911 'natch  ;)

which track is the sprint?...its not that horrible little twisty uphill cut through is it? Hope not  :(   The 76'ers are better on the bigger/longer tracks.

The Sprint track is a decent one, no silly corners. Mullenbach is the really short layout.

I think the diaries free next week, in which case I should be there.  The Pant-tearer would probably be my choice, but I'm very out of practice in the 76'ers, so I'll try and run a few laps and see what happens.

Hello All!

Room for another one in Thursday's race?

Quick question - what is the start procedure of the GTL races? I've heard about formation laps and rolling starts? Is this the way you start, or is it the normal standing start?

Thanks!

The more the merrier! Not sure how the start procedure has disappeared from the announcement (I blame Shark :P) but it's a rolling start using the pit limiter as described in the rules.

It was never there to disappear. Previously we assumed people actually read the rules before racing, but now more and more of the rules seem to be creeping into each and every race announcements. Sounds like very poor object orientated programming to me.  ;)

Maybe we could try a few standing starts now there are less (and more consistent) drivers ?  I thought Brands would have been great with a standing start and the slower cars.

I've not had any problems with the standing starts I've had here - I'd certainly be up for it.

I suspect Brands would've been a nightmare with Falcons mixed in amongst the Alfas and Cortinas. :o

I'd be willing to give standing starts a go, but to be honest, the races that i have entered in the past that have started this way, mainly begun and ended in organised chaos - cars veering off to the left/right multiple pile ups and all sorts of crazy stuff.

But this WAS on public servers...

Great racing again, especially by bill for the first 5 laps, really defensive and had to make me think about how to get past, well done.

Didn't do a quali lap incase i spin again on the warmup lap (which i did ;D).

Quality race,    Had some graet battles with Madd, Simon and Pero.......First 6 or 7 laps was top draw ,After getying past Madd ( not sure if you let me through mate  but you shouldnt have as i think it broke your concentration) Simon was on my case and i was making a few mistakes was sorry to see you spin. Pero then passed me coming out of the chicane as we were overtaking a backmarker ......only got close enough to pass once and nearly made contact .I think 0.5 secs come up on the pit board about 10 times!!
Great race!.. Grats to podium.

Provisional results  (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?ind=lm2&event=223)and replay  (http://ukgtl.simracing.org.uk/N%FCrburgring%20Sprint_061116_2053.zip)available.

What a fabulous race. 76 cars are definately the most fun for me and had a great time in the Pantera. Was so close between the top 5. First part of race we were all so close together and then Madd-Ripp spun and I moved up to second. Slowly started pushing Dan and when it got to be time to overtake, had a few attempts at it and this was slowing us both down allowing Pero to close the small gap back up and make it a ding dong 3 way battle. Trying to take the lead and keep someone else behind is very difficult and eventually my Italian beast got the better of me in one of the slow corners. That dropped me down to 5th. Then Madd-Ripp spun again and that gave me 4th and I started chasing Stu down as hard as I could. With a couple of laps to go I eventually caught him and managed to make my pass stick. Held him off to the end and a very hard fought 3rd place, I think one of my best finishes in GTL and certainly one of the best races.

Glad to see the turnout up a bit more. 17 is looking healthy again. ;D ;D

Thanks for the great and fair racing everyone and well done to Pero and Dan at at the top of the tree.

Excellent fun racing once again. Nice turn out too with a great spread of cars  8)

Had a bloody phone call right as qually was starting and had to take it. Sat there nervously watching the clock tick down until about 4 mins left and decided to try and put a lap in whilst still holding the phone to my ear ! :o as was worried i would get a DQ for not setting a time. Actually managed to get a 1:41 and 12th despite being one handed or crook necked for most of the lap
Virtually put the phone down on them as the race timer got down to 8 seconds or so ;D

Had great early battles from the start, especially an excellent close duel with Ossie in another 911 and one or two others in the mix.
Car felt great and i was looking for a top 5 finish. Then disaster struck, got very tight on Oss into the final corner, stabbed the brake a tad to avoid hitting his rear end and the nose turned in too tight and struck that b*stard bollard on the apex :o :( Car span and i got front right suspension damage which meant the car pulled to the left and seriously crabbed under heavy braking.  :'(

Thought that was pretty much race over but decided to soldier on and see how driveable it was. It was a pig under brakes but i could still manage reasonable 1:41 or 1:42 times so plugged away and even took a couple of places back, including another good  little duel with Mag07 (again!) to eventually finish 9th.

Could have finished higher without the damage but great fun all the same !!  The driving standard has got even better and there was plenty of good clean fun racing 8)

Great race - I am glad that I opted for the BMW.
In qually I was doing very consistent times, but the laps themselves were very different and there were at least three occasions where I cocked it up in hte last section and lost 0,3 of a second, which would have gotten me pole. Anyhow - starting from fourth wasnt bad at all. At the start I got droped a bit - the BMW needs some time to warm up properly. After Madd, Dan and Simon started overtaking each other I was able to catch up. First one I passed was Madd, who spun. Next up was Simon who I was pressuring a bit when he and Dan started to get into great battles. Those battles alowed me to get right onto the back of Simon's Pantera (looking great BTW) and at one point he overcooked it and I was past. I was kinda expecting it to happen as I was seeing that he was quite aggressive with it and they were close together. The Pantera being the Monster it is soon bites when it is provoked - so I was able to see it happening right away and was able to avoid it.
Next up was Dan who has lost some pace after Simon spun. I was able to close, but he regained some pace again. I was hanging on and looking for an option and as soon as he got a bit held up out of the chicane I jumped alongside and was into first position. On the following straight I was happy to have turned my mirrors on as he misjudged the braking point and flew past me on the right side - just keeping on tarmac. I got a slight gap with that, but I guess he was able to get his concentration back as he started closing again. I was slightly in trouble as I couldnt really do much better laptimes with the BMW and am quite happy to have been able to defend on the last lap. A few more laps and I would have lost the lead - not only was Dan very quick and closing, but also my tires were slowly starting to go and I know that the Capri is better on tires.
Anyhow - great race and grats to remaining podium places  :)

Great race again lads.  Had a great battle  :fencing: with Assissino for a while there, he took me the i took him. Thought on the main straight i was going to punt him off when he overtook me and pulled right back in front of me and braked as i was still accelerating  but we survived. Also swapped places a few times with Mag07. Was surprised  :o at one point to see Madd just in front of me then as expected within a few seconds he was a spec in the distance. Span a few times due to lack of concentration and my two year old running around like an idiot. Wahey didn't get lapped for a change.  :jumpjoy:

KEEP GTL LADDER ALIVE

I've never felt so uncomfortable in the Capri before. :( Forgot to tweak the brake balance back before the race which meant it was hard to get the beast into the corners and that had a knock on effect all the way through the corner as I just couldn't get it sliding properly. That meant I never got the rears hot, so any attempt to powerslide it - usually how I drive the Capri, and why it's fun - usually resulted in the car wanting to snap spin the other way, as if the outside was hitting the bump stops. Got caught out numerous times, most embarressingly at the start of lap 3 with pribeiro putting me under pressure, getting turn 1 all wrong and having to wait for the entire field to pass before rejoining.

Passed Clarey and Oilseal not once but twice as a result, traded spins with Will for a while until eventually getting the better of him; with the leaders closing to lap me Ossie spun ahead; managed to get over the line and start a 23rd lap before the winner finished but couldn't make up anywhere near enough time to put him under pressure.

I think that might be the first time I've jumped in the Capri and not enjoyed it. I just don't understand why the car was such a handful tonight. ???

I didn't really know what to expect, as this was my first GTC76 race.
Managed to improve enough in quali to get 5th place. The capri felt OK, if a little 'safe' on setup.

Another first - a rolling start! Got dropped a bit on the line, but held position. Over the first few laps, the leading 4 slowly drew a few seconds gap, and I drew away from the 6th place man. I didn't want to push any more and risk overheating the tyres or making a mistake, so I just tried to turn out consistent laps. The battle in front meant that I could occasionally close up the gap, but never enough to challenge for a position.

I grabbed 4th place when Mad-RIP spun, and later grabbed 3rd when Simon spun. For a while, Mad-RIP was closing me down - lucky for me he ran wide where the track comes off the GP track, leaving me clear again.

With the two leaders in a close battle, I could really close up. For a while I even entertained the idea of trying for a pass on Dan, but this just caused me to lose a bit of ground.

Over the closing laps, Simon was closing slowly but steadily. I thought I could hold him off, but I made a couple of mistakes on laps 20 and 21 allowing him to close right up.

He got a good run on the back straight, and out-braked me into the chicane - nice pass!

I pushed a bit for the last two laps, to see if I could force another Pantera spin, but no luck. On the last bend I had to bale out wide, or I'd have rear-ended him - very close racing! :)

Great fun all round - I'll be back! (Stu Foster in the race) 8)

::) Well aren't I the moron, managed to find a gorgeous setup for the Capri stuck the baby on pole with a major pb then threw it all away not once but twice!!! DOH!   :o , first time I just got the back locked up  second time it was weird, car just hardly slowed down but no screeching of brakes.... almost as if they were cooked....muppet.  the.... er..... car was somewhat rearranged after that braking was certainly interesting as was any corner over 10 mph!!  :P understeer, oversteer mid corner, entry and exit !!! Most busy!
I just felt I was slowing you up Dan so thought discretion was the better part of valour in letting you by,must admit  mind was a bit elsewhere with the news Ossie gave me before the race about Visteon Swansea being sold.....sure enough it is going to be sold by Xmas apparently (21st December to be exact....how nice of them) :( , I just hope that we'll be alright. otherwise it'll be a very S****Y Xmas for about 600 of us  >:( .
I just seem to be unable to keep the cars on the blackstuff of late.....what a NOOB! I could have had good battles with the front runners otherwise. Maybe I should drive the Abarth!!

Good race last night, couldnt belive i kept passing Dave and he kept passing me due to our own errors, but i made too many in the end and paid the price.

I felt i had a half decent set-up, with some great grip in the corner exits , with the engine hanging over the rear in the 911.

I was running quite well, but a few unhelpful mistakes kept me out of finishing further up the field - got up to 10th, with 9th and 8th in my sights, but clipped the curb on when accelerating out of a couple of corners, which resulted in me facing the other way  :-\

Good race by all - the times were pretty close...

Have the next events been decided yet for GTL?

Anything planned for next week?

We've had the first three Thursdays in November already - it's a 'funny' month with 5 of the little devils. We'll most likely plan something for next Thursday but it won't be a championship race and it will probably be either a GTR2 event to test something out (eg. the super endurance long pit stop) or an rFactor event to try a new mod out.

Excellent work Ossie, enjoyed watching that  8)

You captured plenty of the action ! I was pleased you captured a couple of my overtaking moves  ;)...but also my hefty contact with that nastily placed armco bulkhead in the final turn before the s/f straight  :'( :-[ ...no wonder i had bent steering after that! :o
