Any time where you don't crash into the scenary is good.  :-*
Very tempted to reduce the damage multiplier for this one as it's a bit far back to the pits. But then it might make people more careful!

At least here we don't need two laps to warm the tyres... Mine (rears) are warm after 4 turns.  ;D
Great power, awesome. Anyone who will finish the race will be a winner.  :)

The version 1.0 file comes with a RACEGROVE.tga file that seems to sit in the locations folder  :-\ Does anyone know what we are meant to do with it? Seems to run here without it at all but...................

According to the official rFactor Nord. website (http://www.rf-nordschleife.de/) it says...

I included a new smoother racegroove texture (credits to JimbO)
to remove just delete "racegroove.tga" from Locations folder

Am liking the sound of these Rf mods more and more. Are these races reasonably well attented?  Think i am going to have a bit of a steep learning curve to get upto speed in time for a race next week though  :-\...especially with these fast beasts.
Going to try the demo and Gordini mod out at the weekend hopefully and if suitably impressed will buy the full monte and see if i can get some praccy in before the weds race.

Trying to convince the missus i need to race tuesday, weds and thursday will be a bigger challenge  :o

I was thinking that by keeping saturday night free that this was surely ample for the poor girl :-\ anyway catch you Sunday, monday(praccy),tuesday, wednesday, thursday and I'll prolly just think about it friday and saturday, ohh suit you sir :D

2 munutes 30 seconds before posting a bump. Must be a record. :P

Try editing the F11979.cch file (or whatever it's called) in your UserData/<your_username> profile directory to bump up the experience and money values.

You don't need to buy a car to use it in testing and I don't think you need to own it to use it online either.

I reckon the best rFactor league will be one that will feature different cars in each round.
Meganes one week, Armaroli the next and so on, will be a real test of driver skill then, and will also get to use the better mods rather than focus on just one.

Saying that am looking forward to tonights race, and guess there will be plenty of time for things to develop.

This event is going to be very hard. Haven't completed a lap yet where I wouldn't have killed the car, I've got invulnabrility on for now  :-\ That doesn't always help as I've got stuck in the scenery at least 3 times and not found a way out.

So 2 questions, are we going to reduce the damage multiplier (which I noticed was only 50% in last night's race) and can we enable car resets? If so how, cos I haven't spotted that yet.

Bit too hard this I fear for us substandard drivers.

Almost certain resets are offline only in all the ISI based games.

If you're having trouble with the cars, especially here at Nord. here's my current setup that seems a lot easier to drive to me than the default or ANY of the ones I've downloaded.

I've taken to shifting before the big boost near the top until the tyres are warmed up and then it's ok. Once the tyres are hot the power up to top revs seems controllable. You must be patient whilst warming the tyres and don't get too enthusiastic with the right foot. Once warm you'll find some of the understeer out of my setup dissapears too.

http://www.teamshark.org.uk/files/rfactor_cars/1979-SG-Nordschleife.svm

Hope you find it useful.

The challenge at Nord. is to complete the challenge, not to drive all out attack and speed cause it will be your undoing.

I only got stuck once and that was beached on a curb, not in the scenary.  8)

Oh and remember to lift off a lot when shifting, these cars take a while to get from one gear to another compared to all the modern day paddle shift pansy cars.

Ok, server has 1.0 installed and the 1.1 patch applied over that. I've not applied the 1.1 AIW patch as the race announcement states 1.1. And TBF I think the 1.11 update came out after Shark scheduled the event.

What 1.1 AIW patch? Don't see it on the rFactor Central page.
if there is one, that's for AI lines or something, so shouldn't matter right? Is there anything else in the AIW file?

I think the only updates to the original 1979 demo you actually need are physics and graphics updates.

And this is why after starting to like rFactor again I get so annoyed with it, having to look every day for new updates and spend ages f'ing around with it.  ::)

base car pack + sounds, Physics & graphics (arms/no arms ???)

Is there an install manager I can use with this, never have before because the car packs are normally self exe

installed the v1.0 track/ 1.1 update

That's what the server has, are you still getting track mis-matches or just the cars now?

base car pack + sounds, Physics & graphics (arms/no arms ???)

Server has base and physics, I have locally base/physics/sound and can connect ok. I assumed the arms/no arms is irrelevant as it makes no sense (to me) to have both installed  :-\ The lack of any instructions really hampers rF and these mods  >:(

Is there an install manager I can use with this, never have before because the car packs are normally self exe

All manually installed, it's a shame everyone can't adopt ModMan or something as it works well and helps manage these sorts of mess ups. I believe if you uninstall F1 1979 demo the wron way it uninstalls all of rF! Why create problems when there is a workable solution out there?

Title: Re: rFactor F1 1979 Demo Mod @ Nordschliefe - 20th September
Post by: OSiriS on September 20, 2006, 10:23:45 AM +0100
rF is starting to develop a similar problem to the one which bugged me most with GPL, mods needing multiple downloads instead of bundling everything into one archive. It's an issue with mod makers being disorganised or trying to save people downloading larger instalers for every new version rather than the sim itself being at fault.

Damn, wish I'd made notes now ;) I'll try and post something up a bit later about what I did, but it was essentially just unzip/unrar to the logical dir in the rfactor tree and saying yes when patches asked to overwrite files. I wonder if the order makes a difference? Shouldn't but who knows.

General question, has anyone other than Shark and myself successfully connected to the practice server?

Hope so.  :-\

When I install rFactor mods, I install them to a completely non-rFactor temp directory. Then I package them up using ModMan. Then I uninstall the installed mod from the temp directory using the add/remove programs type stuff. THen I install the mod in ModMan using the package I created by ModMan.

It's a huge pain in the arse and really puts me off rFactor, but this way I can uninstall/install mods much more cleanly and not worry about very poor installation code written by modders that are good at art but crap at programming.

The items listed in the original post is all you should need. I'd be tempted to wipe your rFactor Jam and install a fresh one, with the latest rFactor build and then install the mod cleanly. Yes horrible suggestion, but I wouldn't be suprised if it's your rFactor that is mismatching and not the mod? Can you connect to other games in the lobby? Both 1979 and 1979 ones?

I had no trouble conecting to the server just now, but unfortunately I won't be racing tonight. I have no time to learn this track with these cars, so would just end up pottering around at 100mph being a danger to anyone who came close, before knocking my wings off after half a lap. I look foward to seeing the replay though :)

If you can potter round at 100mph at Nurburgring then you'll win!  :P

Fortunately I know the track quite well from my GPL days, so it's more refamiliarisation that a complete re-learning exercise, although there are some changes from the 1967 version (I suspect inaccuracies in the GPL track itself).

Foolproof guide to installing Nordschleife:

1. Open Nordschleife1.0GR.rar. Drag and drop the contents into your rFactor\Gamedata\Locations folder.
2. Open Nordschleife_1.1_patch.rar. Drag and drop the contents into youe base rFactor folder, overwrite anything it asks you to.

There should be nothing more to it than that.

what is the base rFactor folder, the main one that everything else is in?

Yes, the folder that contains rfactor.exe itself.

I am using the right carpack aren't I? this one "F11979_Demo_MMG"

That's the first thing to install, I then added the physics patch f179demo_update.zip. This is unzipped to the rfactor base folder, e.g. c:\rfactor. This update appears to include the F11979D.rfm file ( this ends up in <base dir>\rfm ) and the mistached renult.hdv. You will find this in <base dir>\gamedata\vehicles\Season1979\Renault

You will probably want the sounds patch but you need to extract this into a temp dir as the archive contains an extra directory in the path :(

The other mods on the rfactorcentral page are for gfx features you may or maynot wish to install but shouldn't make any difference for tonight's race

The rar has everything inside a folder called F179demo_sound update_25.08.06 within that is Gamedata folder and then the various sub folders of new/updated files. If you simply un-rar the file to your game's route folder you will have the initial directory in there and thus all the files in the wrong place.

Defo a scary mod. Feel real and I'm so sure I could just make one lap with the no-damage ON.  ;D
Will show but I don't expect anything from me but a smash on the first lap. Just hope I'll smash alone.  :-\

Sorry, I should have been reading the thread more closely, it wasn't the track you had trouble with. The only 2 files you should need are F11979_Demo_MMG.zip or the original executable, and f179demo_update.zip. Install them as Picnic said above and there shouldn't be any problems. As far as I know the graphics and sound updates are optional and shouldn't cause mismatches whether or not they are used.

I really want to race here, but over the last month I have tried about 10-15 times just to cruise around in 2nd/3rd gear and still can't manage to put in a full timed lap before the car is destroyed.

Replay (http://ukrf.simracing.org.uk/F1%201979%20Demo%20-%20Tourist%20Nordschleife%2020092006.zip) file available, before I mess things up I'm getting guidence on importing the mixed data, i.e qual from race 1 or not.

This was really hard, I spun on the last lap and it really messed me up, took ages to get into the flow again. Didn't quite beat the 7 min barrier but with a bit more practice it would be possible. No way tho the times Jon was doing, very well done there  :D

What a load of B*ll*x! Practised all week end for this and was doing 7:08 as best time. Quali lap never seemed to register, I'd cross the line and the clock wouldnt start, dont know why. Then the race start was a complete balls up, ending with the pace car out on track. Everyone was happy for a restart which somehow put me on pole. No start light so I let the clock run down then waited.... thought best to go and got a jump start penalty, no worries, I'll stop at pit as we go past which seemed fair anyway as it allowed the original pole sitter guys back in front. Anyway, stopped in the box in pit, watched the clock run its time out, put the car in gear and moved off and was promptly DQ'd.

Oh well, never mind, at least I've rediscovered my RFactor, the mods are superb and great fun, will def be in for a few of these races.

This track is special - narrow, winding, long, terrible. Beautiful.  :thumbup1:

rFactor: would be beautiful also if we could sort out this terrible starts. Really, a full course yellow on Nordschleife, followed by a safety car in the 2nd lap => disaster.  :censored:

Second start was ok, lets quit this shity AI controlled formation laps.  :(
Great chase, Picnic, seems we were making mistakes at the same time, lol. Grats to Jon, Picnic and Radius for finishing the race.  8)

Great chase in the first race, Radius, was good while it lasted. Don't know if you can safely overtake on this track at all. Certainly not through the corners, on the great straight only.  :)

Would be better with more drivers, like 20.

TT

Qual from Race 1 and Results from Race 2  ;)

If you hover your mouse cursor over the qualifying positions you will see that rFactor provides actual strating positions too, good for edited and reversed grids. According to the data, the actual starting grid for race 2 was:

1. Mr Locutos
2. Mr JonM
3. Mr Picnic
4. Mr Shark
5. Mr Jamera
6. Mr TrueTom
7. Mr Radius

with Mr Steinmetz and Mr Paxton not starting. Does that seem right?

The positions look right, top 4 anyway. Think Martin S quit from the first race so probably not around for the second. Not sure about Colin P

This race was a one off. I don't want us to spend too long on a beta mod. When the final version comes out it can be revisited, as this mod could be quite popular and we'll definately do some "proper" tracks.
