Post by: Cookie on June 26, 2020, 03:06:13 PM +0100
Season 37 Fun Race – New Monza67 - Jun 28

Something else new to try out. New Monza67

This will be our second UKGPL event to use the 1968 on-line mod.
The season where traditional racing colours were replaced by cigarette packets & the teams started screwing odd bits of metal to their cars to generate more downforce.
GP racing would never be the same again.

If you don’t have this fantastic new mod, go to this site http://68f1.gplworld.de/downloads.htm

As this is a fun race there is a free choice of car. Please NO Cosworth DFV engine for Works driver
There are plenty to chose from but be aware some have wings and some don’t.

Race List =  IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = look at iGOR
Race date = 28-06-2020
GPL mod = 68E
60fps patch used = 60fpsV2newmod
Track = Monza67 (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13537&#entry149076)
Qualification = 20:45  UK time -> 30min
Race = race starts at ~21:15 UK time
Race length = ~50+ min -> 36 laps
Damage Model   = Int Long
Replay = here (https://www.sendspace.com/file/zoh1y8)

It’s a fun race – try out UKGPL Teamspeak Server (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=19861).

Unlimited resets with no stop & go are permitted.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

GLA + FUN

The new track name is Monza67 - to make a difference to Monza of papyrus ;)

We drive the 68e Mod on the track wich had this layout from 1955 to 1971

Look at Dave's comment in the Track announcement: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=20601.msg382022#new

Got the wonderful new 67 track installed , did a dozen laps in the 67 Lotus .

Next I download  the 68 mod , unzip to "newfile " , following the instructions I copy paste these to GPL .

Run GPL

No 68 Mod No 68 Cars No 68 Tracks ???

What did I do wrong ? do I need to do something with GEM to get the mod to run ?

You need to go into GEM and load the 68 car sets. I can't find a user guide with screenshots which would be a big help. Trying to explain how to do it from my mobile is likely to cause confusion because I'll get it wrong.

Bernie,

I think this is about it:

Create a new '68' driver in GPL similar as for other mods & close it down.

As Phil mentions, in GEM, Carsets -> add the 68GPL-EARLY to the active list.
Then select the new 68 driver & the 68 carset from both dropdowns.

In the available GEM options, select 60fpsv2newmod  (& any other desired options)
Quit GEM to have it build the resulting gple68.exe

If you have nvidia profiles for your various GPL executables, also add similar for gple68.exe

EDIT:
When I initially did this, GEM seemed to be screwed relating to my 65 mod for some reason;  just needed to run the 65 install again.
I think Phil also had some issues with 55 afterwards & had to install that again (although may not have been related/just coincidence?).
However,  not aware of issues elsewhere.

Anyway, after you have 68 working - it may be as well to test other mods to be sure :)

Cheers,
Dave.

Very nice new Monza track.
Nice to see the "Ingegnere" Enzo Ferrari (I know he didn't like to be call "Commendatore") and some well known drivers in the pits.

I hope the race will be OK with the fps.

Nothing in GEM 68 car related , no tracks , no pics, no cars . I have the three files in the GPL directory . should I have unzipped them to GPL rather than unzip to a file first and then copied to GPL ?

Yes I realised what I had in GPL was the 3 folders containing the files , I copied the files out of 68 mod folder into gpl and got a result but do need to do the same with the other two ?

Extract the files from Download 2 (from http://68f1.gplworld.de/downloads.htm (http://68f1.gplworld.de/downloads.htm))

Then copy the jpeg files into your GEM pictures folder which if you use the default installation is here:

C:\GPLSecrets\GEM+\Pictures

Thanks for the help Phil , all seems good now , bit annoyed it doesn't say anything about that in the instructions . a bit more info would have saved me hours of head scratching  and running around in circles .

Hopefully now I can drive around in circles instead  ;D

Yes a few more screenshots/guidelines on the web site would have helped but given all the work the developers have put into it I'm not surprised their instructions in the final bits are quite concise.

I've been quite busy recently but if I get a bit of spare time (maybe in the Summer break in August) I'll update the UKGPL website with a few "HowTo" guides.

Axel , it seems OK to me , did run OK previous but the car set was wrong , now I have the full choice of 68 cars I can't decide which one to run with  ::)

Lotus with wings more like 69 mod ?

Sorry Axel, a victim of your own success. It was a well attended race, a bit manic at times, a lot of incidents. But I guess everyone is getting used to the new mod. I find the tyres evolve though the race and the slipstream is very strong (not surprising given the physics are based on the 66mod).

Grats to the finishers. Apologies to Doni who I think got tangled up in my wreckage when I got a bit too confident through Ascari. Up to that point it was an exciting race.

More praccy needed before the league race. I wouldn't have wanted to moderate this one  ;)

Thanks all,  that was very entertaining (apologies Axel / Bastian!).

I have very recently stumbled across/downloaded Olaf's Replay Director option for GEM & watched most of the replay.  Lots of action!

Good to see a full grid & quite the mix of cars; with the Honda & Matra in-fighting.

Thanks Axel & sorry to hear you missed out like that (especially from your own hosted race).

Otherwise, I'd call that event a success!

It will take a little longer to tame this car set but I am getting to like them.

Axel should have taken my place on the grid for this race. He had organised it and attracted a full grid of 19 cars, but when he left the server to turn on Teamspeak his place was filled.
If I had known that my race was going to be screwed by lack of practice with these cars and, more importantly, a FPS that refused to get above 30 and was sometimes as low as 12!! I wouldf have quit!! At times it was almost impossible to predict where the car was, or was about to be??? Eventually I had to admit defeat and walk back to the pits  :-\ Apologies to those unfortunate souls who found themselves behind a Honda that did not know where it was going at times!!

I have tried various ideas to force my PC to run at 60 fps, but there is something between IGOR and the server that blocks me. Joining via the IP address is more reliable for me and I should have used that method last night.

I thought that was standard Honda behaviour?

My race went sour at the start when my FR dropped off the scale. My total concentration ( what little i have these days ) was focused on avoiding the cars around me as I played out what looked like a 1920's movie only in colour .
I didn't see the Armco until it was too late  ::)  After that I was playing the catch up game but Prib wasn;t helping , showing false data,  so never really knew who was in front or who behind ,
I slowed to let at least 2 cars through thinking they were leaders instead of the same lap as me .

I feel a P.C. upgrade is on the cards for these high res locations , fr problems with Spa & Brands HR versions are 2 others that come to mind  escp. with full grids .

Firstly, apologies to the Matra that I ran into the back of on the starting grid. I braked as soon as I realised the car in front had a very slow start but I couldn't prevent the collision.
I only realised that it was 68's at Monza at 8.40 & qualifying started at 8.45. What I didn't have time to fine tune the wing setting & gearing to maximise speed at Monza, especially with the draft.
It will take a little longer to tame this car set but I am getting to like them.
Billy it was my fault. I had some fps drop with a full grid so I shut down Pribluda su spare some fps and when I engaged first I wasn't aware that it didn't, so when the flag dropped I revevd and released the clutch but nothing happened and passed a couple of seconds to realize to be still in neutral. Luckily for me Phil did a great work to stop right behind me, but cars ahead behind had less luck and many of them crashed trying to avoid me and Phil locked down. Sorry all.
After we finally started had to avoid Bernie's Lotus relict crossing the track on his roof  :o but alll went well till Para when the leaders pack went to play in the sand, and so on the following two laps  ??? ::) so at the end of the end of third lap I was in third position with a good gap from the following cars and a nice draft by the car ahead. Soon after David R catched me and passed, my car was one of the slower cars on the straight without draft, but I had set 5th to stay in the draft without overreving so begun a long battle with David for 4th position in all the sector of the track. We did many times Para side by side without touch each other, almost every lap we passed each other on the s/f straight or Lesmo1 till I asked too much to my Cooper passing him at Grande at 5 laps to go, I touched the rail and lost it loosing some position, soon after had an off at Para defending my position ao I finished only 10th, not the deserved one.  :(
Anyway a great race, only I was shocked by too many Para's crashes by leaders... ::)

Fulvio,
It was a similar story at East London with many cars falling off the track in the first few laps. Perhaps it wasn't so easy to find the brake point in Para with the new track but in my opinion the default set ups are more unstable on cold tyres than with other mods.

Do you know your PC specs  there matey , cpu? mb ? gpu ? ram etc etc . I'm thinking either build one up from bits or buy a complete new puter .

Not really, just parted with a rather large wedge of cash in PC world.

Todays problem is  W10...

It eats 75% of a PC's ressources,
if you do not turn off all the 25 little helpers that are waiting for your cellphone or projector or music downloader or whatever,
for playing GPL only little power is left.

I stripped down a W10 to the essentials and it cost me a full days work.
Now it's as rank as a XP or W7, but you never know, if it still works as before
when they decide to "UPDATE" everything with their banana software....
Worse
If you do not prevent them to "update" your NVidia or AMD GPU driver they automatically remove the recent and install a horrible old beta driver...

A new Linux mint 20 on a little office PC - i3 CPU + a low end GPU and an empty SSD
I install the complete OS fully updated + Firefox + Office + NVidia driver + wine + GPL with GEM  -  running GPL Monza within 35 minutes!
Here the proof with a NVidia GT 1030 passive GPU -> http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13244&st=20#entry148927

DL the little video live recorded while keyboard driving with 19 AI in Monza!

Good reading Axel , I was sure win10 was a resource grabber in spite of them saying it was better than win7 , so I did the swap  :-\

Is it possible to run Linux on the same PC as Win 7 or 10  with boot options for the OS of choice ?

Edit to add
Yes it looks easily doable

Look into the link to srmz,
I  have a PC with W10 and manjaro, just on the same single 500GB  SSD!

ATM I prefer mint 20 but no problem too.

You have to dl the iso - write it on an USB-stick and boot it - the install menu on the desktop  does the job perfect

now on the manjaro OS

Linux is for us GPL user only good with an NVidia GPU, that's perfect,
but AMD GPU has a good driver but no openGL tweaking GUI so useless for us!

If I start W10 I can't see any Linux partition but Linux can see and use all W10 partitions ;)

just quick and dirty cellphone snapshot...

to the W10 user with GPL fps problems...

Use O&O shutup10 https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 and allow only the absolute necessary ;)

CCleaner helps to uninstall all stupid gimmicks, look what is left...

Rightclick on the PC-symbol lets you switch off the desastrous W10 update of the GPU driver ;)
