My first multiplayer simrace was fun, but I DNF'd after running out of fuel.

Must check tank before next race.

Thanks all.

Another race, another apology to make

This time to Geoff, kept my foot in it out of Schlossgold when I should have made sure there was room to the back of Geoff's car, especially when I was trying to play the long game and didn't really have the pace to challenge. Apologies as I know that would have turned into a win.

Definitely think I need to chill for the race on Sunday after almost taking Markus out in TC Classics, taking Frex out on Formula Rookies and taking Geoff out tonight.

On plus side, welcome to Alix and Peter, was good to see a strong turnout!

Welcome to Alix and Peter Cox
I can't find Peter Cox or petercox in the list of registered drivers, so I have had to add you as "unknown" for the moment.

Great race, not enjoyed a Thursday so much for ages.  ;D
Great chase with Stephen and Birger until I was too eager on the throttle and tapped Birger into a spin
waited of course but it spoiled our 3 way battle  :-[

LOL Alix. good graphic

Welkom to Alex and Peter Cox

My experience was a liitle bit strange when i joined practice. Apparently i trained 220km from the race track @Salzburgring   ::) . So after a short trip today from salzburg to the Red Bull Ring in my Mercedes on the A10  :P i joined for a 30min practice session and used the default setup.

At the start Stephen had a bad start and i went directly 3 wide with the row in front of me, into T1 cathed Stephen and Martin. again good exit and went on the inside in T2 to catch Roger. Then pushed to follow the first group with Pete on the back, but i think i pushed a little too hard on the softs.

Luckily the first laps Stephen and Martin where in a fight so i could take 4/6sec. Slowly the two behind me chatched me and Stephen could easily overtake me after 1 round Stephen made a little mistake in T1, so i was at the bumper of Stephen in to T2. Stephen defended the inside so i went to the outside to try a cutback. In the exit when i went early on the throttle at the inside of T2 for the cutback, i felt my rear to go sideways and made a 180degr. Marvin had a good normal turn and i think he expected me to remain on the outside. (i could remain in the middle of the track but i didn't expected Martin so close. 200mtr before T2 i checked my mirror and you where well behind i thought).

I didn't expected you waited for me (had a little problem turning again the right way). I thought you would continued to fight with Stephen.

 thx for the fairplay, but now yr race was also ruined and mistakes can happen (great FAIRPLAY  :notworthy: ) -. I think you also waited to attack me again, until i had clean tires.

grts, and thx for the race

Welcome to the new guys, nice to see the size of the grids growing slowly :)

Thought my race was going to be quite boring with the qual gap of half a second either side of me but I managed to keep the tail end of the leaders in sight and lucked in to 5th for a while when I came across the stranded Geoff but he caught me and got back passed quite easily. With people fuel saving/running out I lucked in to 2 positions in the last couple of laps. My tyres weren't far off Alix's but it's was my rear tyres that were suffering worse.

No problem Glenn, these cars accelerate quite quick & it's easy to get caught out, I nearly did the same to Alix later in the race. Thanks for waiting at the end. :thumbup1:

That was a fun race from beginning to end. Chased Frex with Glenn close behind until my spin, then had great fun chasing down Pete & Alix who I managed to overtake at the same place on successive laps. Was catching Markus at the end but he was just too far ahead so I was happy with 4th until Glenn waited & Frex presumably ran out of fuel so lucked into 2nd at the end.

Grats to Markus & Glenn   , bad luck Frex :(.

Interested to know how the new guys, Glenn, Birger, Alix & Peter got to hear about us. With our numbers currently rising, it would be great if a few of our Italian friends returned along with a few other old faces (John, Tudor, Mark etc), we could be pushing 20 drivers!

I heard about SimRacing.org.uk just by searching. But specifically I've been looking for some kind of managed multiplayer where the emphasis is on racing as-if-it-were-real-life, so proper penalties for excessive/ premeditated cutting, intentional damage to others, "unsafe" driving. Also, though I don't mind being slow (for now  ;) - you can see the laptimes), I didn't want to be a roadblock for others, so again a "mature" environment is desirable.

I've only just started Simracing again (after a gap of about 20 years) so I'm using a higher (but not highest) end laptop (but still, no graphics card - I'm relying on Intel CPU only), a 40" TV (which I also use as 2nd monitor for work), an X-rocker folding chair which I've had to adapt (not in a sophisticated way) for my frame and a Thrustmaster TX458 wheel/ pedal set. My laptop limits me to specific games, I've currently got RRE, PC2 and GTL. RRE is my current favourite as it feels the most realistic. I looked in the multiplayer servers on RRE, tried a couple but got rear ended badly fairly early on. Maybe it was my fault, I don't know. But that set me off looking for organised leagues/ password protected servers/ managed race series that had good ping from my location and (to start with) were UK based.

SROU was the first place I came across where I felt comfortable ("least nervous") about joining an online race. Luckily, RedBullRing is one of the tracks I've practiced in RR3, but hadn't tried the 95 c-Klasse until yesterday. I decided to stick with the default setup.

Still, look at the laptimes  :-[. I'm a country mile off the pack so first I'm searching the web for videos showing brake/ turn points, gear selections. I'm looking for videos on RedBullRing (for reference against my own experience) and Mantorp (which I think is the next SROU race open to me and again it's to help practice so I'm less of an obstacle for others  :) ). After that, if time allows I'll get into setups.

Specific q about last nights race - should I have checked the fuel status before the race OR should I have fuel-saved during the race OR both/ other?

@Birger It's in our rules (if you can find them) that if you knock someone off, you either wait for them to
get going and retake their place, or you take a voluntary stop and go. Otherwise an incident report would be
appropriate. We don't get many reports in these series, because our racers usually behave themselves  ::)

@Peter: You weren't that far off my pace, which suits me just fine  ;D
Have you looked at our Weds event for GTL (and occasional Monday series) Tony does a superb job with those
and uses a lot of cool mods.

For anyone wondering what our rules are: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.0 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.0)
Basically don't be an idiot, as Peter says treat it like real racing.

For fuel, see what a representative lap time is, and work out how many laps fuel you will need. You need to drive a couple of laps
for it to work out how many litres per lap you need, last night (and many of our events are 30 mins) you would need something like
~22 laps worth. For the Formula J we do 2x 20 min races with a reverse grid.

Ok, thanks. Just in case, I attended (and lapped throughout) practice and qually. My take is that at the point we got the RRE "race is about to start" admin screen I should've gone into the Setup(?) options where I would've been presented with the current fuel load and I could have adjusted that, as you say, based on a couple of quick calcs.

I can't remember how long there was between end of qually and race start (it was all a bit of a blur  :) ), am hoping it's more time than my remaining brain cells need  ;D

Does this forum have a mobile app that renders well (naked Android browser makes these forums difficult to navigate)?

Damn, ran out of fuel again, this time in sight of the finish line.. Last week was because server problems and constant game crashes stopped me getting on to do some practice and setup; this week I don't have that excuse, just badly prepared. Also kept forgetting where to brake at T2.. Some fun was had though, until Geoff and Glenn had their incident.

Congrats Markus, Geoff and Glenn, and welcome to the new chaps.

Not a good idea to still be on track just before qual ends. I usually qual with race fuel anyway
but if you qual with low fuel, either get back to the pits with a minute or so to spare, or go to setup
when it takes you to the race session, you have a minute? to set your fuel before the race start
race doesn't start untill either the countdown times out, or, everyone is on the grid.

I wasn't intentionally running light on fuel in qually, definitely not that good yet  :)

[Note to self: refuel the car before joining the grid]

What made it all the more frustrating for me was that I'd decided I didn't want to try and pass at that stage of the race. After the first three to four laps you seemed to kick it up another gear and go after Frex. I didn't have any more pace at that point to challenge so wanted to sit in the slipstream and look after my tyres (which I actually managed for a change) as I had plenty of fuel to try and challenge late in the race.

After catching the back of your car and putting you into a spin I ended up just over three seconds behind Frex, out of the slipstream and unable to catch.

Interested to know how the new guys, Glenn, Birger, Alix & Peter got to hear about us. With our numbers currently rising, it would be great if a few of our Italian friends returned along with a few other old faces (John, Tudor, Mark etc), we could be pushing 20 drivers!

I'd been playing RaceRoom single player for nearly a year with my laptop on my knee and an Xbox One controller. When the RaceRoom British Touring Car eSports series came about earlier in the year I decided to buy a Thrustmaster TMX wheel and pedals and give it a go.

After really enjoying that series I started looking through the Sector3 forums leagues and communities section. I discounted a few for varying reasons (race timings, formats, fully booked series etc.) and came across Geoff's post for the C-Class DTM series starting at Bilster Berg. I decided to register and try it and have never looked back since.

Started simRacing during the lockdown. Because it was free i went for RRE, off course racing with the keyboard  ;D after 1 week joystick and after 1 month bought second handed a T300 with F1 add-on wheel and T3PA pedals. (still playing on my laptop)

Off course after playing multiplayer with all acidents searched for a league. Subscribed me to SROUK and a dutch one, you responded first so i was already hooked on this forum. (Just google search, i'm sometimes searching on the Sector 3 forums, but didn't found SROUK posts).

Also the postive respons and tips at my first race in the FRJ at Monza junior, was a reason to stay.

I know

But indeed was little bit sad, that the fight with our three was ruined already. I would understand if you continued to fight with Stephen and eventually after the race receveived a penalty (i wouldn't submit an incident report, because i know you are a fair driver).

Also a little bit my mistake, if i checked the radar i would have known that you where on the inside. I checked the replay and i could shift to the middle of the road so Stephen had room on the outside and you on the inside. But as already stated i checked my mirrors 200mtr before the turn and i thought you wouldn't be a factor.

I also try to give people room, I would rather be passed than cause an incident the spoils the fun
But that was entirely my fault. Stuff happens. no worries.

Only the names where then Leclerc = Stephen, Sainz = myself, Vettel = Martin. Only i spinned instead of Martin  ;D

Honestly, I don`t like the Mercedes, and I don`t like this track. So I didn`t practice too much and my laptimes were far away from Frex and Geoff. The quali was ok and in the race I was 4th after the first laps when I had to lift slightly not to hit Glenn. This brought Alix in the situation to overtake me. After a few laps I saw Geoff in the gravel, and was 4 th. So I thought a podium would be in reach and so became quicker. I finally overtook Alix and was in P3. Geoff came from behind quickly as he was way faster than me. Then in the final lap I saw Frex cruising slowly and then Glenn. At first I thought both were running out of fuel. It was a completely unexpected and crazy win for me.
Grats to Geoff (you would have deserved the win) and Glenn (this is gentleman racing  :thumbup1:) Bad luck Frex, you were so fast, far beyond my abilities.

And it was very great to see many new faces, welcome guys!!

As a web hud I use Otterhud, for me it is better than the standard hud. For example it calculates the fuel you need by the length of the session, the laptime and the consumption. https://forum.sector3studios.com/index.php?threads/otterhud-a-custom-webhud-with-additional-features.13152/

Cu next thursday in China  ;D

Using the same hud, never had problems to correctly fuel the car. Also the radar is very handy.
