Title: UKGPL Season 37 (2020) - East London - Jun 23
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on June 19, 2020, 11:51:46 PM +0100
Season 37 Fun Race –  East London

Something else new to try out. This will be first GPL event to use the 1968 on-line mod. The season where traditional racing colours were replaced by cigarette packets & the teams started screwing odd bits of metal to their cars to generate more downforce. GP racing would never be the same again.

If you don’t haver this fantastic new mod, go to this site http://68f1.gplworld.de/downloads.htm

Save Download 1 & Download 3 - you will need them both. Follow the installation instructions & select the 68 car sets in GEM.

As this is a fun race there is a free choice of car. There are plenty to chose from but be aware some have wings and some don’t. I’ve selected a track that regular GPL drivers will be familiar with.

Server = UKGPL 4
IP = 77.102.28.179
Race date = Tuesday 23 June 2020
Time = starts no later than 21.00 UK time
Track = East London (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/tracks/EastLondon/eastlndn_GPL.zip)
Race length = 30 Laps
Variant = 1968 On-line version
60fps patch used 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Advanced
Qualifying time = 30 minutes minimum.
Replay = here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/11N6sqer7jhwuuG_Aynf7HK9_fj4eDDkO/view?usp=sharing)

Races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use the 60 fps patch.
It’s a fun race – try out Teamspeak.
Unlimited resets with no stop & go are permitted.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

As the 1968 cars are not yet in the SROU database here are the results:

My installation 68-1 don't work,there is the message could not load the track.
Happen with the original 68-1 and also with the online 68-1.What is wrong?
The 68-2 work well.There are also,in the folder track;Brands68 and Nurburg68.How they should be used

Fran

Try changing your 68season.ini file for this:

Code:
[Season]
name=68SEASON
Year=1968
numEvents=1

[Event1]
name=East London Grand Prix
shortname=East London
trackShortName=East London
trackDirectory=eastlndn
flag=saflg
month=1
day=1
numberOfLaps=85
startingGrid=4

Assuming you have East London in your tracks folder you should be able to drive East London with the off-line 68 cars (select 68SEASON in GEM).

If you get that working, my server is up on iGOR so you can try to join an on-line race.

Axel  normally, when there is this message,there is something wrong in the cars folder.At the moment i have only the 68-1 installed without the online.
This morning i have installed the online overwriting any file of the 68-1(when required) and i have seen the problem.After i have deleted the car and mod folder and installed the 68-1 again(not online).

Yes, I have done the same.  :thumbup2:

I'm pleased you've got the 68mod to work  :clap:

Sorry about the stopping and starting of the server. I'd set the wrong number of laps. It is OK now.

I was in difficulty with this car, terrible setup, impossible to drive "easy", something understeer and something over.., but specially in the braking zone where I can't to be too hard because the rear slip suddenly
Tried only McLaren other cars I don't know

IMO this problem is caused by the tyres, when you get ~80° they suddenly get too much grip. (snappy!)

This Mod is based on the 66mod so the tyres are based on this tyre specs - optimum grip -> 26PSI F+R at 100° warm..
Same tyres as the CA66 including the "GPL Tire Pressure Bug Fix Patch"

I had all the time temps ~52°-60°C and avoided to get higer temps, so I had the handling that I could savely drive  ::)

This is my view and where my prib has the tire infos -> centered!

My temps was like your circa, between 54/62max, I ran with pribdula for this reason because I can't to warm the tires
Maybe this is the cause, this was my first race with this mod and sure I don't know it, other test are required for the future races!  :laugh:

The '68 mod will take some learning. The car handling did feel a little different to other mods but I probably just need to find a better set up. Like some other drivers I did notice a tendency to lose the back end.

Nevertheless I was achieving some quite reasonable times in the Lotus 49. Due to early casualties I was running in 3rd at one point.

We'll try & slot in another fun race before Season 37 gets underway.

I was hoping that the 68s are like the F2, in so far as the default setup is good enough - but from chat last night & here;  maybe that is not the case?  :)

I initially found the back-end to get lost under braking,  but less so if I just let the revs get a little lower before changing down.

Does that mean that the "GPL Tire Pressure Bug Fix Patch" is not just for sports cars, or is that something for general deployment?

I also inherited a good spot at one point due to misfortunes elsewhere,  but (un)gracefully gave them all back again.

Apologies Billy, at one point (you probably know the one) I came rushing back from the wilderness into what had looked to be a massive gap on Pribluda,  but just before the impact it dawned on me that you were right there too  (I thought was mainly McLarens that attracted each other)

I also found that my look left/right buttons were not working in the race (had been fine in practice) & had similar at Spa on Sunday.
Worked fine again when I tested afterwards.  Something else for me to look at/check next time.

Anyway, good event.  Would certainly be interested for another 1968 gathering.

Cheers,
Dave.

"GPL Tire Pressure Bug Fix Patch"

There is a tiny mathematical bug in the original gpl.exe,
that bug makes a little difference in tire grip -> the higher pressure is needed, the bigger the difference .
(At 24 PSI the difference is near nothing - but GT67 needs 32 PSI )

Wich mods do have this bug?
-> 67 - 65 - 66 - 69X - 67F2 - GT67 - CanAm71

This Mods have the fix included:
66CanAm - 55 - 67SC - 68E - 67X

When does it make sense to use the patch?

The patch lowers the top speed, because of more rolling resistance of the tires!
The patch heats up the tires more equal over the surface so they behave better in sliding.
So use it at Clermont - but don't use it at Monza 10k

Wich mods gain most by using it?
GT67 + 66 -> GT at Targa but never at LeMans! (GT is the obsolete old mod! SC67 is the new with fixed tires!)

For 67F1+65+69X you must test yourself, it is said the times are the same with or without patch.

Quote
My opinion about the 68E (+67x +CA66) tires:

These tires get suddenly too much grip when getting near their "optimum" temperature, so I tried to keep them lower and succeeded.

The new SC67 + 55s have IMO way better behaving tires, I wonder why nobody ever complained about 55s tires.... ;D

Took your advice and succeeded. I have a stable car on the brakes now. Fantastic! A really great mod.
But doesn't it use his own track.ini ?

Own track.ini's are only made when a mod makes own optical or physical changes at the track.
But they are called track55.ini - e.g. Monza10k for 55s have haybales in Para :o  ( If you don't like them, just kill this ini...)

Thanks for your quick response, but I'm not sure... Normally I have a track.ini for every track and mod. For example brands67: track65.ini; track66.ini; track68.ini; track69.ini and trackSC.ini. But Monza67 is missing the track68.ini?

Title: Re: UKGPL Season 37 (2020) - East London - Jun 23
Post by: Cookie on June 26, 2020, 05:44:01 PM +0100
At some tracks there are multiple season files like Mexico or Kyalami, but other tracks have only one track.ini for all mods.

Ah - and be carefull with the GEM+ checkbox "disable AI limpback to pits"
whenever you check it it builds a new trackxx.ini if there is none by the track maker, and this .ini contains only one line!!

This can make lots of troubles!!!!

Yes,
rename a track.ini to track68.ini and change the pitstalls for slot 0vs19 to the end of the row and you see if it works ;)

Yes it will be but we've got to update the website importer to recognise the 68 cars.
