Title: UKAC Season 16 Season 16 RSR Challenge - High Plains - Oct 7

Welcome to round 4 of the Porsche RSR Challenge - This week we return to the normal 30 minute sprint race at the recently released High Plains Raceway.
This is a technical and hilly circuit near Denver, Colorado.
The author recommends having shaders patch and grass turned on - it will apparently look pretty bad without.

This season is loosely based on our first outing in these cars several years ago, so expect very short qualifying sessions.
The 1st series featured single lap qualifying which was a bit awkward to monitor, so I will be reducing the qualifying sessions to only allow time for 2 flying laps.
So make sure you have space around you and get a good 'banker' in before you go nuts ;)

Password: see above

Practice: 19:30 (53 mins)
Qual: 20:23 (7 mins)
Race: 20:30  (30 mins + 1 lap)

Cars allowed:
1972 Porsche RSR
(Kunos Porsche pack #1 add-on)

Skin pack available here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vp9qetzvztkfnk0/RSR%20Skinpack.zip?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/vp9qetzvztkfnk0/RSR%20Skinpack.zip?dl=0)
Drop it into your assetto corsa folder - It shouldn't over-write anything unless you already have any of the skins included.

Track: High Plains Raceway
Download link: https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/high-plains-raceway.34284/ (https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/high-plains-raceway.34284/)
This track comes with non-existant cameras! - so I've fixed them and you can download them here:

Drop the contents of the RAR file into your "Your-Steam-Directory\assettocorsa\content\tracks\gb_high_plains_raceway\full\data"
It will ask you to over-write the files already in there - say yes to all.
Gutbomb has given me permission to modify and share camera files for this (and all his tracks for that matter, I'll be sorting Meadowdale out for the DRM event in 2 weeks time also) - I'll upload a non-over-writing version to RaceDepartment at some point for if/when he updates his own files - for now this will give you a tidier file structure.

Practice server should be up and running - Please also take the time to download and install my fixed track cameras (post above), otherwise you'll mostly be watching the in-field buildings on your replays ;)

Tiiiiiiiim, what's wrong with you ?!

Your track picks mate...  ;D This one is full of blind corners, with almost no landmarks, in the hills and slopes. Delightful but heh !!
Also there are some buggy little joins between some kerbs and the tarmac, that could be less funny.  ::)

Had a quick look last night, it’s similar to Willow Springs but not as flowing. Not so keen on this with its blind tight corners but sure it’ll feel better with more familiarity.

It's a great track once you learn it - and just as featureless in real life so no complaining on that front  :P

It's also filled with overtaking opportunities and corners that suit the RSR nicely, and of course nasty mean corners too - but you don't drive an RSR if you want easy ;)

Will jump even this one probably. I'll have a work meeting late on Weds evening and no time at all to learn a new circuit.

Sorry about that. Have fun

Tricky track to learn. Bit of a rollercoaster!

hmm, i'm going to be a tail end charlie tonight me-thinks. Have only run about 10 laps and most of them were spent falling off at different corners trying to learn the layout. Now know which way most corners go but havent spent any time learning how to take them quicker.  :( Also got brand new pedals installed today so my muscle memory will be all over the shop. :P

Onwards and upwards  ;D

I remember this track back from GTL days, Fiat 128 was good fun then. However, 911 is too annoying to drive here so theres no point to even show up.  :balloon:

Too bad for Jos that T1 incident,  :'( looks like you hadn't any brake pedal efficiency Lorenzo, watching the replay. Damn hardware when it goes fool..

Great race, but Tim lied to us as I said right after the race, as he didn't make any mistake really, only few little ones, and at a high pace. Uncatchable. Add to that he didn't accept I could hold the fastest lap and beat it by 5 hundredths ! Congrats !!

I more and more hate this qualif format  ;D Completely missed mine again but appearently wasn't alone, as I grabbed a P2 thanks to a quite crappy "flying" lap, was very surprised, and even more that it held over the rest of the session time.

Very happy with my race and consistancy.

Well that went not to great. Had a game crash during qually so had to start at the back. T1 went well for me this time! Only to got clipped by someone a few corners later. Tried to work my way up again and I had GT's car in my sights when my pc decided to give me a blue screen. Someting to do with the GPU it seems. Hopefully i fixed it now and that it is not a dying videocard..
Went on to drive for an hour on the SRO server and that went well, so I hope next week some normal racing again.

Anyone got a replay file for me of the race?

cant say i enjoyed that too much last night. A complete contrast to the Spa event. The track itself is okay but it looked crap in my Rift S and i just didnt gel with it. :-\
Had a better qually than expected position wise but think i was just fastest of the slower guys.

Got a great start (new pedals work well!) and dared to go up the inside of Fabri on the right and a white car on the left. But as we entered T1 the white car just suddenly jerked sideways into the car on the right and as they both flew off right, i was so startled that i followed them off, though only running a little wide to continue on. Wily old Fabri must have had time to duck back under the mess (i hope!) as was fearful i would take him with me in the confusion.

Anyway, jogged on for quite a while, had a brief chase by Jos early in the race but he was quicker than me so got past with relative ease (unlike last week!) and i soon had a healthy gap over GT following whilst keeping visuals on the 3 guys ahead duking it out, until i ran wide and they pulled a gap. Jos must have fallen off later on so i found myself in 4th  :o Stayed that way until 2 laps from the end and a safe 4sec gap over Jos, when i absent mindedly left my braking too late at the end of the long straight, tried to correct and got a tank slapper spin into the sand.  :'( such an unnecessary error from a bit of lonely boredom, and Jos romped by and i finished 5th  :taz:

Really enjoyed that again, apart from the last 3 corners which I just could not get right all evening, and made two separate errors there which cost me..

Started well for once however; small contact with Fabri at T1 (sorry) but hopefully nothing serious, and ended up P3, fighting with Fabri and later a recovering Jos. Good fun, until I made my first error, getting into a tank-slapper at the last corner. Bumbled along the grass down the s/f straight, losing places to Fabri and Jos and re-joining behind them. This would have been fine, but unfortunately when I crossed the s/f line I was still on the grass and I think this is where I lost a lap - I guess the timing line ends at the track edge and does not extend beyond it. Made another error at the penultimate corner some laps later and went off a long way into the wilds, and again re-joined just behind Jos, which led to a nice battle until the end.

Congrats Tim and podium, looking forward to the next one.

If I remember correctly Frex was the only person to magically 'loose' a lap?
I'll have to fast forward through his race for fairness sake before reinstating him where he should be - do I need to check anyone else at the same time?

As for the track, I loved it once I'd remembered that these porsches have about lot less grip than the ones from the previous night on ACC...

Results will be up once I've figured out how to bodge them into shape...

I practised a few laps earlier in the week, car felt ok after a few tweaks but turning up last night it was completely different constantly fighting both ends, with significant lack of grip in comparison. What few timed laps I did get in was still around 2 secs off what I did earlier in the week.

Not much fun to seeing everyone disappearing off.

Are the settings on the server different compared to the race settings?

No - Literally the only difference between the 2 are session lengths and password....
I think the track has a fixed grip setting too so shouldn't even be that

I think it's mostly a question of how much you attack : particularly on this very technical track, you can lose much time and also make some mistakes of course by over-attacking, here more than at other places.
This then can give you the feeling that there is less grip, I experienced it too.

About the replay you guys can have one here : http://www.mediafire.com/file/drw6d7a50mx14rr/AC_071020-221841_R_ks_porsche_911_carrera_rsr_gb_high_plains_raceway_full/file

Mixed fortune in yesterday's race at High Plains Raceway with the 911 RSR.
It didn't start well due to Lorenzo's malfunctioning peripheral (Don't worry Lorenzo, this is the sort of online race incident that happens from time to time). This unfortunately finished his race and almost mine. Happy with the prompt recovery and, although I landed last, it gave me a great opportunity to climb my way back to fight for 3rd place... I think I had a good chance of unsettling Fabri (the hesitation at the turn 8 hairpin was possibly proof of it) but, instead, the impatience on the attack (lesson for the future) delivered the inevitable punishment by the unforgiving 911 RSR... That error settled the race in 5th position behind Mark J (without his usual pace due to lack of practice on this track!). I think I had a chance to catch him up, was reducing the gap from 6secs to 4secs and even down to 2.7secs at one point... Then, due to tiredness or lack of concentration in general, I made a few smaller mistakes that saw Mark's gap growing again and I settled to wait for a potential mistake on his side to recover the 4th position... And goddess fortune delivered (for me, not for Mark  ;) )
Congratulation to Maxime for a great race to 2nd although, as he says, the uncacheable Tim makes it very difficult for us, mere mortals, to even conceive getting close to 1st position (I suggest 5 tons ballast should be added to his 911 car... although even with this he would find a way of drifting the car to win the race!!). Congrats to the podium and looking forward to next week's race at Thomson Road (I need to learn this track!).
Enjoy!

I did bad Qual: a mistake at first lap, during the second lap I had a bit of traffic and at the last attempt I spun. So I started from the 5th pos.

My start was quite good, Mark did better and tryed to pass before T1. I think mostly of pilots around me were a bit long at this braking. I braked a bit early, instead, to avoid the mess; I came out with only a few scratches on the front bumper. No problem, Frex.

I fought for 2 turns with Mark and then I take the Frex's tail. I did a long battle of nerves with him and Jos for several laps. They did some mistakes, so I found myself firmly in 3rd position. Alone, with no one for 10 seconds ahead and the same back, I enjoyed the landscape until the end of the race.

Congratulations to Tim and Maxime for the great pace!
Nice video Jos.

Quite enjoyed this one. Strategy was to take it steady and not fall off which needed all my concentration with so many blind corner entries and so few landmarks. Managed ok until the yellow fuel warning popped up causing me to have a couple of scrappy laps just thinking about it  :D

Had a quick look at next week's track and not looking forward to it  ::) There's one line through that uphill kink on the fast straight and I have to lift to stop getting airborne. Pigs will fly!

OK, I didn't quite re-write the .json properly - so the lap timing and final gaps are wonky, but the results and points are at least correct!

Hopefully I won't have to improve my coding skills any further  :surrender:
