Title: How the heck do you start the car? !
Post by: Mark J on September 18, 2006, 08:09:06 PM +0100
Embarassing as it is, i cannot get the F1600 started in the pit  :-[

I click the top button, then the next one down (engine start)...then nothing. Sometimes the green light comes on at bottom and on one occasion i heard the starter motor turn over, but nothing happens...how do i fire up the engine?

Help  :'(

OSiriS had a similar problem, dont know if he got going

is there fuel in the car?
is it in neutral?
how do you get to work every day? ;)

Yeah you're doing it right Mark  ???
You said in first post that light came on sometimes; if it stays on then the engine is started. If you're not hearing anything it may be a sound issue....

Check the green light first, does it stay on?

yeah light comes on and stays on but then nothing.

I have tried umpteen times now and nada  :(

my accelerator and brakes show up fine in controller menu. Auto clutch is on. I just get the starter motor sound then silence and no movement at all.

One other thing, shouldnt i be able to see the gear lever in cockpit?, it looks like its below screen edge line to me.

That means that the engine is running! Pop it in gear and see does it move.
You just cant hear it for some reason. If you've got an onboard sound card on the asus then this is the most likely cause.
Try this
http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=254533

its a similar mainboard to yours too and it looks like some issue with the asus drivers.

It works !  Think you were right about the asus onboard sound. I had already just swapped my old Audigy zs into the new rig as i thought it might improve some of the in car sounds in GTR2..nope...TVR still sounds like a milk float  >:(....then read your new post.

Not massively overwhelmed...but then it is only a 1600cc  ;D  Gear shifts seem really lazy for a single seater ???

going to give it some more laps.

Post by: OSiriS on September 18, 2006, 11:50:41 PM +0100
I did get it working in the end alright, after seeing everything pointing towards an easy start procedure I figured I must have had settings wrong. For some reason the engine volume was on zero, I could hear the starter just fine, but after that I only got silence. I had gotten the car started after all. Secondly I realised there were 2 different control settings for the gear shifters which explained why I never budged an inch. The lack of an LCD display made it difficult to do much more than totter around the track, but it seemed pretty good. At the moment though I want to focus on one sim while I learn to drive and find pace, and GTR2 is it. Bouncing between 3 different sims hasn't been doing my technique any favours. In a few months time, probably in the new year I may come back and buy NKpro as it appears to have potential.

Once you get rollling with them they are far less lazy. And how daft was it to put out NK demo without  LCD display  :wetfish: . If you have any enjoyment from demo, you'll love the full game.

Thanks for the constructive criticism TT  ::)

Yes not having a digi display to see your revs and gear selection or even fuel left is just plain daft. :(

Other minor annoyances like NKpro not creating a xp menu item or shortcut is odd too, leaving you thinking it hasnt installed properly.

Graphically it looked good, engine sound was a bit lame (but its a 1600cc so...) and i got more feedback from the track than i found in Rf.
I'm a hard man to please (sometimes) and cannot gain enough information from the very limited demo as to whether its worth buying (which i thought was the sole purpose of a demo ::) )
I'm going to have a tweak with the setups and see how much it affects the handling etc and see if it gives the right feedback to me personally.
Are the Nk races well supported and/or are there leagues in place using it for championships etc ?

There's going to be a new demo when/if *THE PATCH* tm ever gets released so if you are unsure I'd hold off until that appears (if ever).

There's virtually no pick-up races to be had but there's a couple of leagues running nKp pretty successfully.

There are a couple of leagues but GPC is by far the largest, here are a list of drivers http://www.gpchampionship.com/gpcos/teams-drivers.php?leagueid=5&menu=season . For next season there will be pq again, but 3 races instead of the awful fight to make top 15. They also do "pick-up" races during the week on their server and these are well attended, and the quality of racing there is top drawer.

BTW, do you guys know anything about the status of *THE PATCH*?

I can't bear to expose myself to the sewerage on RSC to find out....

No one knows currently. The dev team have once again vanished.

Jaap says it's being worked on, but then again he/they said that about the patch earlier in the year, and then we found out it *wasn't* being worked on all that time.

Clear as mud eh? You bet ;)

Thats not quite right Edam. The dev team haven't vanished and patch testing is ongoing as we speak.

Thanks for the league link SBG, 110 drivers is good support. 8)  What nights are the races generally held ?

Do the F2000 races feel like GP2 /A1 racing style events?

Mo, thanks i had got your mail and read it but not had chance yet to implement it. Will do tonight.

LOL I was afraid you were going to ask that Mark, race day is Saturday  :o. I appreciate thats not ideal for you youngsters but as I said they do organise excellent pick up races and the PQ sessions (Wed, Thurs, Fri) are as much fun as race. There is also the NKClub races which take place on Sunday, which unfortunately clashes with stuff here.

No comment Pops (we have been sworn to secrecy). But I stand by earlier statement, they are the facts as I know them.

And don't get the wrong impression, us NK fans are not desperate for fellow racers. We are, however, keen to drag you UKGTR gentlemen (I really don't have to tell you why) to the sim of our choice.

Thanks for clearing that up SBG, that's good to hear.

I'd love nKp to be my "second sim" (GTR2 is just too much of a complete package) so I still have my fingers firmly crossed.

Ok, perhaps 'vanished' was a poor choice of words, but perhaps "not keeping the public, or even their paying customers informed" would be better. Last thing officially heard was the BRD alliance, the new website, and information that the patch was being worked upon again after months of inactivity.

I don't want to turn this into an RSC-style bunfight, but I just wanted to say that the dev-team haven't exactly vanished, but they're not exactly keeping everyone 'in the loop' either.

:)

Spot on Edam. Unfortunately, its all been a public relations disaster. Of course we don't know the ins and out of it, but a little communication would have gone a long way :-\

I just wanted to convey my feeling that NK is far from being a dead duck right now, which is implied when we are told developing team has vanished.

I'm not that bothered that they vanished, half expected it tbh. I'm annoyed that I paid for something they called a subscription and have yet to have any subscription service. Subscriptions involve getting something regularly, which has not happened.

I'm still offering my subscription of nKPro to anyone that wants it. £15, that's about £10 off the standard price. I just don't have time for it and all the other games and something has to give and it's my least favorite so doesn't get played.

Sharky, is it transferable ?  ie wont it have a pc id / IP number or something assigned to the copy your purchased..or even only work on your email account ?

If it is transferable, i could well be interested.  8)

I don't believe it is IP / PC ID locked and it's activated by name and paycode, but I believe you can use different driver name still, as that is just activation details. There is an FAQ here  (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=250415)if you want to read first. I would say if you get it off me, if you try to activate it and it doesn't work, don't do it again, in case it uses all 3 activations. Contact their support or post here for help.

Yes I think when the patch does come out, if its unsuccessful and rubbish, a lot of people will still not care. If it's great, people will care and be asking to have thier licence renewed for free as they got so limited mileage out of it before, which is wierd.

I'm actually still glad I bought it as it was worth it to see a different way of looking at physics, I hope they sort it out. I think if the fields were good I'd def race (1600 or 1800 I don't like the others).

Oh crikey, just been saying on my team forum that i'll probably buy Rfactor to satisfy my craving for single seaters, then you lot steer me back towards Netkar  ;D ::)
To be honest i am not convinced by either based on the crud demos for both and what little decent movie footage i have seen (other than the 2 guy NK vid i mentioned earlier).

Looks like that guys license got snapped up anyway. (thanks for the link Shark).

I think i am going to wait for the newer patched version to get released and then see what the general view is. (Sorry Mo, the championship looks fantastic but alas i never get a free saturday night). :(
I'm entering my busiest time of year workwise so spare time is not good enough to learn/use all these sims unfortunately  :'(

Do yourself a favour Ken - wait until the demo for 1.0.3 is released. Supposedly in about 2 weeks. It *should* feature working AIM and multiplayer.

With all the problems at the moment, I wouldn't even bother installing 1.0.2.
