into GEM and select each carset, early and late, as separate mods.

I think I'll go for Group 5 (Matra), since nobody has selected that group set and it would be nice to see some blue cars on the grid.

There will be 2 races with mod68, as Clive said there are two separate carsets. Which one should be used for these 2 races (early or late) ?

BTW, its the first time I see a single mod with two separate carsets !

DL and unpack the DL1 68 early season offline - just copy the layout folder and put it in your GPL folder - you get the right 68s pics!

There is a technical reason for this which you can read about on the 68Mod about (http://68f1.gplworld.de/about.htm) page.

However, I think this has worked out quite well in practice. There was a lot of aerodynamic development in 1968 and the later cars carried much more wing so we would have probably had to run separate races anyway. A bit like we do with the 66 2L and 66 3L cars.

Chris  (pioujd428), the single maker of the 68mod has made the 67extra mod too!

67xtra mod has 7 carsets! Each is a separate install - (offline)

I think I'll go with Group4 Cooper. I had still to install 68 Mod, wasn't aware of it till now.  ???

If you want to test your installation, UKGPL_4 is up on iGOR running the 68 mod at Watkins Glen.

Just a subtle reminder - you need to select the Group / Team you will be racing for before the series starts. Line ups confirmed so far.
Group 4 - Cooper - Fulvio
Group 5 - Matra - Phil Thornton
Group 6 - Honda - Evil & Cookie
Group 7 - Ferrari - Andreas & Paul V
Group 8 - Brabham - Rainier & Billy

The only restriction is Pro drivers are not permitted to take Groups 8 or 9. If there were two  drivers for each Group we could have a 'Manufacturer's Title' championship - but feel please don't feel obliged to let that influence your choice. 

I should like to nominate Group #3, pls.  That's the BRM lot.

it's dificult for me run tuesday here in mexico, it's work time, but I try to enjoy some races, not full.....i'm in or i'm at not complete in.

I'd probably have taken the Lola T100 FVA if it was free choice,  but I know it doesn't work like that!

I'm gonna add some blue life also to the grid. Phil, you have company in the Matra force! Group 5 for me.

I registered for a full time drive, but this week I knew that my work schedule MIGHT change for the second semester, which would mean working (as a teacher) at 6pm Brazilian time, which is currently 10pm UK summer time. (you have it, right? because here in Brazil last year we didn't adopt summer time)

If it confirms, unfortunately I'll have to drop out and make maybe one or two races when I have a bank holiday here :'(
Anyway, for the Tucuman and Mexico City races I'm sure I can make it

I will test the installation of the 60FPS for the mods because I only have the 67 today.
If everything is ok and there was still room, I would be ok for group 1, not that I feel stronger than others, on the contrary, but so that in case of abandonment or bad results i have a good excuse :)

A group 1 driver will mean that all 9 manufacturing teams are represented.

Tucuman is a a short circuit & with a full grid I expect there will be lots a lapping. Please take care, lapping drivers should exercise a little patience & the lapped drivers should give way where it is safe to do so.

Just select mod65 and 60fpsv2newmod in GEM+ before clicking on green button iGor (same for mod67 or other mods).

I've only just d/l the 68 mod, the four permutations twisted my melon for a minute, "cant load track" etc. A restart and some fettering seems to have fixed it. Thanks cookie for the short/idiots install guide.
I created a 68L and 68E driver, is this a mistake?
Also, glpracer have a 68late server on igor as I type this, igor shows me the ?? as if I have no mod installed, but i can join and drive.

For this series we are using the '68 Early car set.

That is what I've done and it works for me. So I don't think it is a mistake

I'm not aware a 68 Late on-line car set has been produced. So this is either a typo or a new (unreleased) mod is being tested. No idea why you can join, were there 68 Late cars on the server with you?

I've undone the two drivers thing. So we will see on that front.
It was deffo late, their sever was called 68 late in the mod column, i checked the cars and the brabham 23b was not available when i joined their server. The cars that were on track...i cant be sure.

Yes they test an online 68L,
but it's not yet released and all you can have downloaded of the 68L, is offline.

I'm new here. If poss I would like to join group 1 (Eagle). I'm not the quickest but hopefully you'll have fun passing me. What happens next? Do I just turn up for a race on IGOR? Sorry to be such a newbie to online racing.

Welcome to UKGPL. I 've processed your registration so you should be able to see the race passwords for the Mixed Open Wheel races when they appear.

We normally have practice servers up on Igor, please join them to test your connection before the league races.

Please have a read through the rules (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro) pages if you are new to on-line racing with GPL. There are lots of useful tips on there.

You have a free choice about which group / manufacturer. If you want a higher ranked group that's fine, just let me know prior to the first race day.

I've processed your registration Philippe, you should be able to see the password now. Billy will advise on which Group you should drive but I think he will be OK with Group9.  Good luck tonight. You are a reserve but you should get a race. We have 22 drivers registered but it is very unusual for more than 19 to turn up to race.

It is the Early car set. The on-line version of the late car set wasn't available when we announced the series.

I'll take Ferrari if it is available.
