I wanted to know, a 90 minute run is too much for me,so I did not register at the Grand Prix

Hi folks,

I did not join online racing yet but I am looking forward to do so :D. I am not sure how many races I can join. But I will try to take part in as many as I can. However, I will test today how good GPL is running with the 60fpsV2newmod on my slightly old computer. Till now I never experienced problems but I was running with 36fps only.

As I never joined an online race yet I have a few newbie questions. I checked IGOR already and there is a server online for Kyalami already. So I guess I can test beforehand if I can connect and everything works fine?
Furthermore, apart from applying 60fpsV2newmod, driving in a gentlemanly behaviour and having a stable internet connection, is there anything else I should know beforehand? How do you chat/communicate before and during events?
I already read the regulations and the stuff about the token system etc...

Hallo Markus

Welcome to UKGPL - it seems you have allready informed yourself about the rules and racing behaviour here. :thumbup1:
Any questions - just ask ;)

A good idea to start with the 67s Sprint season

We just started to use teamspeak and Dave has set up a permanent UKGPL TS Server where you can join,
atm we are a mix of english and german speaking drivers in TS and have lots of fun together.

At the top of each race post you see the TS data and the PW used for the race.

A good idea to use the UKGPL training servers at igor to get used to the feeling.

Maybe you can give David a hint of your speed (Rank) so he can classify you as Works or Privateer

CU on track

to register for this series you have to vote in the poll at the top of this thread.

Thanks for the info Cookie,

you might remember me from srmz as Markus_Gras (Linux related threads). I will setup teamspeak and hopefully I will be ready with it on Sunday (I am travelling from Thursday to Sunday afternoon...).

I am driving GPL since last November and I concentrated on the original Papy tracks to learn the sim. Current GPLRank handicap: -33.621 (mostly driven with the Eagle). I think I still have to learn some things with regards to consistency for a 50min race. We will see...

Are you now using linux for racing?

I had problems with pulseaudio - 2x  audio devices for GPL and TS just not lockable...

PS

I just saw that the server at iGOR with Kyalami is GPLBrasil, yes the Brasilian server is also for this event

But if you join a server and get flashes every 3-5 seconds be aware you have wrong fps set!

and if you get a timeout - control if you have 60fpsV2newmod set in GEM+

Yes, I am using linux for racing. I did not yet try to run teamspeak. I will have to figure out if it works.

pulseaudio sets the devices "dynamically" and not allways as I intend  ::)

An extra ASUS pci-e sound card did the job, but I am still experimenting...

PS
I have speakers via HDMI for race sound and a headset for TS

Post by: Cookie on July 01, 2020, 12:26:19 PM +0100
Yes of course,
the problem starts when you start GPL and pulseaudio has to activate the sound of GPL + TS

I will join TS server in 5 min

Was I assigned by the administrators as a "works" driver or did I just check the wrong box when I registered for the Spring season?  :)

You ticked the right box Pepe. The works/privateer split is simply to add a bit of an incentive for the middle order drivers. A 50/50 split is fairest. We have just about made it into the top half. Good luck I'll be trying my best to get ahead of you but I may struggle you have improved a lot recently.

Hi all,

It's been a long time ago now. About 10 years that I did not race with GPL. I week. It was great fun!. If I'm allowed to join tonight I will race with you again in any chassis that is assigned to me.

Say you maybe tonight  :)

Hoping to join a few races again (slowly). Just rebuilt my PC for the umpteenth time and GPL works fine but I literally cannot remember the various components to get back online. iGor gives me an error so I may not be back on track for a while. Nice to be back though.

Hi MagicArsouille,

I got this message (not qualified for the race) when I forgot to activate 60fpsv2newmod in gem+ before switching to igor. As soon as I activated the 60fpsv2newmod I was able to join the server.

The lap count for the last race (Monza 10K) needs to be changed. The best ever time in practice for this track is that of Ivan Tierno at 2:15.8.  Twenty-nine laps at that speed would take almost 66 minutes. Twenty laps for our sprint race is more realistic.  :)

Hoping to join a race or two while waiting for the next Assetto Corsa season. Just tried Solitude with the Honda, and best I got after around 15 laps was 3:49. Also not feeling safe at all braking for that turn after the backstraight, probably where my race will end :). Just posting it as a reference to my current speed.

Hi guys,

I am hoping to drop into some GPL races very soon.  I have managed to get GPL working with my multi-axis wheel/pedal set.

Glad to see the UKGPL League is still going stronger over 20 years after it started :)

Hi Ben

Welcome back, you will have noticed a lot of changes since you last raced with us in Season 16. There are more cars, tracks and better graphics (60fps) but it is still the same game. As you have noticed, we still run the original 67F1s in which you won the Clubmans championship in Season 14.

There will be a practice server up on iGOR over the weekend. Please have a go at connecting to test your rig (you will need the 60fps patch). It will be great to see you back on the track.

Regards

Phil

Hi Phil/Guys,

I am getting on track a little.  Is it too late to register this season?  If so, would there be a passowrd for the server given to registered drivers?

Also was there once a UKGPL channel on Vroc/Igor ? and was that passworrded, I forget :)

I have the 60fps patch installed okay.

cheers

Hi Ben, good to you back and welcome home!
It's down to the series mod to look after registration unless Phil or Axel take pity on you.

There is no longer a password on the chat room but sadly hardly anyone uses it these days.  The banter isn't what it used to be.   :(

Good luck with the racing.  55mod is the real challenge!   ;D

Is it too late to register this season?
I'm expecting to have a pretty full grid for the race tomorrow but there is no harm registering (use the voting buttons above) and if there is space you should be OK to race (David Rainier is the Divisional Moderator so it is his decision - hopefully David will PM you or post something on this thread). You were always one of the fairest and most gentlemanly drivers so I have no worries about your driving etiquette. I still remember taking you out on the straight at Rouen (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4248#event1164), not my best race and I felt guilty for ages afterwards. In fact that race made me work hard to improve my driving standards :o you were an inspiration for that  ;)

You'd have 15 tokens available (5 for a mid season start and 10 for a race start) so the fastest car you could legally take is the Ferrari. Your favoured Cooper will be a bit slow for Monza 10K. All I would say is please wait for David to give you the OK and then as a reserve please wait until 9pm before joining the race server to give the regulars enough time to join. The privateers championship is decided but the main championship is still wide open so I wouldn't want any of the contenders not to be able to join the server because it was full.

Ben,

It's OK for me, just use the voting button (you will see the password at the top of race topic, a few hours before the start of the race)  .

If I am not mistaken you should be Privateers so one reset allowed and followed by a stop and go in the pits.

Question : what is your racing name ?

I would love to race tonight, preferrably in the Sprint series, but if the grid is full, I could also imagine racing in the Grand Prix series... What do we do?
Also, I don't remember signing up, yet I am listed as an entrant already? No problem with that, but I just don't see a registration in my history of posts. :D

If you can vote at the top of this topic, it means you are not registered.
If you can't, it means you're already registered for this serie.

Hi Lasse

You had voting in the Grand Prix registration thread. I have processed your application so you should be able to see the password for the Grand Prix race.

You had  also voted in the Sprint registration and someone had already processed your application so you should be able to see the Sprint race password too.

I suggest you enter the Grand Prix race (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=22892#event10131) tonight, there will probably be more space on the grid. But please post a request to EvilClive, the Divisional Moderator to make sure it is OK for you to race in the Grand Prix. It is EvilClive's decision. The championship is finely poised so he might not want any new drivers joining at this stage in case it upsets the championship.
