Yeah, I know - Just a bit of a bummer as I've got this nice shiny new toy and I can't play with it.

Yes, I'm aware there is such a thing as racing offline (and I'm not just talking about cocking up the corners :P) - and it's pretty good in GTR2.  It'll keep me going until GTR2 takes main stage on a Tuesday.

Hi Luke,

Welcome aboard!

On the day of the race, if you go to the multiplayer lobby in GTR2 just after the start time (8:15 in this case), you'll see the UKGTR server up, it's passworded and the password is at the top of this thread. That's all you need to do.

All the fun races are open to all members.

Cheers, Pops

We have some drivers from Portugal, so Spain shouldn't be a problem. Yes, we plan to run some GTR2 leagues fairly soon, after some test races.

1 turns on the virtual mirror. If you're using the cockpit view there is a graphics option somewhere to turn on the driver and wing mirrors.

Title: Re: GTR2 Fun Race at Donington GP 2004
Post by: popabawa on September 21, 2006, 04:21:53 PM +0100
The 360 is probably the best NGT if you are relatively inexperienced. It's fairly easy to drive and quick too.

I think you'll find there will be a few GT3-RSR's turning up. A fair number of us NGT drivers took the GT3-RS in season 2 and I'm guessing we're keen to see what the extra 'R' can offer us!  ;D (I know I am).

It felt like the porsches seem to move around alot more and got the back out of shape quite easy and the 360 seems more stable and has abit more BHP so I thought of going for it for the race. Are there usually many people at the events???Do AI cars also race???

I'll try and make it in in the 350Z if I get out of the Comet race on time and I'm not completely knackered.

No there are no AI cars racing - purely humans (apart from the aliens  ;))

We usually get a full grid for the NGT races, but I Know this race wont be fully attended as we dont all have our copies of GTR2 yet.

Cheers

If you are not knackered after that race, you'll be called in, as you didn't drive fast enough then :P

Post by: popabawa on September 22, 2006, 08:08:11 AM +0100
For reference, in GTR, a sub 1:33 here in the GT3 was pretty quick.

I suspect that the RSR will be 1-2 sec faster as Don suggested. There's probably another 1-2 sec to come out of the time due to the improved grip levels (I thik that's what we were seeing from the demo :-\).

So, I think a sub 1:30 isn't out of the question for a quick driver.

That sounds just about right. In GTR the Porsche showed to be faster, earlier. The 360 has to be driven right on the edge to beat the Porsches.
What I found was that the Porsche locks the fronts easier, and the 360 the rears, so that could explain the balanceissues under braking. Just my point of view, no facts.

what times you running??

I did some quick laps in the Porsche RSR 2004, and 1:30's are possible. Can't really tell as I don't have a setup/tracl combo, so probably faster than that.

Title: Re: GTR2 Fun Race at Donington GP 2004
Post by: Dave 'Gizmo' Gymer on September 22, 2006, 10:17:38 PM +0100
I've done about 15 laps in the 350Z getting me down to 1:35.9 on a very poor feeling setup. So far my attempts to remove the corner entry understeer have simply resulted in a tendency towards snap oversteer in the medium speed corners, but I haven't looked at the data in the MoTeC so I''m hoping that will give me some clues.

I have noticed that power oversteer feels a lot like it does in GT4 - ie. it gives you absolutely ages to correct it before it will loop. That doesn't feel right at all but it might still be an artefact of the setup. It will snap sideways very quickly over tall curbs though which seems more realistic.

Title: Re: GTR2 Fun Race at Donington GP 2004
Post by: OSiriS on September 22, 2006, 10:30:08 PM +0100
I'm finding setup changes are having a huge impact on how comfortable the cars are to drive around the track. Yesterday I got an RSR to 1.35 before having a go of a F360 GTC which I managed to get down to 1.33 pretty quickly after a few setup changes. I came back to the RSR today since although "slower" felt more comfortable to drive and managed to out-pace my F360 ghost over most of the track only losing time in the last 3 corners. I made some more setup changes and found 2 seconds in those corners to equal the 1.33. If I can get some time to put some proper practice in hopefully I'll see those times tumble further.

Title: Re: GTR2 Fun Race at Donington GP 2004
Post by: Jeffrey on September 22, 2006, 11:02:30 PM +0100
After finding a decent setup, I did a 1:29.355 with the 2004 Porsche RSR.

The time trial and hot lap can be downloaded here (http://w11.easy-share.com/639790.html)

I love this track, and I like the Porsche in GTR2. I hated it in GTR, but it feels much more safe in the 2nd version. Hope I can make it monday.

Only changed rpm limit, gear ratio, fuel level, the basics not into the prof. stuff yet.

Down to 1:33.6 in the 350Z but I think the brakes are overheating (it's in qually trim with all the vents closed). Unfortunately the MoTeC log doesn't include brake temps. :(

Yeah I had a look at his stats and he seems to know what he´s doin.I just don´t understand most of the setup stuff so I leave most of it how it is,understanding that can make alot of diference by the looks.

Title: Re: GTR2 Fun Race at Donington GP 2004
Post by: OSiriS on September 23, 2006, 11:36:05 AM +0100
I think the most important thing is understanding how you like a care to handle, compare that with how your car is handling, then find out what changes need to be made to fix it. If I have problem corners I look to see if a setup change ot technique change can improve it for me.

Had some practise last night. Found the 911 a complete nightmare to drive, I guess I'm too used to front engined GT cars like the F550 & Lister. The F360 was a bit better, but I kept losing the back under braking. Got both cars into the mid 1:32s, but think I'll struggle to stay on track for 20 minutes.

Any of you guys finding your steering is very light in GTR2?  I had a quick go earlier and the car felt really twitchy and nervous and any steering input seemed over exaggerated  :(

Do you guys race with full or high FF ?  I cant seem to find a happy medium. If it put FF to medium 100% its too light, but if i change it to high or Full, no matter what percentage strength i put it at, it still feels way too heavy to turn and race with.  ???

Only managed a crap 1:33.4 in the RSR so far  :-[...i was 1 sec faster in GTR  :o

You don't have speed-sensitive steering turned on by any chance Mark?

Getting on better with the F360 now. Down to 1:31.8, which I think is a good time for a non-alien.

Very enjoyable race, aside from the formation lap when someone who shouldn't have been behind me took my rearwing off.....

Still, never mind that was my first GTR2 race and it was very enjoyable. I was able to concentrate on pushing as hard as I could without having to hold back slightly as I used to have to in GTR.

Mr Merlin (sorry can't rember which Fish your named after) - I had some good fun hunting you down, was sorry to see I got passed by you spinning off. Keep it up  :)

Nice race guys 8) Tough work letting it all hang out with those car.
Me and Jamera had a few clean moves on each other and it's nice having that extra bit of grip to give you the confidence to go for it ;D
Thoroughly enjoyed it. whens the next one?

Sorry about the bump on the formation lap Don. Silly mistake on my part, if I'd moved to your left I'd have seen the concertina at the last corner. We also had a driver who hadn't read the start procedure.

I couldn't get anywhere near my offline PB of 1:31.8, think it must have been a flukey run through the chicane or something. Couldn't hook up a decent lap in qualifying, but went faster in the race. Took soft tyres and they seemed to last OK for 20 minutes. There were several of us with very close lap times, but I lost the pack when I stuck the car in 1st by mistake at the chicane, and spun out. Picked up a couple of places near the end when others went off to give me an undeserved 4th.

Can we do GTs at Zhuhai again, I was better at that.  ;)

Thanks for the race guys.  I'm new to the GTR series and that was my first real online race.  Although I was off the pace I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do.  :)

Would anyone like to send me their car setup?  Surely those fast times can't be all down to driver skill  :P

Cheers,
Darren

Luke, what internet connection have you got? Not dial up? Hopefully broadband/cable and you should choose 'ISDN' for internet connection in game lobby. Country makes no difference as we have racers from spain, Portugal and Croatia.

Superb fun in that race, you really feel like you have to drive on the absolute edge and the extra grip gives you the confidence to run side by side into the corners. Had a great battle with Pablo and Edam for lap after lap, excellent fun duelling my Porker against the two Ferraris.  8)
Was quite pleased to finish 3rd after fending off those two for 90% of the race. The only problem with battling them was it allowed Pops to scamper off and get a well deserved 2nd....was hoping to give you a run for your money Popa  ;D

Madd seems to have mastered the Fezza getting Pole and leading the race from start to finish...nice.  8)

Dyno..what car was you in?...if Porsche, i'll be happy to email you my setup.

Does anyone know the forum name of DMN? I can't import the race result without knowing who they are.

I uploaded my replay for Madd-RIP's benefit, and I see Aagramn got there first - bit like the race result really ;)

Anyway, it's here: http://edam.accelerator.org/Donington%20Park%20GP_060925_2110.Vcr

...but I lost the pack when I stuck the car in 1st by mistake at the chicane, and spun out.

I actually thought I'd caused that, and even apologised! (Then I remembered the rules, oops ??? ) I goofed up the chicane as well avoiding Mr. Jonzo, and then saw you spinning behind me. Put 2 + 2 together ;)

Good race with Mark Jonzo and Pablo - was nip and tuck all the way.. Sorry to Pablo for a bit of a tap at the Melbourne hairpin - you slowed down a little extra in the middle of the turn and caught me out :( Great race otherwise - very intense  :D

I'm happy to report the cars have wheels.

Looks like Luke had bad warp at the start, which explains why he was passing cars on the formation lap. On the replay he spins after being hit by an invisible car.

I just watched the replay, and one nice feature is the pitlimiter light that blinks when it's turned on. That makes it easier to see if someone has it engaged, but also for the mods.

I use GTR1 setups, and the worked great, hence the 1:29 I did.
And what Aagram said, Zhuhai and GT's. by that time I should have GTR2 as well (online).

Edit: The GTR Reporter for the lapcharts, does not work with GTR2.

I noticed that as we exited the pits during qualifying. Very neat. 8) I've now worked out why the pit limiter is automatic on entry to and exit from the pit lane but not out of the garage. The only way to exit your garage at Dono with 10 degrees of steering lock is sideways with the rears lit up!

Edit: The GTR Reporter for the lapcharts, does not work with GTR2.

I bet if you edited the Game and Version strings in the header you could fool it into working... The format appears to be identical bar the lack of a Penalty string.

That was FUN!

I was slightly concerned that I'd not find GTR2 as engaging as I'd like due to overfamiliarity with GTR1 but even on a familiar track with a semi-familiar car that felt really fresh and fun.

One thing for sure is that 'Time Trials' are a different kettle of proverbials than proper qualifying, having the tyres up to temp. in the Time Trials is a big advantage. I was easily into the 1:31's in the Time Trials but couldn't get below 1:32.5 in qualifying last night.

I Qualified in 2nd and I was looking forward to battling Mark in 3rd but I think he got a bit close through the chicane on lap 1 which forced him to take evasive action and I was pretty much on my own for the rest of the race vainly chasing Madd's disappearing 360.

Pretty pleased with 2nd, nice to get a podium before all the aliens turn up ;D

Great drive by Madd for the win :)

Thank heaven for that.

Was there anyone in the race with a distant geographical location from the server in the UK, or anyone showing bad ping times?

I'm finding that in the time trials there is alot to keep me pushing. Even with the racing line off and the ghost car invisible for 10 metres around me there is the counter in the top left telling me exactly how far ahead or behind I am. Without that I tend to take a few laps longer to accelerate earlier out of the corners even with the tires up to temp. I find it better practice to run around the open practice rather than the time trial as I won;t have any time trial helpers pushing me to go faster in qualifying or a race, but it would be nice to be able to convert my fastest hot-laps to time trial ghosts for when i give it a go.

Ha, Dave i saw your flamboyant exit from your pit garage as i cruised down the pitlane...looked very flash !  ;D

Ah Luke, sorry to hear you were only on dial up  :'(  hope to see you again soon when your broadband arrives.

Really enjoyed the racing, it was very intense. Have found both of the fun races quite physically & mentally demanding so far...wonder why  ??? Heaven knows what an endurance event will feel like ? :o

Pops, agree on the time trial / qually prognosis...at one point when i couldnt match the top 5 times i was hoping for your ghost car to appear in front for me to chase down and improve my time  ;D
Luckily i found some extra pace

I wouldn't say that, its my First 'GTR' race online and the cars are waaay different from GTL....they have grip for a start! And I am 3 seconds of Ruskus' time after all!

But as a starting point I was well happy with my setup (although it can be a little lairy at times!) and had to push like mad to stay in front of Pops, and as you say, its nice to see what the podium looks like!!!

Hopefully I'll be able to take part in many races but the times may put the damper on it.

Post by: popabawa on September 26, 2006, 03:01:22 PM +0100
I think I agree with you Madd, these cars have got a bit more in 'em (as Ruskus so ably demonstrates!) we just haven't quite the hang of them fully yet..

However, that was a really good drive Madd, I was pushing as hard as I dared for the first 15 mins or so but wasn't really getting anywhere, you were pulling out 0.5s a lap at least, I then made a couple of stupid mistakes (though nothing too serious) which gave you another few seconds and at that point I eased off a bit to make sure I beat Jonzo
