Starting Wednesday 16th September
(This has changed from the 9th due to server issues)

Following on from the very popular series we ran with these back in series 4 I'm dusting off the RSR's.

All races will be 30 minutes plus 1 lap to watch the original series - while I won't be enforcing the single hot lap for Qualifying I will be running very short qualifying sessions. These will vary in length depending on the circuit but don't expect to get more than 2 flying laps in, death or glory time ;)

Spa will be a 1 hour special event.

As per most of my events custom skins are welcome/encouraged.

Please post your interest and car number/skin choice below:

Me                   : Meznarie #34
Goldtop             : 12_carrera_red     (#54 - thanks Kunos)
Mark Jonzo        : Kremer_Vaillant

Drop it into your assetto corsa folder - It shouldn't over-write anything unless you already have any of the skins included.

Hi FMG,

Could you provide a link to the cars so that we can try them out

 :tt1:

Of course I'm in ! Yet I still don't have a decent setup for her.
When will you post the track links plz ?

@SRW : I guess it's just the Kunos stock classic 911 that you get in one of the Porsche DLCs.  ::)

Stock Kunos 911 3.0 RSR's - no reason to mess about with questionable add-ons when these are available :thumbup1:

When will you post the track links plz ?

I'll sort the track links later today (plus a fun race for Weds) - Only odd part is that the version of Oulton we've used previously is missing (ACTrackReboot version).
The only place hosting the last version is SRO currently so I've probably have to chuck it onto dropbox temporaily for this event to save people going through SRO's highly awkward registration process.
That or we'll have to use the other version on RD, but that doesn't look as good...

Spa is obviously Kunos stock.

I tried the RD version yesterday evening and it's terrible, quite undrivable..

I tried to install High Plains but some files are asked to be replaced in "system" folder. I'm never comfortable with that, I have no idea what those original files are supposed to do.  :-[
So I skipped them for the moment.

That's the Assetto System folder and the folder used by the shaders patch.
Please make sure the track loads if you aren't doing this - if it loads then you shouldn't have any issues joining the server.

I'd actually recommend the shaders patch even if you have a slower PC - before upgrading mine I installed it and was actually able to improve my frame rates after having a play in the settings  :)

Now I have a new gaming PC it looks fantastic once you turn it all on!

Thank you for your answer Tim.

That's the Assetto System folder and the folder used by the shaders patch.

Okay, but when overwriting those files, what does this action lead to ?

Please make sure the track loads if you aren't doing this - if it loads then you shouldn't have any issues joining the server.

What I was planning to do and yes it works.  :)

Now I have a new gaming PC it looks fantastic once you turn it all on!

I have a quite good PC I think (Asus Strix Z270F Gaming ; Intel i7-7700K@stock-speed ; Be-Quiet Dark Rock 4 ; G. Skill 2x8 = 16Go PC 19200 Ripjaws ; PNY RTX 2060 Super ; Samsung SSD 850 EVO) yet AC keeps occuring some more or less big stutter about twice an hour since a few years, I never really got why..  :-\ That's the very point of all the mods installed which required to overwrite some stock Kunos files. I don't like it, and suspect it could be related to those problems.
I think I will have to re-install AC from scratch soon (and I will pass on plenty of very questionable mods then).

Title: Re: Porsche RSR Challenge
Post by: FullMetalGasket on August 30, 2020, 09:40:00 AM +0100
I went from an i7-4790k with 16Gb of DDR3 to a new Ryzen 7 3700X with 32Gb of 3200Mhz DDR4 ram.

I used to get very bad stutters in AC with lots of cars around (Online or AI) which only got worse on detailed mod tracks - The problem for me was the i7 was utterly maxed out in these situations and was dropping physics and frames every couple of seconds as a result. On the really detailed tracks like Deutchlandring this was bad enough that my G25 would loose calibration as it's drivers were missing some of the data during fast wheel movements.

I also have a sneaky suspicion that the DDR3 RAM was an issue, it was running a fairly fast stock XMP but was still only half the bandwidth of my new DDR4 - and the GFX card was running DDR4 itself so that probably caused some problems within the system.

My options were to ditch VR (that's where a big chunk of the processing power went) or upgrade, as I can't drive for toffee anymore in super-flat-vision I upgraded and all my problems are solved, I'm even running ACC in VR now at pretty much max details despite only having a 1070GTX..

Back up your AC folder and give content manager/shaders patch a go. It'll take a while to go through the options and setup but should give a performance boost  :)
It also makes it posible to run pretty much all new cars and tracks as many authors are only making stuff that runs with the shaders patch now.

I see what you mean, but my cpu keeps running at 50% or lower almost all the time.
Yes I need to get this ACManager working one of these days, with all the Sol stuff and shaders etc.. Will need a few hours install and setting up for sure though..

So no idea about what those overwritten files can change for the rest of the game ?

Nothing I ever noticed - there are some cars/tracks that required you to over-write some of the stock files, I think the 1st I know for sure was the Formula Ford from about 2 or 3 years ago. It never caused any issues  :)

If you have HDD space just backup the entire AC steam folder and then try it. Dead easy to go back if it doesn't work.

Yup of course I thought about a back up but as I'm about to all re-install.. (after a profile back up thought of course !)

By the way, a big shame that we Steam users can't have different installs of this title.. I would have done one stock, and one with mods..

I've found out that the reason I can't find the 'good' version of Oulton park is that it's actually an iRacing rip and this is why it's been pulled off of all the legit sites  ::)

So as we can't use that here Round 1 will now be moved about 50 miles West to Anglesey :)

Much better views though on a nice day ;)

Hi Tim, wouldn't it be worth it to make a bit of advertising on SRO ?

Thats weird, I somehow understand that if theres another AC event at same time but there isn't....  ???
EDIT: If I remember right, I advertise some events there without any problems or maybe it was otherway around...

Title: Re: Porsche RSR Challenge
Post by: FullMetalGasket on September 02, 2020, 05:10:39 PM +0100
Mark, Myself and others have advertised stuff here. When I asked to do the same there I was asked not to.
Seems daft as we never run the same stuff so aren't competing against each other even, but there you go.

Title: Re: Porsche RSR Challenge
Post by: IbnSolmyr on September 02, 2020, 05:57:07 PM +0100
Yes that's strange, and I also kinda remember having advertised there yet.. Or maybe it was here for theirs ?  ;D

Still as Kimi said, as long as the events don't compete each other, it's sad that we can't maximize our chances to get a nicer grid (if composed of respectful drivers ofc).

As a heads up - We have had some server issues over the last week and have moved to a nice shiny new one today as a result thanks to Pete :notworthy:

I've been on and tested it and all seems good, but I thought it better to run a test race next week instead of round 1 given that
A - the server is untested.
B - It should have been running Anglesey and the 911's since Wednesday but I couldn't get on there to do it.

As compensation we'll be racing at Anglesey in the Lotus Type 25's for half an hour instead, they seem to be good fun there and it will help non-UK track goers learn their way around the place :)

30mn is a nice quick format. Couldn't we consider a 2nd race for example in full reverse grid ?  :P

These Lotus are lovely, maybe a future series ?  ::)

No chance of a reverse grid after the Easters :P

As for the Lotus'. I'm game, and we've even had a very good season with them in the past - But I was actually considering the GPL67's for a season at some point  :)

GPL67's sound even better indeed!  ;D

I tried the next weeks combo yesterday evening. And altough we have had a series in these cars before, I was having a blast with the new to me VR experience in this car.
Great car on a 2D screen, but the cockpit detail is very impressive in VR too. Combined with the nice sounds and nice physics I kept running laps on my own until past midnight. 8)

I was traumatized by the reverse grids, from the first time I tried it (with the TCR).

The Championship with the Lotus 25 was really good. the GPL 67 is a great mod, beautiful and we have already raced on SRO. Between the two, my vote goes to '67.

That's the champ that Tim has reported me somewhere  ::).

I guess I don't run AC since the last GPL champ, but will do some laps later, just to see if I'm still able to drive some real cars without that nasty 21 st century technology :P

However, I don't think I'll be able to join every race of the champ, but I'll try to join as many race as possible. I'll race as a "wild card" from time to time if you don't mind.

Should be ok for Weds, I'll post my choice later, or tomorrow.

See ya chaps

Edit: I've read some earlier posts and I don't want to bother Tim for the preparation of the skin Pack, so any free skin will be fine for me Tim. Feel free to make that choice for me ;)

The weathers been rather nice here recently - so I *might* have been in my garden drinking beer with the dog (she's not allowed beer though, so I have to drink extra for her).
As a result although I've populated a folder with the add-on skins I haven't made the pack yet, so if you can pick something by 5pm UK time tomorrow I can add it easy  :)

Welcome Lorenzo also, looks like you're ok from my list on page 1, I'll just have to figure out which car that is according to Kunos!

I'll go with the blue n°99 Kunos stock. With the hope that Good Year tires will be the best choice I can do as I haven't tried any other socks  ::)

I will take the Kremer_Vaillant skin :)

Mark, while I do have this on my PC I don't think it's a standard car - do you have a link?
I think this might be the one you drove last time?

Sorry i missed this post. I am not in front of my home pc at moment but will look this evening. I might actually take the lovely Harley Davidson skin instead if its in the skin pack. (White car, blue bumpers and red stripes up the bonnet)

It won't be as you haven't posted it here Mark, you got the Kremer as I found it in my skins directory from last time :P

Can you assign me any free skin?

Hi Toni,
I'll need your GUID in order to assign you a skin.
I'm preparing the server files now - hopefully the server will assign you an un-used skin and I'll just assign that to you on a permanent basis for future races :)
If not I'll sort something from the 2nd race onwards

Hi there,
I'm assuming this is running weekly but let me know if I'm wrong. I can't see the series calendar anywhere. Sorry if it is obvious. Thanks.

Jos

Sorry Jos. It's weekly, I just haven't had a chance to input the other rounds yet!
I should fix the race import and next week's announcement tonight - with the remaining events tomorrow

Thanks Tim.
I've had a first go at Pau and, wow! What a track. Beautiful and one I'm sure you will make the most of your drifting technique... You are certainly looking for lapping a few of us this time  >:D :tank:
